Abstract
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant tumor originating from the epithelial cells of the nasopharynx with a unique geographic distribution, and is particularly prevalent in East and Southeast Asia. Due to its anatomical location, the surgery is difficult to access and the high sensitivity of nasopharyngeal cancer to radiotherapy (RT) makes it the main treatment modality. Radical radiotherapy is the first-line treatment for early-stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma and the cornerstone of multidisciplinary treatment for patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Nevertheless, radiotherapy interruption is inevitable as a consequence of unavoidable factors such as public holidays, machine malfunction, patient compliance, and adverse response to treatment, which in turn leads to a reduction in bioactivity and causes sublethal loss of tumor cells to repair. Unirradiated tumor cells are more likely to repopulate at or near their original fastest growth rate during this interval. If no measures are taken after the radiotherapy interruption, such as increasing the dose of radiotherapy and systemic therapy, the tumor is most likely to go uncontrolled and then progress. This review describes the effects of radiotherapy interruption on nasopharyngeal carcinoma, the mechanism of the effect, and explores the measures that can be taken in response to such interruption.

Abstract
The oral cavity is the place where the first symptoms of systemic diseases may appear. Leukemia is the malignancy of the hematopoietic system in which abnormal leukocytes are produced in the bone marrow and these cells spread to the peripheral blood. It is classified clinically on the basis of the duration and nature of the disease (acute or chronic), the type of cell involved (myeloid, lymphoid, or monocytes), and a rise in the number of abnormal cells in the blood. The study aimed to assess and compare the oral hygiene and periodontium status based on the indices in leukemic patients before and after one cycle of chemotherapy and whether the therapy had an impact on the change of these parameters. Dental indices used in clinical diagnostics were calculated: API (approximal plaque index), SBI (sulcus bleeding index), and CPI (community periodontal index). The research project was conducted at the Clinic of Hematooncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation of the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lublin. The target population consisted of 102 adults with leukemia who were over 18 years of age. The time since diagnosis of the disease ranged from 1 to 10 years. The data were evaluated in the Statistica 12 software with the respective tests. In the majority of patients, both before and after chemotherapy, improper oral hygiene and severe generalized periodontitis were confirmed. The cycle of chemotherapy that was used did not correlate with the change of patients' oral hygiene and periodontium state. Unsatisfactory oral hygiene and periodontal health has to be addressed with urgent dental treatment to avoid systemic complications in leukemic patients.

Abstract
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) predominantly consists of squamous cells and is the tumor with the highest incidence of the head and neck. Carnosic acid (CA), a natural monomer drug obtained from rosemary and salvia, shows various pharmacological effects, including of tumor development. This study aimed to assess for an effect of CA on the development of OSCC and the underlying mechanisms. In CAL27 and SCC9 cells, CA inhibited cell proliferation and migration, increased intracellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Ca2+, decreased the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and promoted apoptosis. In CAL27- and SCC9-xenotransplanted BALB/c nude mice, CA inhibited the tumor growth without affecting the body weight and tissue morphology. CA upregulated Bax, Bad, cleaved Caspase-3 and -9 levels, and the cleaved PARP1/PARP1 ratio but downregulated Bcl-2 in CA-treated OSCC cells and OSCC cells-xenotransplanted BALB/c nude mice. These results indicate that CA suppresses OSCC at least via the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway and offers this natural compound as a potential therapeutic against OSCC.

Dental and Periodontal Treatment Need after Dental Clearance Is Not Associated with the Outcome of Induction Therapy in Patients with Acute Leukemia: Results of a Retrospective Pilot Study. Abstract
This retrospective pilot study aimed to detect whether remaining dental/periodontal treatment need and periodontal inflammation after dental clearance would be associated with the initial therapy outcome of adult patients with acute leukemia undergoing induction chemotherapy. Different parameters were assessed from the patients' records: initial blood parameters, blood parameters during initial chemotherapy, leukemia/therapy related complaints, duration of fever, microbiological findings (blood and urine), as well as patients' survival. Dental treatment need was defined as the presence of at least one carious tooth; periodontal treatment need was determined by the presence of probing depth ≥3.5 mm in at least two sextants. To reflect periodontal inflammation, the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) was applied. Thirty-nine patients were included. A dental treatment need of 75% and periodontal treatment need of 76% as well as an average PISA of 153.18 ± 158.09 were found. Only two associations were detected: periodontal treatment need was associated with thrombocyte count after 7 days (p=0.03), and PISA was associated with erythrocyte count three days after induction of therapy (p=0.01). It can be concluded that remaining dental and periodontal treatment need as well as periodontal inflammation after dental clearance is not associated with the outcome of induction therapy in adult patients with acute leukemia.

Abstract
Objective to identify the frequency of fatigue and domains affected in patients with
head and neck cancer undergoing radiation therapy, at the beginning, middle
and end of treatment. Method longitudinal and prospective study of quasi-experimental design, involving
60 patients with head and neck cancer. It should be highlighted that this
article will address only the data of the Control Group. The dependent
variables were collected through interview, using the revised Piper Fatigue
Scale, which is a multidimensional instrument that assesses global,
behavioral, affective and sensory/psychological domains. Data analysis was
based on absolute and relative frequencies. Results there was a predominance of males, age group between 41-60 years, low level
of education and in regular use of alcohol and cigarettes. All domains in
the fatigue scale had their scores increased, presenting median values of
greater magnitude in Time 2 and Time 3, when compared to the Time 1 values,
indicating an increase in fatigue levels during radiation therapy. Conclusion fatigue increased in the course of the radiation therapy, having all domains
affected. Therefore, its evaluation throughout the treatment is important,
as fatigue is a common and debilitating symptom on cancer patients.
