Abstract
This work presents a study of the formation mechanism of electrochemically deposited alternating layers of azopolymer and graphene oxide, as well as a systematic study of the physicochemical characteristics of the resulting nanocomposite films by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The nanocomposite films were constructed by cyclic electropolymerization, which allowed for the assembly of thin films with alternating azopolymers and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) layers in one step. Morphological characterizations were performed by atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy and verified that the electrodeposition of the poly(azo-BBY) polymeric film occurred during the anodic sweep, and the deposition of graphene oxide sheets took place during the cathodic sweep. By analyzing the electrochemical impedance spectra using equivalent circuit models, variations in the resistance and capacitance values of the system were monitored as a function of the amount of electrodeposited material on the fluorine doped tin oxide electrode. In addition, the interfacial phenomena that occurred during the electroreduction of the rGO sheets were monitored with the same method.

Abstract
Two azo dyes, acid red 1 (AR1) and acid red 18 (AR18), were used alone or in combination with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) for the electropolymerization of a pyrrole monomer. Polypyrrole (PPy) showed higher redox capacity when SDS and AR18 were used simultaneously as dopant agents (PPy/AR18-SDS) than when the conducting polymer was produced in the presence of SDS, AR18, AR1, or an AR1/SDS mixture. Moreover, PPy/AR18-SDS is a self-stabilizing material that exhibits increasing electrochemical activity with the number of oxidation–reduction cycles. A mechanism supported by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction structural observations was proposed to explain the synergy between the SDS surfactant and the AR18 dye. On the other hand, the Bordeaux red color of PPy/AR18-SDS, which exhibits an optical band gap of 1.9 eV, rapidly changed to orange-yellow and blue colors when films were reduced and oxidized, respectively, by applying linear or step potential ramps. Overall, the results indicate that the synergistic utilization of AR18 and SDS as dopant agents in the same polymerization reaction is a very successful and advantageous strategy for the preparation of PPy films with cutting-edge electrochemical and electrochromic properties.

Abstract
The photophysical properties of a multicomponent [1]rotaxane bearing a β-cyclodextrin ring covalently connected to an axle comprising an azobenzene photoisomerisable moiety and a naphthalimide-type fluorescent stopper are investigated by a combined experimental and computational study. The absorption and fluorescence spectra, and particularly the induced circular dichroism (ICD) signal, are determined. The latter shows a sign relation that cannot be rationalised in terms of the simple general rules commonly employed to analyse the ICD spectra of achiral guests encircled by chiral hosts. To assist the interpretation of experimental results, DFT and time-dependent (TD) DFT calculations are performed to explore the availability of low-energy conformations and to model their spectroscopic response. Molecular dynamics simulations performed in water show the interconversion of a number of conformers, the contribution of which to the ICD signal is in agreement with the observation.

Abstract
Dye doped polymers (DCPs) has a wide application based on their optical and electrochemical properties. Dye sensitisation of conducting polymeric materials has gained a wide theoretical interest and practical application in sensors and solar cell technology. This review gives a broad summary on synthesis, the effect of the presence of dye in the polymer (properties, structure and conductivity), application in sensors and dye sensitised solar cells. Different sensing modes are also discussed as well as the effects of post polymer modification with dyes in sensors. In solar cells, the role of DCPs in light harvesting is summarised using examples. Finally, perspectives and the advantages of dye modification or sensitisation of polymers in sensors and solar cells are included.
