Abstract
This study reports on developing a simple, cost-effective, highly sensitive spectrophotometric method for measuring mesalazine (MSZ). The method utilizes the oxidative coupling of MSZ with syringic acid (4-hydroxy 3,5-dimethoxybenzoic acid) in the presence of dissolved oxygen under alkaline conditions to form a stable indophenol dye with a characteristic blue color, which can be measured at 615 nm. Beer’s law was found to be obeyed over the range of 1.25–50 µg·mL−1, with a molar absorptivity of 0.53 × 104 mol−1·L−1·cm−1. Moreover, the method exhibited excellent sensitivity, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.093 µg·mL−1 and a limit of quantitation (LOQ) of 0.282 µg·mL−1. The proposed method was found to be selective, as it could effectively detect MSZ in the presence of certain interfering species. The proposed method was validated according to current ICH guidelines and demonstrated good accuracy, with recoveries ranging between 98 and 100% and a relative standard deviation of less than 0.6%. Overall, this method provides a promising tool for the sensitive and accurate determination of MSZ in its pure form, pharmaceutical formulations, and biological samples.

Abstract
Studies of nanosized forms of bismuth (Bi)-containing materials have recently expanded from optical, chemical, electronic, and engineering fields towards biomedicine, as a result of their safety, cost-effective fabrication processes, large surface area, high stability, and high versatility in terms of shape, size, and porosity. Bi, as a nontoxic and inexpensive diamagnetic heavy metal, has been used for the fabrication of various nanoparticles (NPs) with unique structural, physicochemical, and compositional features to combine various properties, such as a favourably high X-ray attenuation coefficient and near-infrared (NIR) absorbance, excellent light-to-heat conversion efficiency, and a long circulation half-life. These features have rendered bismuth-containing nanoparticles (BiNPs) with desirable performance for combined cancer therapy, photothermal and radiation therapy (RT), multimodal imaging, theranostics, drug delivery, biosensing, and tissue engineering. Bismuth oxyhalides (BiOx, where X is Cl, Br or I) and bismuth chalcogenides, including bismuth oxide, bismuth sulfide, bismuth selenide, and bismuth telluride, have been heavily investigated for therapeutic purposes. The pharmacokinetics of these BiNPs can be easily improved via the facile modification of their surfaces with biocompatible polymers and proteins, resulting in enhanced colloidal stability, extended blood circulation, and reduced toxicity. Desirable antibacterial effects, bone regeneration potential, and tumor growth suppression under NIR laser radiation are the main biomedical research areas involving BiNPs that have opened up a new paradigm for their future clinical translation. This review emphasizes the synthesis and state-of-the-art progress related to the biomedical applications of BiNPs with different structures, sizes, and compositions. Furthermore, a comprehensive discussion focusing on challenges and future opportunities is presented.

Abstract
A novel methodology to prepare sensors based on carbon nanostructures electrodes modified by metal nanoparticles is proposed. As a proof of concept, a novel bismuth nanoparticle/carbon nanofiber (Bi-NPs/CNF) electrode and a carbon nanotube (CNT)/gold nanoparticle (Au-NPs) have been developed. Bi-NPs/CNF films were prepared by 1) filtering a dispersion of CNFs on a polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) filter, and 2) filtering a dispersion of Bi-NPs chemically synthesized through this CNF/PTFE film. Next the electrode is prepared by sticking the Bi-NPs/CNF/PTFE film on a PET substrate. In this work, Bi-NPs/CNF ratio was optimized using a Cd2+ solution as a probe sample. The Cd anodic stripping peak intensity, registered by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV), is selected as target signal. The voltammograms registered for Cd stripping with this Bi-NPs/CNF/PTFE electrode showed well-defined and highly reproducible electrochemical. The optimized Bi-NPs/CNF electrode exhibits a Cd2+ detection limit of 53.57 ppb. To demonstrate the utility and versatility of this methodology, single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) were selected to prepare a completely different electrode. Thus, the new Au-NPs/SWCNT/PTFE electrode was tested with a multiresponse technique. In this case, UV/Vis absorption spectroelectrochemistry experiments were carried out for studying dopamine, demonstrating the good performance of the Au-NPs/SWCNT electrode developed.

Abstract
Voltammetric behavior of muscle relaxant dantrolene sodium (DAN) was studied and the voltammetric methods for its determination using polished and mercury meniscus modified silver solid amalgam electrodes (p-AgSAE and m-AgSAE) as well as using bismuth film electrode (BiFE, ex situ plating on GCE) have been proposed. These working electrodes represent the most commonly used alternatives to mercury ones which come wrongfully into disfavor because of alleged toxicity of mercury. Within this work, the obtained results of DAN determination have been completed by corresponding statistical parameters and also some electrochemical characteristics of AgSAEs and BiFE were assessed, especially in comparison with the mercury electrodes.

Abstract
The determination of ethyl [4-oxo-8-(3-chlorophenyl)-4,6,7,8-tetrahydroimidazo[2,1-c][1,2,4]triazin-3-yl]acetate (ETTA), a new anticancer prodrug, using adsorptive stripping voltammetry (AdSV) was described for the first time. This method is based on adsorptive/reductive behaviour of ETTA at an in situ plated bismuth film electrode (BiFE) as a sensor. A number of experimental variables (e.g., a composition and pH of the supporting electrolyte, the conditions of bismuth film deposition, an accumulation potential and time, the scan rate, etc.) were thoroughly studied in order to achieve a high sensitivity. Experimental results under optimized conditions revealed an excellent linear correlation between the monitored voltammetric peak current and the ETTA concentration in the range of 2-50μgL-1 following an accumulation time of 300s. The limit of detection (LOD) for ETTA following 300s of an accumulation time was 0.4μgL-1. The proposed facile, sensitive and inexpensive method was successfully applied to the determination of ETTA in serum. The investigated prodrug was extracted from serum using SPE method.

Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of raloxifene (RLX) on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) has been studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The CV studies were performed in various supporting electrolytes, wide range of potential scan rates, and pHs. The results showed an adsorption-controlled and quasi-reversible process for the electrochemical reaction of RLX, and a probable redox mechanism was suggested. Under the optimum conditions, differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was applied for quantitative determination of the RLX in pharmaceutical formulations. The DPV measurements showed that the anodic peak current of the RLX was linear to its concentration in the range of 0.2-50.0μM with a detection limit of 0.0750μM, relative standard deviation (RSD %) below 3.0%, and a good sensitivity. The proposed method was successfully applied for determination of the RLX in pharmaceutical and human plasma samples with a good selectivity and suitable recovery.
