Abstract
The environmental friendliness, economic feasibility, and high efficiency of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) render them as highly promising candidates for corrosion inhibitors. The present study proposed the fabrication of nitrogen- and sulfur-codoped CQDs via an one-step hydrothermal method using l-cysteine and 4-aminosalicylic acid as precursors. The structure, particle size, and surface ligands of the prepared CQDs were determined through spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy characterization. Subsequently, the inhibition performance of the CQDs on carbon steel in a 0.5 M sulfuric acid solution was evaluated through weight loss measurement, electrochemical methods, and surface analysis. The CQDs exhibited remarkable inhibition efficiencies of 97.9% at 293 K and 98.9% at 313 K, with a concentration of 150 ppm. In addition, the obtained CQDs demonstrated a combined physisorption and chemisorption adsorption behavior, which complied with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. These findings provide insight into the inhibition mechanism and highlight the potential of codoped CQDs for corrosion mitigation applications in acidic environments.

Abstract
As the feature size of integrated circuits continues to decrease, ruthenium (Ru) has been suggested as the successor to traditional Ta/TaN bilayers for barrier layer materials due to its unique properties. This research delves into the effects of ammonium nitrilotriacetate (NTA(NH4)3) on the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) performance of Ru in H2O2-based slurry. The removal rate (RR) of Ru surged from 47 to 890 Å min-1, marking an increase of about 17 times. The essence of this mechanism lies in the triple synergistic effects of NTA(NH4)3 in promoting ruthenium (Ru) removal: 1) The interaction betweenNH 4 + ${\mathrm{NH}}_{\mathrm{4}}^{\mathrm{+}}$ from NTA(NH4)3 and SiO2 abrasives; 2) The chelating action of [(NH4)N(CH2COO)3]2- from NTA(NH4)3 on Ru and its oxides; 3) The ammoniation and chelation of Ru and its oxides byNH 4 + ${\mathrm{NH}}_{\mathrm{4}}^{\mathrm{+}}$ from NTA(NH4)3, which enhance the dissolution and corrosion of oxidized Ru, making its removal during the barrier layer CMP process more efficient through mechanical means. This research introduces a synergistic approach for the effective removal of Ru, shedding light on potential applications of CMP in the field of the integrated circuits.

Abstract
The deterioration of carbon steel in saline solutions enriched with carbon dioxide represents a significant challenge within the oil and gas industry. So, this study focuses on the design and structural analysis of four azo derivatives: 4-(2-quinolinylazo)-catechol (AZN-1), 4-(4-phenoxyphenylazo)-1-naphthol (AZN-2), 4-(4-pyridylazo)-1-naphthol (AZN-3), and 4-(2-pyridylazo)-1-naphthol (AZN-4), and their first application as effective corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in a carbon dioxide saturated 3.5% sodium chloride solution. Spectroscopic methods were used to characterize the structural configurations of these compounds. The corrosion protection properties of these compounds on carbon steel in a carbon dioxide saturated 3.5% sodium chloride solution (under sweet conditions) were investigated using Tafel polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) studies. The results indicate that the inhibition efficiency increases as the concentration of the inhibitors increases. There is a notable agreement between the results obtained from the PDP and EIS measurements, supporting the findings. Moreover, the results displayed that these compounds had significant corrosion protection capabilities at low concentrations, ranging from 91.0 to 98.3% at an additive concentration of 5 × 10-4 M. The PDP profiles showed that these compounds acted as mixed inhibitors, and their adsorption behavior followed the Langmuir isotherm model. Besides, EIS results corroborate the adsorption of AZN compounds through a reduction in double-layer capacitance (Cdl) alongside an augmentation in polarization resistance (Rp) after the addition of AZN compounds into the corrosive solution. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis confirmed the formation of a protective layer on the surface of carbon steel when these inhibitors were applied. In addition, computational calculations and Monte Carlo simulations were performed to support the experimental observations, gain insights into the adsorption properties, and elucidate the corrosion inhibition mechanisms of these compounds.

