Abstract
BACKGROUND Tobramycin (TOB), an essential aminoglycoside antibiotic in human life, poses potential threats due to its residues in the environment. The primary concern is the adverse impact of excessive TOB on human kidneys, hearing, and other organs, significantly affecting human health. Constructing a sensitive electrochemical platform for simple and rapid trace detection is crucial. Herein, to enhance the sensitivity of TOB detection in the environment and mitigate the risks associated with residual antibiotics, an ultrasensitive electrochemical aptasensor was developed. RESULTS The sensor employs a dual-cycle amplification strategy involving catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) and exonuclease III (Exo III) for efficient signal amplification. Simultaneously, the electrode performance was optimized by incorporating gold nanowires (AuNWs) onto the surface of reduced graphene oxide (PDA-rGO). Specifically, in the presence of TOB, which binds to the aptamer (Apt), dsDNA dissociates, releasing cDNA to open hairpin 1 (HP1) and initiate the CHA cycle with the participation of hairpin 2 (HP2). Exo III shears HP1 in the HP1/HP2 complex, freeing HP2 to participate in the CHA cycle again. Ultimately, a significant amount of signal label is retained on the electrode by hybridizing with sheared HP1, generating a robust electrical signal. SIGNIFICANCE Through the signal amplification strategy, the aptasensor design provides a broad linear range of 0.005-500 nM, with a low detection limit of 0.112 pM for TOB. It is worth mentioning that the aptasensor displayed favorable stability, specificity, and reproducibility, and has been successfully applied to practical samples, demonstrating its utility in practical applications.

Abstract
This work reports on the synthesis of nine materials containing Cu, Ag, Au, and Ag/Cu nanoparticles (NPs) deposited on magnetite particles coated with polydopamine (PDA). Ag NPs were deposited on two PDA@Fe3O4 supports differing in the thickness of the PDA film. The film thickness was adjusted to impart a textural porosity to the material. During synthesis, Ag(I) was reduced with ascorbic acid (HA), photochemically, or with NaBH4, whereas Au(III), with HA, with the PDA cathecol groups, or NaBH4. For the material characterization, TGA, XRD, SEM, EDX, TEM, STEM-HAADF, and DLS were used. The catalytic activity towards reduction of 4-, 3- and 2-nitrophenol was tested and correlated with the synthesis method, film thickness, metal particle size and NO2 group position. An evaluation of the recyclability of the materials was carried out. In general, the catalysts prepared by using soft reducing agents and/or thin PDA films were the most active, while the materials reduced with NaBH4 remained unchanged longer in the reactor. The activity varied in the direction Au > Ag > Cu. However, the Ag-based materials showed a higher recyclability than those based on gold. It is worth noting that the Cu-containing catalyst, the most environmentally friendly, was as active as the best Ag-based catalyst.

Abstract
Stabilization of cathode catalysts in hydrogen-fueled proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) is paramount to their widespread commercialization. Targeting that aim, Pt-Au alloy catalysts with various compositions (Pt95Au5, Pt90Au10, and Pt80Au20) prepared by magnetron sputtering were investigated. The promising stability improvement of the Pt-Au catalyst, manifested in suppressed platinum dissolution with increasing Au content, was documented over an extended potential range up to 1.5 VRHE. On the other hand, at elevated concentrations, Au showed a detrimental effect on oxygen reduction reaction activity. A systematic study involving complementary characterization techniques, electrochemistry, and Monte Carlo simulations based on density functional theory data enabled us to gain a comprehensive understanding of the composition-activity-stability relationship to find optimal Pt-Au alloying for maintaining the activity of platinum and improving its resistance to dissolution. According to the results, Pt-Au alloy with 10% gold represent the most promising composition retaining the activity of monometallic Pt while suppressing Pt dissolution by 50% at the upper potential limit of 1.2 VRHE and by 20% at devastating 1.5 VRHE.

Abstract
New catalysts based on Pd(0) nanoparticles (Pd NPs) on a bimodal porous silica of the UVM-7/polydopamine (PDA) support have been synthesized following two preparative strategies based on the sequential or joint incorporation of two components of the composite (Pd and PDA). We analyzed the role played by the PDA as ‘interfacial glue’ between the silica scaffold and the Pd NPs. The catalysts were tested for the hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol using (NEt4)BH4 as the hydrogenating agent. In addition to the palladium content, the characterization of the catalysts at the micro and nanoscale has highlighted the importance of different parameters, such as the size and dispersion of the Pd NPs, as well as their accessibility to the substrate (greater or lesser depending on their entrapment level in the PDA) on the catalytic efficiency. Staged sequential synthesis has led to better catalytic results. The most active Pd(0) centers seem to be Pd NPs of less than 1 nm on the PDA surface. The efficiency of the catalysts obtained is superior to that of similar materials without PDA. A comprehensive comparison has been made with other catalysts based on Pd NPs in a wide variety of supports. The TOF values achieved are among the best described in the literature.

Abstract
The design and fabrication of economically viable anode catalysts for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) have been challenging issues in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) over the decades. In this work, a composite electrochemical catalyst of Pd-coupled Ag and ZnO for the possible replacement of expensive Pt catalysts in DMFCs is successfully prepared. The as-made Pd@Ag/ZnO exhibits specific activity, which is 1.8-fold, 2.8-fold, and 4.6-fold higher than that of a Pd/ZnO catalyst, 20% Pd/C catalyst and Pd black, respectively. The improvement of the catalytic mechanism is likely due to the synergistic interaction between Pd@Ag and ZnO. The density functional theory (DFT) calculation results confirm that Ag doped into Pd weakens the adsorption of CO, dramatically improving the capability to resist CO poisoning.

