Abstract
Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a newly defined group of disorders characterized by psychiatric symptoms such as psychosis and manic or hypomanic symptoms, with or without neurological symptoms. The most common neurological symptoms include seizures, altered mental status, autonomic disability, disorientation, and movement disorders. Our case report describes a type of AE caused by circulating autoantibodies against voltage-gated potassium channels (VGKC), which has not been reported before in the United Arab Emirates. This case report describes the psychiatric manifestations in a 17-year-old female with AE. It aims to shed light on the rare presentations of AE, discuss the various causes and management in greater depth, and the importance of suspecting and diagnosing AE early in the illness course. This rare case highlights the need for further research on the underlying biological, psychological, and social risk factors for developing AE in this region, and to direct further attention to developing early-intervention strategies in the vulnerable patient population.

Abstract
Objective. To investigate the clinical manifestations, laboratory and imaging examinations, and the treatment outcomes of autoimmune encephalitis (AE). Methods. The clinical data of 13 patients with autoimmune encephalitis who were hospitalized in the department of neurology, Liaocheng People’s Hospital from July 2016 to August 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Results. The average age of onset of the 13 patients was 45 years, including 6 cases (46%) of anti-NMDAR encephalitis, 3 cases (23%) of anti-GABAB receptor encephalitis, and 4 cases (30%) of anti-LG11 encephalitis, and 4 of them showed abnormal signals of brain MRI (30%). 13 patients (100%) had cognitive impairment and psychiatric symptoms; seizures occurred in 12 patients (92%); lung cancer was found in 1 patient (7%). One case was given up because of the treatment of lung cancer, the other was controlled obviously in epilepsy, and cognitive impairment and abnormal mental behavior were also significantly improved. Conclusion. Patients with AE still need to be diagnosed early to avoid missed diagnosis and receive early immunosuppressive therapy, which could effectively reduce mortality and morbidity. A detailed history, clinical manifestations, and positive results for specific NSAbs tests can confirm the diagnosis, and the treatment is mainly done by immunosuppressive therapy.

Abstract
Limbic encephalitis is an inflammatory process involving the limbic structures of the brain, manifested with short-term memory deficits, confusion, depression and seizures. It is usually a paraneoplastic condition but it may also appear as a nonparaneoplastic syndrome. Patients with this condition may exhibit a variety of antibodies in their serum or/and cerebrospinal fluid targeting basement membrane components that bind to a variety of neurotransmitter receptors such as α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionic acid and GABA B and proteins associated to the ion channels such as LGI1, Caspr2 or intracellular components. Flurodeoxyglucose PET/computed tomography usually demonstrates increased uptake in the limbic structures, and it may reveal the site of the primary tumor. Treatment consists of tumor removal if possible. Symptomatic treatment includes steroids, gamma immune globulin, plasma exchange, immunosuppressive therapies and anti-epileptic drugs. Prognosis is better when it is associated with antibodies against basement membrane rather than intracellular antibodies.

Abstract
Autoimmune encephalitis is a severe inflammatory disorder of the brain with diverse causes and a complex differential diagnosis. Recent advances in the past decade have led to the identification of new syndromes and biological markers of limbic encephalitis, the commonest presentation of autoimmune encephalitis. The successful use of serum and intrathecal antibodies to diagnose affected patients has resulted in few biopsy and postmortem examinations. In those available, there can be variable infiltrating inflammatory T cells with cytotoxic granules in close apposition to neurons, consistent with an inflammatory autoimmune basis, but true vasculitis is rarely seen. The exception is Hashimoto encephalopathy.

Abstract
This is a case report of a 17-year-old girl affected by N-methyl-D-aspartate-receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis suspected for a paraneoplastic syndrome. Ultrasound (US) and computed tomography (CT) imaging identified an ovarian lesion compatible with teratoma. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI), performed to evaluate metabolic activity of the brain and of the ovarian mass, correctly changed the diagnosis to uterine malformation that was later histologically proven.

Abstract
Hybrid positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MR) systems are now more and more available for clinical use. PET/MR combines the unique features of MR including excellent soft tissue contrast, diffusion-weighted imaging, dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging, fMRI and other specialized sequences as well as MR spectroscopy with the quantitative physiologic information that is provided by PET. Most of the evidence of the potential clinical utility of PET/MRI is available for neuroimaging. Other areas, where PET/MR can play a larger role include head and neck, upper abdominal, and pelvic tumours. Although the role of PET/MR in infection and inflammation of the cardiovascular system and in musculoskeletal applications are promising, these areas of clinical investigation are still in the early phase and it may be a little longer before these areas reach their full potential in clinical practice. In this review, we outline the potential of hybrid PET/MR for imaging infection and inflammation. A background to the main radiopharmaceuticals and some technical considerations are also included.

Abstract
Medical conditions that present with psychiatric symptoms are becoming increasingly well-recognized in response to the emergence of the field of neuroimmunology. As the availability of testing for novel antineuronal antibodies has increased, so too has the clinical awareness of this diagnostic spectrum. Psychiatrists may have little exposure to this area of expertise, yet may be called on to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex neuropsychiatric syndromes secondary to autoimmune encephalitis. This article summarizes the evaluation and management of patients with autoimmune encephalitis and describes emerging patterns in phenotype recognition.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To illustrate the neuropsychiatric and imaging findings in a confirmed case of voltage-gated potassium channel antibody limbic encephalitis. METHOD Case report and review of the literature. RESULTS A 64-year-old man presented with several months' history of obsessive thoughts and compulsions associated with faciobrachial dystonic seizures. He had no significant past medical and psychiatric history. Physical examinations revealed only mildly increased tone in the left upper limb. Bedside cognitive testing was normal. Positron-emission tomography showed intense symmetrical uptake in the corpus striatum. No underlying malignancy was identified on whole body imaging. Magnetic resonance imaging, lumbar puncture and electroencephalogram were normal. Serum voltage-gated potassium channel antibodies were strongly positive. The patient had a favourable response to antiepileptic drugs, oral steroids and immunotherapy. CONCLUSIONS Voltage-gated potassium channel limbic encephalitis characteristically presents with neuropsychiatric symptoms and temporal lobe seizures. Positron-emission tomography-computed tomography can be a useful adjunct to the clinical and biochemical work-up.