Effect of Alkyl Chain Length on the Corrosion Inhibition Performance of Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids for Carbon Steel in 1 M HCl Solution: Experimental Evaluation and Theoretical Analysis. Abstract
In this study, five kinds of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([CXami]Br) ionic liquids with different alkyl chain lengths (8, 10, 12, 14, and 16) were selected as inhibitors. Then, their corrosion inhibition performances for Q235 steel in 1.0 mol L-1 HCl solution were investigated via a weight loss test, polarization curve method, and surface analysis techniques. The results show that these five imidazolium-based ionic liquids are all mixed-type inhibitors, and they can be spontaneously adsorbed onto the Q235 steel surface. The adsorption process follows the Langmuir model and involves mixed physical-chemical adsorption. Theoretical calculations confirm that the increase in alkyl chain length is conducive to the imidazolium-based ionic liquids exhibiting stronger chemical bonding abilities and forming denser adsorption films. The inhibition efficiency significantly increases below the critical micelle concentration (CMC) with an increase in alkyl chain length, and the highest inhibition efficiency is 95.17% for the [C16ami]Br inhibitor at the concentration of 0.005 mM. However, above the CMC, the inhibition efficiency is minimally affected by the alkyl chain length since all ionic liquid inhibitors have reached adsorption saturation on the steel surface.

Abstract
Potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were applied to study the inhibitory effect of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in hydrochloric acid solution. N-acetylcysteine influenced the iron dissolution to a greater extent than the hydrogen evolution reaction acting as a mixed inhibitor, predominantly anodic. The charge transfer resistance (Rct) gradually increased with the inhibitor concentration. From both methods, the inhibition efficiency (IE) reached a value of 89 ± 1% and NAC adsorption followed the Temkin isotherm. The value of adsorption Gibbs energy (ΔGadso), around -35 kJ mol-1, indicated a spontaneous adsorption and mixed action mechanism, with NAC chemical adsorption prevailing over physical one. New data will be reported by the computational study, that was performed using the density functional theory (DFT) method in aqueous phase. Quantum chemical descriptors were determined by B3LYP theory level with 6-31G+(d) basis set. Metropolis Monte Carlo atomistic simulation was used to reveal the adsorption configuration and interactions between acetylcysteine molecules and the carbon steel surface. Theoretical results were consistent with the experimental data, showing that the inhibitor action mechanism consisted of mainly chemisorption of its molecules on the carbon steel surface accompanied by van der Waals forces and electrostatic interactions.

Abstract
Two food flavors, furfuryl mercaptan (2-FFT) and difurfuryl disulfide (DFDS), were investigated as green corrosion inhibitors for the N80 steel in a CO2-saturated solution containing 3.5% NaCl. Experimental methods, quantum chemical calculations, and molecular dynamics simulation were employed to evaluate the effectiveness of 2-FFT and DFDS. The results of the study indicate that both 2-FFT and DFDS act as mixed corrosion inhibitors, with a dominant inhibition effect on the cathodic reaction. 2-FFT is physiochemically adsorbed on the steel surface in a tiled form through the furan ring and the - SH groups as adsorption sites. On the other hand, DFDS is chemisorbed on the steel surface through the - S-S- groups in a parallel manner. DFDS exhibits a higher tendency for electron transfer and stronger adsorption to steel compared to 2-FFT. Overall, this study highlights the potential of natural food flavors as effective and environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in CO2-saturated environments. The findings of this research can contribute to the development of sustainable and nontoxic corrosion inhibitors for the oil and gas industry.

Abstract
Inorganic corrosion inhibitors are commonly applied to mitigate severe corrosion in absorption-based carbon capture plants. They are, however, not environmentally friendly, posing a health risk, harming the environment, and making chemical handling and disposal costly. Therefore, this study evaluated the corrosion inhibition performance of an amino acid, namely cysteine, with the aim of providing an eco-friendly alternative to the commercial inorganic corrosion inhibitors. Electrochemical and weight loss corrosion measurements showed that cysteine was effective in protecting carbon steel at all process operating conditions. At 80 °C, a 500 ppm cysteine could provide up to 83% and 99% inhibition efficiency under static and dynamic flow conditions, respectively. Its inhibition efficiency could be improved when the cysteine concentration, solution temperature, and flow condition were altered. Cysteine was an anodic corrosion inhibitor and underwent spontaneous, endothermic, and combined physical and chemical adsorption that followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The quantum chemical analysis indicated that cysteine had a high reactivity with metal surfaces due to its low energy gap and high dipole moment. The EDX analysis revealed a significant sulphur content on the metal substrate, indicating that cysteine's mercapto group played an integral role in forming an effective adsorption layer on the metal interface.

