Diverse role, structural trends, and applications of fluorinated sulphonamide compounds in agrochemical and pharmaceutical fields

Our knowledge of fluorine's unique and complex properties has significantly increased over the past 20 years. Consequently, more sophisticated and innovative techniques have emerged to incorporate this feature into the design of potential drug candidates. In recent years, researchers have become interested in synthesizing fluoro-sulphonamide compounds to discover new chemical entities with distinct and unexpected physical, chemical, and biological characteristics. The fluorinated sulphonamide molecules have shown significant biomedical importance. Their potential is not limited to biomedical applications but also includes crop protection. The discovery of novel fluorine and Sulfur compounds has highlighted their importance in the chemical sector, particularly in the agrochemical and medicinal fields. Recently, several fluorinated sulphonamide derivatives have been developed and frequently used by agriculturalists to produce food for the growing global population. These molecules have also exhibited their potential in health by inhibiting various human diseases. In today's world, it is crucial to have a steady supply of innovative pharmaceutical and agrochemical molecules that are highly effective, less harmful to the environment, and affordable. This review summarizes the available information on the activity of Fluorine and Sulphonamide compounds, which have proven active in pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals with excellent environmental and human health approaches. Moreover, it focuses on the current literature on the chemical structures, the application of fluorinated sulphonamide compounds against various pathological conditions, and their effectiveness in crop protection.

Se-Pair Search for Deciphering Selenium-Encoded Peptide and a Pyrolysis-Thermolysis Dietary Model for Minimizing Loss of "KKSe(M)R" during Processing

Dietary deficiency of selenium is a global health hazard. Supplementation of organic selenopeptides via food crops is a relatively safe approach. Selenopeptides with heterogeneous selenium-encoded isotopes or a poorly fragmented peptide backbone remain unidentified in site-specific selenoproteomic analysis. Herein, we developed the Se-Pair Search, a UniProtKB-FASTA-independent peptide-matching strategy, exploiting the fragmentation patterns of shared peptide backbones in selenopeptides to optimize spectral interpretation, along with developing new selenosite assignment schemes (steps 1-3) to standardize selenium-localization data reporting for the selenoproteome community and thereby facilitating the discovery of unexpected selenopeptides. Using selenium-biofortified rice under cooking, fermentation, and high-temperature and high-pressure processing conditions as a pyrolysis-thermolysis dietary model, we probed the single-molecule-level kinetic evolution of the novel selenopeptide "KKSe(M)R" with qual-quantitative information on graph-theory-oriented localization calculations, abundance patterns, activation energy, and rate constants at a selenoproteome-wide scale. We ground-truth-annotated thirteen pyrolysis-thermolysis products and inferred four pyrolysis-thermolysis pathways to characterize the formation reactivity of the main intermediate variables of KKSe(M)R and constructed an advanced probe-type ultrasound technique prior to pyrolysis-thermolysis conditions for minimizing loss of KKSe(M)R during processing. Importantly, we reveal the unappreciated pyro-excitation diversion of KKSe(M)R at pyrolysis-thermolysis time and temperature matrices. These findings provide pioneering theoretical guidance for controlling dietary selenium supplementation within the safety thresholds.

The first report on the assessment of maximum acceptable daily intake (MADI) of pesticides for humans using intelligent consensus predictions

Direct or indirect consumption of pesticides and their related products by humans and other living organisms without safe dosing may pose a health risk. The risk may arise after a short/long time which depends on the nature and amount of chemicals consumed. Therefore, the maximum acceptable daily intake of chemicals must be calculated to prevent these risks. In the present work, regression-based quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models were developed using 39 pesticides with maximum acceptable daily intake (MADI) for humans as the endpoint. From the statistical results (R2 = 0.674-0.712, QLOO2 = 0.553-0.580, Q(F1)2 = 0.544-0.611, and Q(F2)2 = 0.531-0.599), it can be inferred that the developed models were robust, reliable, reproducible, accurate, and predictive. Intelligent Consensus Prediction (ICP) was employed to improve the external predictivity (Q(F1)2 =0.579-0.657 and Q(F2)2 = 0.563-0.647) of the models. Some of the chemical markers responsible for toxicity enhancement are the presence of unsaturated bonds, lipophilicity, presence of C< (double bond-single bond-single bonded carbon), and the presence of sulphur and phosphate bonds at the topological distances 1 and 6, while the presence of hydrophilic groups and short chain fragments reduces the toxicity. The Pesticide Properties Database (PPDB) (1694 pesticides) was also screened with the developed models. Hence, this research work will be helpful for the toxicity assessment of pesticides before their synthesis, the development of eco-friendly and safer pesticides, and data-gap filling reducing the time, cost, and animal experimentation. Thus, this study might hold promise for future potential MADI assessment of pesticides and provide a meaningful contribution to the field of risk assessment.

Heterogeneous Activation of Peroxymonosulfate by a Spinel CoAl2O4 Catalyst for the Degradation of Organic Pollutants

Bimetallic catalysts have significantly contributed to the chemical community, especially in environmental science. In this work, a CoAl2O4 spinel bimetal oxide was synthesized by a facile co-precipitation method and used for the degradation of organic pollutants through peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. Compared with Co3O4, the as-prepared CoAl2O4 possesses a higher specific surface area and a larger pore volume, which contributes to its becoming increasingly conducive to the degradation of organic pollutants. Under optimal conditions (calcination temperature: 500 °C, catalyst: 0.1 g/L, and PMS: 0.1 g/L), the as-prepared CoAl2O4 catalyst could degrade over 99% of rhodamine B (RhB) at a degradation rate of 0.048 min−1, which is 2.18 times faster than Co3O4 (0.022 min−1). The presence of Cl− could enhance RhB degradation in the CoAl2O4/PMS system, while HCO3− and CO32− inhibit RhB degradation. Furthermore, the considerable reusability and universality of CoAl2O4 were testified. Through quenching tests, 1O2 and SO4•− were identified as the primary reactive species in RhB degradation. The toxicity evaluation verified that the degraded solution exhibited lower biological toxicity than the initial RhB solution. This study provides new prospects in the design of cost-effective and stable cobalt-based catalysts and promotes the application of PMS-based advanced oxidation processes for refractory wastewater treatment.
