Abstract
INTRODUCTION The abundant functions of music and its effects on human's mental and physical health have been verified since ancient times, but rarely received attention as an alternative obstetric intervention. OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the benefits of music therapy on prenatal and delivery experiences of pregnant women. METHOD A systematic search for articles was conducted in electronic databases including CINAHL, Web of Science, PubMed/Medline, and CNKI. A total of 240 articles were identified, and 17 studies were selected for this review. The extracted data included author, year, location, sample size, intervention phase, type of music, music therapy strategy, measuring instruments, and results. The data were organized chronologically based on the publication year of each study. RESULT The articles indicated that music therapy has advantages in reducing pain during childbirth, lowering anxiety and stress levels in mothers, improving sleep quality, and increasing fetal movements, basal fetal heart rate, and accelerations. CONCLUSION Based on the findings, it can be concluded that music therapy is an effective approach to enhance the experience of pregnant women during pregnancy and delivery. Therefore, its implementation in obstetrical clinical practice is highly recommended.

Abstract
AIM This study was conducted to determine the effects of music therapy on non-stress test results and anxiety levels in high-risk pregnant women. METHODS This randomized controlled study was conducted in pregnant women who were hospitalized in the High-Risk Pregnancy Service of Meram Medical Faculty Hospital, Konya, Turkey, between April 1 and July 31, 2021. In the intervention group (n = 58), a 20-min music therapy with ney sounds was performed, while in the control group (n = 58), routine care practices were applied. Hüseyni maqam of ney was selected, a melodic mode used by Turks for music therapy. Data were collected using the Descriptive Information Form, the Non-Stress Test Evaluation Form, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. RESULTS After music therapy, the intervention group experienced increased mean acceleration (p = 0.010) and foetal movement rates (p < 0.001) while no such difference was observed in the control group. The state anxiety levels of pregnant women differed significantly between the intervention and control groups (p < 0.001). Regression analysis showed that music therapy reduced state anxiety levels in pregnant women by a factor of 4.6 (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Based on the findings, music therapy was found to enhance acceleration and foetal heart rate in high-risk pregnant women while reducing state anxiety levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pregnant women often experience anxiety due to pregnancy, negatively impacting their and their fetus' health. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as virtual reality (VR), could reduce anxiety levels, potentially impacting non-stress tests or the physiological responses of the pregnant woman and the fetus. METHODS A randomized clinical trial conducted between February and December 2022 involved 286 term pregnant women. They were divided into a VR intervention group (146 women) and a control group (140 women). The intervention consisted of 20 min of 3D glasses with images and sounds during a third-trimester nonstress test. Anxiety was measured using the Spielberg State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), alongside physiological parameters. RESULTS The VR group exhibited lower anxiety levels compared to controls (STAI score: Rosenthal's r: -0.54, p = 0.01; state anxiety: Rosenthal's r: -0.40, p = 0.001; trait anxiety: Rosenthal's r: -0.41, p = 0.001). Within the VR group, there was a significant reduction in trait anxiety (Rosenthal's r, 1.27; p < 0.001) and total anxiety (Rosenthal's r, 1.63; p < 0.001) post-intervention, along with decreased systolic blood pressure (p < 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (p < 0.001), and maternal heart rate (p = 0.02). LIMITATIONS Future research could explore additional pregnancy-related variables, such as postpartum anxiety. CONCLUSIONS The results confirm that the use of VR is beneficial for pregnant women and their fetuses, as it decreases anxiety levels, and improves physiological parameters such as blood pressure and maternal heart rate during the nonstress test. VR is a technique that is easy to integrate into the healthcare system due to its non-invasive and non-pharmacological nature.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prenatal tests cause high-risk pregnant women to experience high anxiety levels. AIM This paper investigated the effect of Virtual Reality (VR) and music on anxiety, non-stress test parameters, and satisfaction of high-risk pregnant women undergoing non-stress tests (NSTs). METHODS This was a randomized controlled trial. The sample consisted of 102 participants randomized into three groups (VR = 34, music = 34, and control = 34). Maternal anxiety was assessed using the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-S (STAI-S) before and after NSTs. Satisfaction was evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) after NSTs. NST parameters were evaluated after NSTs. The findings were reported based on the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT). RESULTS The VR and music groups had significantly lower mean posttest STAI-S scores than the control group (p <.05). There was no significant difference in NST findings (reactive/nonreactive) between the groups (p >.05). The VR group had a significantly shorter reactive NST duration than the control group (p <.05). The VR and music groups had significantly higher mean VAS-satisfaction scores than the control group (p <.05) CONCLUSION: Virtual reality and music during NSTs help high-risk pregnant women experience less anxiety and satisfy them more with the procedure. We recommend that obstetric midwives and nurses use these low-cost, simple, and noninvasive methods to reduce anxiety in high-risk pregnant women during prenatal testing.

