Abstract
The surging demand for eco-friendly nanomaterial synthesis has spurred the emergence of green approaches for synthesizing carbon dots (CDs). These methods utilized natural carbon sources, such as different kind of waste for CDs synthesis, underscoring their significance in waste management and circular economy initiatives. Furthermore, the properties of CDs can be tailored by their functionalization with different materials, enabling their versatile utilization in diverse scientific domains. In this regard, the current study delves into an in-depth review of recent advances in the green/sustainable fabrication of carbon dots nanocomposites (CDNCs) with metal/metal oxides and polymers within the timeframe of 2019-2023. It begins by categorizing different types of CDs, analyzing their associated nanocomposites with mechanistic insights. The primary focus is on green synthesis methods, particularly those that employ waste materials. Furthermore, we also discussed the applications of these CDs in both environmental and biological fields by covering areas such as catalysis, photocatalysis, heavy metal ion sensing, antimicrobial, and bioimaging with in-depth underlying mechanisms. At last, the review highlights the significant challenges with future directions. These include the pursuit of cost-effective green precursors, the advancement of streamlined one-step synthesis techniques, and their efficient utilization for diverse applications. Therefore, this review provides valuable insights for researchers seeking to enhance the functionality and sustainability of CDNCs by highlighting their potential to address environmental and biological challenges.

Abstract
Nanoparticles are used as fillers to improve the properties of biopolymers, and their particle size is an important parameter. This work aims to investigate the effect of particle size of isoreticular metal-organic framework-3 (IRMOF-3) on the mechanical, physical, and release properties of sodium alginate (SA)-based composite active film. In our study, IRMOF-3 with six different particle sizes was synthesized by introducing additives. IRMOF-3 loading with carvacrol (IRMOF-3/CA nanoparticles) was incorporated into the SA matrix to prepare the composite film. The characterization and testing results of films showed that the particle size of nanoparticles affected the physical morphology and chemical structure of the film. Especially smaller nanoparticles uniformly dispersed into the SA matrix more easily, forming a denser and more stable spatial network structure with SA, which could more significantly improve the tensile strength, water vapor barrier, and hydrophobic properties of the film (P < 0.05). In addition, the CA release rate from the active film could be significantly reduced by about 33.90 % even when the smallest particle size of the IRMOF-3/CA nanoparticles was added. Therefore, when IRMOF-3/CA is used as the nano-filler to develop SA-based active film, its particle size has a potential influence on the properties of the film.

Abstract
Recently, diversifying the material, method, and application in food packaging has been massively developed to find more environment-friendly materials. However, the mechanical and barrier properties of the bioplastics are major hurdles to expansion in commercial realization. The compositional variation with the inclusion of different fillers could resolve the lacking performance of the bioplastic. This review summarizes the various reinforcement fillers and their effect on bioplastic development. In this review, we first discussed the status of bioplastics and their definition, advantages, and limitations regarding their performance in the food packaging application. Further, the overview of different fillers and development methods has been discussed thoroughly. The application of reinforced bioplastic for food packaging and its effect on food quality and shelf life are highlighted. The environmental issues, health concerns, and future perspectives of the reinforced bioplastic are also discussed at the end of the manuscript. Adding different fillers into the bioplastic improves physical, mechanical, barrier, and active properties, which render the required protective functions to replace conventional plastic for food packaging applications. Various fillers, such as natural and chemically synthesized, could be incorporated into the bioplastic, and their overall properties improve significantly for the food packaging application.

Abstract
This research aims to discover a viable substitute for the common harmful plastic packaging utilized in food products. Citric acid was employed as an accessible and risk-free precursor in synthesizing graphene quantum dots (GQDs). Using the efficient carbonization technique, GQDs were obtained and subsequently transferred to nano-biofilms in varying percentages relative to natural polymers. FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDX, and AFM analyses were conducted to examine the formation of the nano-biofilms. GQDs demonstrated optimal performance in the disk diffusion method and the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical approach. Adding GQDs to starch and gelatin composite improved the physical properties of nano-biofilms such as moisture contact, swelling index, and solubility. The transparency of the films was reduced by GQDs, which reduces the transmission of visible light and plays an important role in food protection. The packaging films' weight loss due to decomposition was examined after being buried in soil for 50 days, which relieved the eco-concerns of these packaging films. To evaluate the performance of the films in inhibiting food spoilage, cherries, and cucumbers were packed with a control film and the fabricated film containing 14 wt% of GQD. After 14 days, the modified nano-biofilm was able to maintain the freshness of the samples.

Abstract
In this study, we synthesized nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) with remarkable photodynamic antibacterial properties by a hydrothermal method. The composite film was prepared by solvent casting method, compounding N-CDs with chitosan (CS). The morphology and structure of the films were analyzed by Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) techniques. The films' mechanical, barrier, thermal stability, and antibacterial properties were analyzed. A preservation test of the films was studied on the samples of pork, volatile base nitrogen (TVB-N), total viable count (TVC), and pH were determined. Besides, the effect of film on the preservation of blueberries was observed. The study found that, compared with the CS film, the CS/N-CDs composite film is strong and flexible, with good UV light barrier performance. The prepared CS/7 % N-CDs composites showed high photodynamic antibacterial rates of 91.2 % and 99.9 % for E. coli and S. aureus, respectively. In the preservation of pork, it was found that its pH, TVB-N, and TVC indicators were significantly lower. The extent of mold contamination and anthocyanin loss was less in the CS/3 % N-CDs composite film-coated group, which could greatly extend the shelf life of food.

Abstract
In the wake of increasing demands on skin health, we propose simple, natural, and safe dry facial masks that restrict melanin synthesis. Phyllanthus emblica (P. emblica) is made into powders via a low-temperature extraction and freeze-drying process to serve as a natural agent. Next, it is added to mixtures containing Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and Chitosan (CS), after which the blends are electrospun into PVP/CS/P. emblica nanofiber membrane dry facial masks using the electrospinning technique. The dry facial masks are evaluated using the calibration analysis method, extraction rate test, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), release rate test, tyrosinase inhibition assay, biocompatibility test, and anti-inflammatory capacity test. Test results indicate that when the electrospinning mixture contains 29.0% P. emblica, the nanofibers have a diameter of ≤214.27 ± 74.51 nm and a water contact angle of 77.25 ± 2.21. P. emblica is completely released in twenty minutes, and the tyrosinase inhibition rate reaches 99.53 ± 0.45% and the cell activity ≥82.60 ± 1.30%. Moreover, the anti-inflammatory capacity test results suggest that dry facial masks confine inflammatory factors. PVP/CS/P. emblica nanofiber dry facial masks demonstrate excellent tyrosinase inhibition and are hydrophilic, biocompatible, and inflammation-free. The dry facial masks are a suitable material that is worthwhile exploring and applying to the cosmetic field.
