Abstract
The intersection between the field of hybrid materials and that of electrochemistry is a quickly expanding area. Hybrid combinations usually consist of two constituents, but new routes toward more complex and versatile electroactive hybrid designs are quickly emerging. The objective of the present work is to explore novel triple hybrid material integrating polyoxometalates (POMs), silver nanoparticles (Ag0 NPs), and activated carbon (AC) and to demonstrate its use as a hybrid electrode in a symmetric supercapacitor. The tri-component nanohybrid (AC/POM-Ag0 NPs) was fabricated through the combination of AC with pre-synthesized ∼27 nm POM-protected Ag0 NPs (POM-Ag0 NPs). The POM-Ag0 NPs were prepared using a green electrochemical method and characterized via UV-vis and IR spectroscopy, electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Afterward, the AC/POM-Ag0 NPs ternary nanocomposite material was constructed and characterized. The electrochemical behavior of AC/POM-Ag0 NPs' modified electrodes reveal that the nanomaterial is electroactive and exhibits a moderately higher specific capacitance (81 F/g after 20 cycles) than bare AC electrodes (75 F/g) in a symmetrical supercapacitor configuration in the voltage range 0 to 0.75 V and 20 mV/s, demonstrating the potential use of this type of tri-component nanohybrid for electrochemical applications.

Abstract
This article reports a surface modification of gold nanoparticles with water soluble polyoxometalate, V10O286- (decavanadate, V10). Two sizes of citrate-capped gold nanoparticles AuNP-Citrate-S (∼11nm) and AuNP-Citrate-L (∼46nm) were modified with V10 in aqueous media to form AuNP-V10-S and AuNP-V10-L, respectively. Both AuNP-V10-S and AuNP-V10-L were found to be significantly better than their citrate counterparts in strengthening Raman vibrational signals of analyte molecule. All the nanoparticles were characterized by UV-visible and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopies, dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) line analysis. We demonstrate that AuNP-V10-L is excellent surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate for a Raman-active analyte molecule at nanomolar concentrations.

Abstract
Different approaches to enhancement of electrocatalytic activity of noble metal nanoparticles during oxidation of small organic molecules (namely potential fuels for low-temperature fuel cells such as methanol, ethanol and formic acid) are described. A physical approach to the increase of activity of catalytic nanoparticles (e.g. platinum or palladium) involves nanostructuring to obtain highly dispersed systems of high surface area. Recently, the feasibility of enhancing activity of noble metal systems through the formation of bimetallic (e.g. PtRu, PtSn, and PdAu) or even more complex (e.g. PtRuW, PtRuSn) alloys has been demonstrated. In addition to possible changes in the electronic properties of alloys, specific interactions between metals as well as chemical reactivity of the added components have been postulated. We address and emphasize here the possibility of utilization of noble metal and alloyed nanoparticles supported on robust but reactive high surface area metal oxides (e.g. WO3, MoO3, TiO2, ZrO2, V2O5, and CeO2) in oxidative electrocatalysis. This paper concerns the way in which certain inorganic oxides and oxo species can act effectively as supports for noble metal nanoparticles or their alloys during electrocatalytic oxidation of hydrogen and representative organic fuels. Among important issues are possible changes in the morphology and dispersion, as well as specific interactions leading to the improved chemisorptive and catalytic properties in addition to the feasibility of long time operation of the discussed systems.

Abstract
Polyoxometalate cluster anions (POMs) control formation and morphology, and serve as protecting ligands, for structurally and compositionally diverse nanostructures. While numerous examples of POM-protected metal(0) nanoparticle syntheses and reactions can now be found in the literature, the use of POMs to prepare nano-scale analogs of binary inorganic materials, such as metal-oxides, sulfides and halides, is a relatively recent development. The first part of this critical review summarizes the use of POMs as protecting ligands for metal(0) nanoparticles, as well as their use as templates for the preparation of new inorganic materials. Here, key findings that reveal general trends are given additional emphasis. In the second part of the review, new information concerning the structure of POM-protected metal(0) nanoparticles is systematically developed. This information, obtained by the combined use of cryogenic transmission microscopy (cryo-TEM) and UV-vis spectroscopy, provides a new perspective on the formation and structure of POM-decorated nanoparticles, and on the rational design of catalytic and other functional POM-based nano-assemblies.