Abstract
The study was conducted to investigate the effect of virtual reality on fetal movement, fetal heart rate, maternal satisfaction, fatigue and anxiety levels. The data of this randomized control experimental design study were collected using the State Anxiety Inventory, the Visual Analogue for Fatigue and the Newcastle-Satisfaction-Nursing-Care-Scale. A total of 88 pregnant women were included in the study. While the pregnant women in the experimental group watched a nature video with virtual reality during the Non-Stress Test procedure, those in the control group underwent the routine Non-Stress Test. The anxiety scores, the maternal satisfaction scores significantly higher in the experimental group. The virtual reality application is effective in reducing fatigue. There was a significant difference only in the experimental group in terms of systolic blood pressure, pulse values, the number of fetal movements and accelerations. It is recommended to have pregnant women use virtual reality during the Non-Stress Test procedure.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Anxiety negatively affects pregnant women and their fetuses. It can cause misleading test readings in electronic fetal monitoring, affect the duration of the first stage of labor, and influence certain aspects related to childbirth. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of virtual reality and music therapy on anxiety levels, maternal and fetal physiologic parameters, and labor and birth outcomes. METHODS A total of 343 full-term pregnant women participated in a randomized controlled trial and were divided into 3 parallel groups: music therapy intervention (n = 104), virtual reality intervention (n = 124), and control (n = 115). The interventions were delivered during a nonstress test in the third trimester and during labor. Data were collected from April 2017 to May 2018. Measures included the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, maternal blood pressure, maternal and fetal heart rates, and labor and birth outcomes. The study was registered in the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trial Registry (ACTRN12621001647820). RESULTS Women in the music therapy and virtual reality groups had lower levels of anxiety after a nonstress test (P < .001), and the women were more likely to have a reactive nonstress test (P < .001) compared with the control group. After the nonstress test and intervention were complete, the music therapy and virtual reality groups had significant decreases in systolic blood pressure (P < .001), diastolic blood pressure (P < .001), and maternal heart rate (P = .003) compared with the control group. Furthermore, fetuses in the control group were more likely to experience nonreassuring fetal heart rate tracings compared with the music therapy and virtual reality groups, respectively (P = .004). DISCUSSION Our findings support the use of music and virtual reality during nonstress tests and labor as nonpharmacologic interventions to reduce anxiety, improve maternal and fetal physiologic parameters, and improve labor and birth outcomes. This research should be replicated in diverse perinatal settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This pilot randomized controlled experimental study was conducted to investigate effects of music on sleep quality and comfort levels of pregnant women. METHODS The sample of the study consisted of 70 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study. The pregnant women were assigned to the music (n=35) and control groups (n=35). In the study, the musical pieces composed in Uşşak mode were played for the participants in the music group. The pregnant women in the music group were first asked to empty their bladder and then listen to music for 30 min in a semi-Fowler's position with their head and shoulders raised 30°, in a quiet and dim environment, every other day for two weeks before going to sleep. The Pregnant Information Form, Prenatal Comfort Scale (PCS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index - 1 week (PSQI-1 week) were used to collect the study data. RESULTS The analysis of the mean scores obtained from the overall PSQI-1 week by the pregnant women in the music and control groups by weeks demonstrated that there was a statistically significant difference between the music and control groups in the second week (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of the mean scores they obtained from the overall PCS (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Music increased the sleep quality of the pregnant women in the music group, but had no effect on their comfort levels.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effect of motivational video stimulation and nutrition on the non-stress test (NST). The sample of the study consisted of 360 pregnant women in total, including two experimental groups and one control group (120 pregnant women in each group). After the pregnant women in the study were divided into three groups at a 1:1:1 ratio with the computer-assisted random sampling method, the draw method was used to determine the experimental and control groups. The pregnant women in the first experimental group were allowed to consume cake and juice 30 min before the NST procedure. The pregnant women in the second experimental group were also allowed to consume cake and juice, while they were also shown a video with the content of development and changes in the mother and the foetus during pregnancy, with relaxing music, for about 15-20 min. There was no