Abstract
Several hydrogel materials have been proposed for drug delivery systems and other purposes as interfacial materials, such as components for fuel cells and immobilization of biomolecules. In the present work, two materials, an ion sol-gel, based on 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, and an ion jelly (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ethylsulfate) film deposited on carbon screen-printed electrodes, were electrochemically characterized. The electrode kinetics of ion jelly and ion sol-gel materials were compared by using ferrocyanide/ferricyanide redox reaction couple as a model redox process. Diffusion coefficients were calculated and compared to those obtained with the model redox couple in non-modified electrodes. Results pointed to a decrease of two and four orders of magnitude in the diffusion coefficients, respectively, for ion jelly and ion sol-gel film modified electrodes. Heterogeneous electron transfer constants for the ferrocyanide/ferricyanide ion redox process were also determined for modified and non-modified electrodes, in which the ion sol-gel film modified electrode presented the lower values. This work sought to contribute to the understanding of these materials’ properties, with emphasis on their diffusion, conductivity, and electrochemical behavior, namely reversibility, transfer coefficients, and kinetics, and optimize the most suitable properties for different possible applications, such as drug delivery.

Abstract
The imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) are solvents known for selectively solubilizing CO2 from a gas CH4/CO2 mixture, hence we have produced new hybrid adsorbents by immobilizing two ILs on xerogel silica to obtain a solid–gas system that benefits the ILs’ properties and can be industrially applied in CO2 capture. In this work, the ILs (MeO)3Sipmim.Cl and (MeO)3Sipmim.Tf2N were used at different loadings via the sol–gel process employing a based 1-methyl-3-(3-trimethoxysylilpropyl) imidazolium IL associated to the anion Cl− or Tf2N− as a reactant in the synthesis of silica xerogel. The CO2 adsorption measurements were conducted through pressure and temperature gravimetric analysis (PTGA) using a microbalance. SEM microscopies images have shown that there is an IL limit concentration that can be immobilized (ca. 20%) and that the xerogel particles have a spherical shape with an average size of 20 µm. The adsorbent with 20% IL (MeO)3Sipmim.Cl, SILCLX20, shows greater capacity to absorb CO2, reaching a value of 0.35 g CO2 / g adsorbent at 0.1 MPa (298 K). Surprisingly, the result for xerogel with IL (MeO)3Sipmim.Tf2N shows poor performance, with only 0.05 g CO2 / g absorbed, even having a hydrophobic character which would benefit their interaction with CO2. However, this hydrophobicity could interfere negatively in the xerogel synthesis process. The immobilization of ionic liquids in silica xerogel is an advantageous technique that reduces costs in the use of ILs as they can be used in smaller quantities and can be recycled after CO2 desorption.

Abstract
A new method was developed for simultaneous determination of copper, lead, and cadmium, based on their voltammetric response at a carbon paste electrode modified with hexagonal mesoporous silica (HMS) immobilized quercetin (HMS-Qu/CPE). Compared with quercetin modified carbon paste electrode (Qu/CPE) and quercetin ionic liquid modified carbon paste electrode (Qu-IL/CPE), the HMS-Qu/CPE exhibited improved selectivity and high sensitivity toward the detection of copper, lead, and cadmium. The properties of the HMS-Qu/CPE in 0.1 M HCOONa-HCl buffer solution (pH 4.7) were investigated by adsorptive stripping voltammetry (ASV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The electrochemical behavior of copper, lead, and cadmium at the modified electrodes and factors affecting the preconcentration procedures were also investigated. Detection limits of 5.0, 0.8, 1.0 nM for copper, lead, and cadmium were obtained, respectively. The method is simple, fast, sensitive, and selective, and is successfully applied to soil sample.

Abstract
A new redox amphiphilic ionic liquid (AIL) containing ferrocene as a redox-active group was synthesized, 1-(11-ferrocenylundecyl)-3-methylimidazolium bromide (Fc11MIm+). Adsorption and aggregation of both reduced and oxidized forms of this ferrocenated AIL in aqueous solution were studied by surface tension measurements. The micellization was favored for the reduced ferrocenated AIL (Fc11MIm+) as compared with the oxidized ferrocenated AIL (Fc+11MIm+). Minimum areas at the air/aqueous solution interface were identical whereas limiting surface tensions were slightly different. This corroborated the formation of an expanded monolayer of redox active AIL at the interface. The electrochemical behavior of redox active AIL was investigated. The electrochemical responses of Fc11MIm+ aqueous solution interestingly differed, depending on its concentration. Below the cmc, the electrochemical reaction was dominated by ferrocenated AIL adsorbed onto the electrode surface; then above the cmc, it was controlled by the Fc11MIm+ diffusing to the electrode. For the latter, the electrochemical mechanism was suggested to couple with the disruption reaction of the reduced form micelles.