Abstract
Aqueous solubility and interfacial adsorption of surfactants are important for numerous applications. Using molecular dynamics, we have studied the effect of the type of the polar headgroup (cationic quaternary ammonium and charge-neutral amine) and length of the alkyl tail on the hydration free energy of surfactants in infinite dilution. In addition, we have studied the effect of replacing the terminal methyl group of the alkyl tail with a more polar hydroxyl group on the hydration free energy. Quaternary ammonium surfactants have strongly favorable hydration free energies, whereas charge-neutral amine surfactants have unfavorable hydration free energies. The contribution of the quaternary ammonium group in reducing the hydration free energy is estimated to be as large as ∼63 kBT and that of the charge-neutral amine group to be 3 kBT. Both surfactants and their corresponding alkanes have minima in the free energy at the air-water interface. The quaternary ammonium group contributes to a 6 kBT decrease in the free energy of transfer from air-water interface to bulk aqueous phase (termed henceforth as interface transfer free energy). The amine group, on the other hand, has a net zero interface transfer free energy. The interface transfer free energies of surfactants are both enthalpically and entropically unfavorable. The enthalpic penalty is attributed to the loss of water-water interactions. Interestingly, surfactant molecules gain entropy upon their transfer from the air-water interface to the aqueous phase, but this increase is more than compensated by the loss in the entropy of water molecules, presumably due to the ordering of water molecules around the surfactants. Replacing the terminal methyl group of the alkyl tail with a hydroxyl group in quat surfactants reduces their hydration free energy by 10 kBT, thus making them more soluble in water. Attaching a hydroxyl group to the alkyl tail also inhibits their micelle forming tendency in the bulk aqueous phase. Overall, this work reveals how tuning the molecular characteristics of surfactants can help to achieve the desirable aqueous solubility, interfacial properties, and micellization tendency of surfactants.

Abstract
Chitosan–copper oxide (CHT–CuO) nanocomposite was made by an in-situ method utilizing olive leaf extract (OLE) as reductant. The OLE mediated CHT–CuO nanocomposite containing varying amount of chitosan (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 g) was evaluated as corrosion inhibitor for X60 carbon steel in 5 wt% hydrochloric acid solution. The corrosion inhibitive performance was assessed utilizing weight loss and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, linear polarization resistance and potentiodynamic polarization techniques complemented with surface assessment of the corroded X60 carbon steel without and with the additives using scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and 3D optical profilometer. The effect of KI addition on the corrosion protection capacity of the nanocomposites was also examined. Corrosion inhibitive effect was observed to increase with increase in the nanocomposites dosage with the highest inhibition efficiency (IE) achieved at the optimum dosage of 0.5%. The order of corrosion inhibition performance followed the trend CHT1.0–CuO (90.35%) > CHT0.5–CuO (90.16%) > CHT2.0–CuO (89.52%) nanocomposite from impedance measurements. Also, IE was found to increase as the temperature was raised from 25 to 40 °C and afterwards a decline in IE was observed with further increase in temperature to 50 and 60 °C. The potentiodynamic polarization results suggest that the nanocomposites alone and in combination with KI inhibited the corrosion of X60 carbon steel by an active site blocking mechanism. Addition of KI upgrades the IE of the nanocomposites but is not attributable to synergistic influence. The lack of synergistic influence was confirmed from the computed synergism parameter (S1) which was found to be less than unity with values of 0.89, 0.74 and 0.75 for CHT0.5–CuO, CHT1.0–CuO and CHT2.0–CuO nanocomposites, respectively, at 60 °C. Furthermore, KI addition improved the IE with rise in temperature from 25 to 60 °C. Surface analysis results confirm the formation of a protective film which could be attributed to the adsorption of the nanocomposites on the carbon steel surface.