intervention made in the control group. The data were collected using a Participant Information Form and an NST Findings Registry Form which were created by the researchers based on their review of the relevant literature. The data were analysed using arithmetic means, percentage distributions, ANOVA, Bonferroni and chi-squared tests. It was found that the mean number of foetal movements and the mean number of accelerations in the cake + juice and motivational video groups were higher than those in the control group (p < 0.001). Besides, the pregnant women in the experimental groups were found to have more reactive NST results. As a result, it was determined that the motivational video and cake + juice interventions improved the movement of the foetus, the number of accelerations and the ratio of reactivity in NST, but the two interventions did not have any superiority over each other. It is recommended to offer cake and juice to pregnant women before NST or have them watch a motivational video during NST, for having good NST results.Impact statementWhat is already known about the topic? The false-positive rates of the NST, which enables monitoring foetal movements and foetal heart rates, are high. These false-positive rates of the NST lead to many obstetric complications, in addition to increasing the rates of cesarean-section deliveries. Recent studies showed that there are methods and factors that increase foetal movements and shorten the application period of the NST. It was identified that food intake, music therapy, foetal vibroacoustic and halogen light stimulation before the NST increases foetal movements and shortens the application period of the NST.What this paper adds? In the study, it was found that watching motivational videos and consuming cake and juice increased the number of foetal movements, the number of accelerations and the rate of reactive NST results, but the two interventions did not have superiority over each other.What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? In order to increase reactive NST rates, it is recommended that pregnant women consume cake and fruit juice before the procedure and watch a motivational video during the NST procedure.

Abstract
To assess the effect of music on fetal well-being and anxiety levels and vital signs of pregnant women during the non-stress test. The study was a randomized controlled clinical trial. The sample comprised of 74 (37 music and 37 control group) pregnant women. In the music group, post-procedure pulse values were statistically lower than the pre-procedure values (p < 0.001). There was no difference between the groups in terms of baseline fetal heart rate, variability, fetal movement, presence and number of accelerations-decelerations, non-stress test result parameters. The number of fetal movements was statistically higher in the music group, compared to the control group (p < 0.001). The state anxiety inventory scores lower in the music group after the procedure, compared to the control group (p < 0.001). Researchers determined that music affects vital sign values, fetal movements, reduced the state and trait anxiety levels of pregnant women during the non-stress test procedure.

Abstract
The researchers' aims were to investigate the effects of music therapy applied to pregnant women on maternal, fetal, and neonatal results. Sample of the randomized controlled trial consisted of 100 (50 intervention, 50 control) primipara women. Nonstress Test was applied to women in 36th, 37th, and 38th gestational weeks. During the test, we played music to the intervention group and gave routine care to the control group. We determined that the mean scores of State Anxiety Inventory, evaluated during the Nonstress Test applications, decreased significantly after the application.Acceleration, mean number of fetal movements and reactivity findings were significantly higher in the intervention group. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of the State Anxiety Inventory means after childbirth and neonatal findings. According to the results, we determined that the music therapy applied to pregnant women decreased maternal anxiety and had positive effects on Nonstress Test findings.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this study was to assess the effect of hydration with oral water on non-stress test (NST).
Design/methodology/approach
The study was conducted as single-blinded and randomized controlled. Healthy and outpatient 32- to 40-week pregnant women who were aged 19 and older were included in the study. Intervention group pregnant women (n = 66) drank 500 ccs of water before the NST, and no attempt was made to the control group (n = 66). The NST parameters of the groups with fetal heart rate (FHR), variability, acceleration, deceleration, reactivity and nonreactivity were evaluated.
Findings
Both groups were found to be similar in terms of their descriptive characteristics and variables related to pregnancy (p > 0.05). The median FHR was 130.0 in the intervention group, 140.0 in the control group (p < 0.001), and the median number of the acceleration was 6.0 in the intervention group and 4.0 in the control group (p < 0.001). In terms of the median number of decelerations, the groups were similar (p > 0.05).
Originality/value
It was found that hydration with oral water had an effect on NST parameters of FHR and the number of accelerations. However, it was observed that the FHR was within the normal range in both groups. It was thought that it tended to increase the number of accelerations.
