Magnetic properties of exchange coupled SmCo5/FeCo composite particles synthesized by magnetic self-assembly

Study on the Microstructure and Magnetic Properties of Nd-Fe-B/Fe-Co Composite Nanowires

To solve the problem of the low coercivity of Nd-Fe-B-based nanowires impeding their application in magnetic storage media, highly ordered Nd-Fe-B/Fe-Co composite nanowires were fabricated in an anodic alumina template by means of the alternating electrochemical deposition method. In this paper, the effect of soft and hard magnetic phase compositing on the magnetic properties of Nd-Fe-B-based nanowires was investigated, and the coercivity improvement mechanism was demonstrated. The results show that after annealing at 600 °C for 2 h, Nd-Fe-B/Fe-Co nanowires crystallize into a multiphase structure containing a hard Nd2(Fe, Co)14B phase and soft NdB4, NdB6, Fe7Nd, and Fe7Co3 phases. It is characterized that the Nd2(Fe, Co)14B phase preferentially nucleates, followed by NdB4 + NdB6 + Fe7Nd, while Fe7Co3 has been formed in as-deposited nanowires. The existence of a Nd2(Fe, Co)14B phase with high anisotropy fields, the remanence enhancement effect produced by exchange coupling between hard-soft magnetic phases, and the pinning effect between different phases make the composite nanowires approximately exhibit single hard magnetic phase characteristics with coercivity and remanence ratio as high as 4203.25 Oe and 0.89. The results indicate that synthesizing Nd-Fe-B/Fe-Co exchange-coupled composite nanowires via alternating electrodeposition is an effective way to optimize the magnetic performance of Nd-Fe-B-based nanowires.

Reverse Magnetization Behavior Investigation of Mn-Al-C-(α-Fe) Nanocomposite Alloys with Different α-Fe Content Using First-Order Reversal Curves Analysis

The reverse magnetization behavior for bulk composite alloys containing Mn-Al-C and α-Fe nanoparticles (NPs) has been investigated by hysteresis loops, recoil, and first-order reversal curves (FORC) analysis. The effect of adding different percentages of α-Fe (5, 10, 15, and 20 wt. %) on the magnetic properties and demagnetization behavior of Mn-Al-C nanostructured bulk magnets was investigated. The fabricated nanocomposites were characterized by XRD and VSM for structural analysis and magnetic behavior investigations, respectively. The demagnetization curve of the sample Mn-Al-C-5wt. % α-Fe showed a single hard magnetic behavior and showed the highest increase in remanence magnetization compared to the sample without α-Fe, and therefore this combination was selected as the optimal composition for FORC analysis. Magnetic properties for Mn-Al-C-5 wt. % α-Fe nanocomposite were obtained as M_s = 75 emu/g, M_r = 46 emu/g, H_c = 3.3 kOe, and (BH)_max = 1.6 MGOe, indicating a much higher (BH)_max than the sample with no α-Fe. FORC analysis was performed to identify exchange coupling for the Mn-Al-C-0.05α-Fe nanocomposite sample. The results of this analysis showed the presence of two soft and hard ferromagnetic components. Further, it showed that the reverse magnetization process in the composite sample containing 5 wt. % α-Fe is the domain rotation model.

Exchange-Coupling Interaction in Zero- and One-Dimensional Sm2Co17/FeCo Core-Shell Nanomagnets

Rare-earth-based core-shell spring nanomagnets have been intensively studied in the permanent magnet industry. However, the inherent agglomeration characteristics of zero-dimensional (0-D) magnetic nanoparticles are an issue in practical fabrication of magnetic nanocomposites due to deterioration in exchange-coupling interactions, resulting in inferior magnetic performance. Here, with an aim to overcome the structural limitations, we report a new type of SmCo/FeCo core-shell nanomagnet with a well-dispersed one-dimensional (1-D) structure prepared by a combination of electrospinning and electroless plating processes. An FeCo layer with a tailored thickness on nanoscale SmCo was produced to achieve a sufficient exchange-coupling effect. The influence of electroless plating time on the microstructure of fibers was discussed, and comparisons were made as a function of the magnet shape. A 1-D SmCo/FeCo spring nanomagnet having a core diameter ranging from 150 to 200 nm and a shell thickness of 15-20 nm showed a potent exchange-coupling effect compared with its 0-D counterpart. This effectively reduced self-aggregation and further showed a remarkable enhancement in (BH)_max (above 45.7%). We think that this novel structure marks a new era in the exchange-spring magnet industry and may overcome the limitations of traditional core-shell nanomagnets.