Abstract
This review accounts for the most recent and significant research results from the literature on the design and synthesis of 1,2,3-triazole compounds and their usefulness as molecular well-defined corrosion inhibitors for steels, copper, iron, aluminum, and their alloys in several aggressive media. Of particular interest are the 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole derivatives prepared in a regioselective manner under copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) click reactions. They are easily and straightforwardly prepared compounds, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and stable products to the hydrolysis under acidic conditions. Moreover, they have shown a good efficiency as corrosion inhibitors for metals and their alloys in different acidic media. The inhibition efficiencies (IEs) are evaluated from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) parameters with different concentrations and environmental conditions. Mechanistic aspects of the 1,2,3-triazoles mediated corrosion inhibition in metals and metal alloy materials are also overviewed.

Abstract
Graphene is a two-dimensional sheet of regular hexagonal honeycomb lattice formed by sp2 hybrid orbital bonding, with only one layer thickness of a single atom, which is known as the "super king" of the 21st century. Previous studies have shown that cerium oxide-graphene oxide (CeO2-GO(4:1)) nanocomposites eliminated the agglomeration of graphene to some extent and the CeO2-GO(4:1) epoxy coating could be prepared with good anti-corrosion performance. In this paper, CeO2-GO(4:1) nanocomposites were prepared by the hydrothermal synthesis method, and the three-electrode method was used for electrochemical tests. The state evolution of CeO2-GO(4:1)/EP coating and the synergy between CeO2-GO(4:1)/EP and corrosion inhibitor in simulated seawater solution with different concentrations (20%, 40%, 60%) were analyzed and illustrated by Optical Microscope (OM) characterization, Open Circuit Potential (OCP), Electrochemical alternating current Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Mott-Schottky curve and Tafel curve. The results indicated that CeO2-GO(4:1) nanocomposites showed good corrosion resistance in a marine environment. This research lays a solid theoretical foundation for the application of cerium oxide-modified graphene oxide anticorrosive coating in marine engineering.

Abstract
In the present study, ({2-[2-(7-Isopropyl-1,4-dimethyl-9,10-octahydro-phenanthren-1-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1-yl]-ethylamino}-methyl)-phosphonicimidazole (GSIM) was synthesized by introducing phosphonate (-PH2O3) group into imidazoline derivatives and its corrosion inhibition performance was studied for Q345 steel in acidic medium along with SIM using potentiodynamic polarization, EIS and SECM analysis. Surface analysis of steel samples was also performed by optical microscopy and SEM-EDS analysis after polarization tests. XPS was used to detect chemical composition of the surface passive films. It was observed that introducing -PH2O3 group not only improved the adsorption capacity on the metal surface by coordinating with iron ions, but also inhibited the interference of hydrogen bond formed by -NH2 group and water molecules on the adsorption. GSIM not only inhibited intercrystalline corrosion and pitting corrosion, but also reduced uniform corrosion. Thermodynamics studies demonstrated that GSIM followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and had a larger adsorption equilibrium constant than SIM, which indicated that it had a stronger adsorption capacity. XPS and UV confirmed that the coordination between GSIM and Fe3+ and hydrogen bonding between SIM and water molecules. The quantum chemical study further clarified that the site and strength of hydrogen bond between SIM and H2O and the dominant configuration and coordination stability of GSIM with Fe3+.

Abstract
Synthesis of poly(3-aminophenylboronic acid-co-pyrrole) (p(APBA-co-Py)) is carried out potentiodynamically on a pre-passivated mild steel (MS) surface in an oxalic acid solution containing 3-aminophenylboronic acid (APBA) and pyrrole (Py) monomers. The monomer feed ratio was determined using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and adhesion tests. The p(APBA-co-Py) coating is characterized by electrochemically and spectroscopically comparing with poly(3-aminophenylboronic acid) (p(APBA) and polypyrrole (p(Py) homopolymers. SERS, FTIR, XPS, scanning electron microscopy-wavelength dispersive X-ray and- energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy results indicate the presence of both APBA and Py segments in the p(APBA-co-Py) backbone. The protective properties of the coating are investigated by Tafel and EIS measurements in a 0.50 M HCl solution. The corrosion resistance of p(APBA-co-Py)-coated MS (66.8 Ω cm2) is higher than that of p(APBA)- and p(Py)-coated, passivated, and uncoated MS. The p(APBA-co-Py) coating embodies the advantageous features of both homopolymers. Py units in p(APBA-co-Py) chains improve the protective property while APBA units carrying the –B(OH)2 group develop the adhesive property of the layer. EIS results show that the p(APBA-co-Py) coating, due to its homogeneous and compact distribution and the formation of a stable interface, enhanced corrosion resistance of MS by 87.4% for 10 hours in HCl corrosive medium. Synthesis of poly(3-aminophenylboronic acid-co-pyrrole) (p(APBA-co-Py)) is carried out potentiodynamically on a pre-passivated mild steel (MS) surface in an oxalic acid solution containing 3-aminophenylboronic acid (APBA) and pyrrole (Py) monomers.![]()

Abstract
The synthesized imidazoline phosphate quaternary ammonium salt has low stability, which is spontaneously and rapidly hydrolyzed to the long-chain fatty acid amide (LFA). The hydrolysate (LFA) has been found to be an efficient inhibitor for Q235 steel against CO2 corrosion, which yields a maximum value above 90% at a concentration of 1000 mg L−1. The LFA inhibitor acts as an anodic type inhibitor and its inhibition mechanism is a “negative catalysis effect”. The heteroatoms in the acyl, amine and phosphate groups in the LFA molecule are the active centers to bond with Fe atoms to form a chemisorbed film on the steel surface. The hydrolysate of an imidazoline-based inhibitor was characterized and tested, which can efficiently protect Q235 steel against CO2 corrosion.![]()

The resulting structure and particle size was measured with AFM and HRTEM. The thermal stability of the compound was investigated and showed a stability of up to 220 °C. The modified graphene oxide quantum dots showed excellent solubility in various organic solvents, including ethers, methanol, toluene, n-hexane, heptane, xylene, dichloromethane and toluene. The stability of a resulting toluene solution was also proven by static light scattering measurements over several days. The excellent solubility gives the possibility of an efficient and fast spray application of the functionalized graphene oxide quantum dots to steel surfaces. Hence, the macroscopic friction behavior was investigated with a Thwing-Albert FP-2250 friction tester. A thin film of the dodecyl amine functionalized graphene oxide quantum dots on steel lowered the friction coefficient from 0.17 to 0.11 and revealed a significant corrosion inhibition effect.

Abstract
This review describes the contemporary development applications on scientific areas of acyclic and cyclic Schiff bases and their complexes with an emphasis on the author’s contribution to the field. After a short historical introduction, this manuscript is divided into two main parts. In the first section, Schiff bases are reviewed for their biological activities including antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, cytotoxic, and enzymatic activities as well as their interaction with single-stranded-DNA which have shown remarkable activities in each region of research. The second part deals with the corrosion of metal and its alloys in corrosive environments and their organic inhibitors. The main section of this part is to investigate the different chemical structures for Schiff bases used in such aggressive solution to protect metals. Knowing the maximum corrosion efficiency or bioactivity of a specific chemical structure in a specific application environment is helpful for choosing the most appropriate compound. The contemporary development applications on scientific areas of acyclic and cyclic Schiff bases and their complexes.![]()

Abstract
The corrosion mitigation efficiency of biotin drug for mild steel in 15% hydrochloric acid was thoroughly investigated by weight loss and electrochemical methods. The surface morphology was studied by the contact angle, scanning electrochemical microscopy, atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy methods. Quantum chemical calculation and Fukui analysis were done to correlate the experimental and theoretical data. The influence of the concentration of inhibitor, immersion time, temperature, activation energy, enthalpy and entropy has been reported. The mitigation efficiency of biotin obtained by all methods was in good correlation with each other. Polarization studies revealed that biotin acted as a mixed inhibitor. The adsorption of biotin was found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Surface studies showed the hydrophobic nature of the steel with inhibitor and vindicated the formation of a film on the metal surface that reduced the corrosion rate.