Abstract
Uric acid (UA) and creatinine are the imperative biological substance for clinical monitoring and diagnosis. Measuring the ratio between uric acid and creatinine in urine helps differentiate acute uric acid nephropathy from the hyperuricemia that secondarily occurs to renal failure. In general, the ratio is greater than 0.9 in acute uric acid nephropathy and less than 0.7 in hyperuricemia. In this work, disposable nonenzymatic screen-printed reduced graphene oxide-gold nanocomposites electrodes were firstly developed for the quantitative analysis of uric acid. Our sensors were also coupled with the paper-based colorimetric sensor of the determination of creatinine. Hence, an alternative high-throughput screening test for the uric acid to creatinine ratio with high sensitivity, specificity, simplicity, and rapidity was developed. Under the optimum conditions, our disposable nonenzymatic screen-printed electrode for the determination of uric acid shows the acceptable analytical performance in a wide range of linearity (2.5-1,000 μM) with a low detection limit of 0.74 μM. Our electrodes also showed no interference from common physiologic compound in urine. The determination of creatinine has been developed using Jaffé reaction between the creatinine and picric acid in alkaline condition. The alkaline picrate color on μPAD changed from yellow to orange in the presence of creatinine and the orange intensity is directly proportional to the creatinine amount in a linearity range of 0.20-6.0 mM as a detection limit of 180 μM. Finally, our device has been utilized to determine uric acid and creatinine simultaneously in control urine samples with acceptable result.

Abstract
A simple method for the preparation of porous nitrogen-doped carbon spheres (MNCS) with honeycomb-like structures through the self-assembly of colloidal silica by using polyaniline as the nitrogen source and a carbon precursor is reported. The BET surface area calculated from N2 adsorption/desorption measurement of the MNCS is up to 882 m2 g−1. The synthesized MNCS were employed as a support for Pt nanoparticles for the oxidation of methanol and ethanol in alkaline media. Compared to Pt supported on commercial Vulcan XC-72R carbon (Pt/C), Pt/MNCS exhibit higher electro-catalytic performance and greater stability, indicating that MNCS have potential application prospects as electro-catalyst supports for alcohol oxidation in alkaline media. This enhancement in performance is due to the honeycomb-like porous structure of the MNCS and the doping with nitrogen. We synthesized honeycomb-like porous nitrogen-doped carbon spheres, which can be used as support of Pt for alcohol oxidation.![]()

Abstract
Since skin wounds are subject to bacterial infection and tissue regeneration may be impeded, there is demand for biomaterials that possess rapid bactericidal and tissue repair capability. Herein we report in situ promotion of wound healing by a photothermal therapy (PTT) assisted nanocatalytic antibacterial system utilizing a polydopamine (PDA) coating on hydroxyapatite (HAp) incorporated with gold nanoparticles (Au-HAp). The PDA@Au-HAp NPs produce hydroxyl radicals (OH) via catalysis of a small concentration of H2O2 to render bacteria more vulnerable to the temperature change. The antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus is 96.8% and 95.2%, respectively, at a controlled photo-induced temperature of 45 °C that causes no damage to normal tissues. By combining catalysis with near-infrared (NIR) photothermal therapy, the PDA@Au-HAp NPs provide safe, rapid, and effective antibacterial activity compared to OH or PTT alone. In addition, this system stimulates the tissue repairing-related gene expression to facilitate the formation of granulation tissues and collagen synthesis and thus accelerate wound healing. After the 10-day treatment of skin wounds in vivo, PDA@Au-HAp group exhibits quicker recovery than the control group and both sterilization and healing are completed after the 10-day treatment. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE This study presents in situ promotion of wound healing by a low-temperature photothermal therapy (PTT) assisted nanocatalytic antibacterial system utilizing a polydopamine (PDA) coating on hydroxyapatite (HAp) incorporated with gold nanoparticles (Au-HAp). The PDA@Au-HAp NPs produce hydroxyl radicals (OH) via catalysis of a small concentration of H2O2 to render bacteria more vulnerable to temperature change. After irradiation by 808 nm laser, the antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is 96.8% and 95.2%, respectively, at a low photo-induced temperature of 45 °C which causes no damage to normal tissues. In addition, this system stimulates the tissue repairing-related gene expression to facilitate the formation of granulation tissues and collagen synthesis and accelerate wound healing.

Abstract
Two series of Ag x /Au/Pt y trimetallic nanoparticles (Ag x Au1Pt2 with x ranging from 1-5 and Ag4Au1Pt y with y ranging from 1-3) were prepared by a sequential chemical reduction method that involved the deposition of Pt on preformed Ag/Au core-shell particles by systematically controlling the amount of Ag, Au, and Pt metal precursor solutions. The structural changes (the diameters and increased surface roughness from the defective features) and absorption patterns (the significant reduction of the peak intensities) of the nanoparticles examined with TEM and UV-vis spectroscopy indicated the selective incorporation of Pt on the Ag/Au nanoparticles regardless of their compositions. In addition, a combination of WDX, XRD, and XPS analyses quantitatively and qualitatively confirmed the successful formation of the Ag x Au1Pt2 and Ag4Au1Pt y trimetallic nanoparticles. Subsequently, these series of nanoparticles were deposited on multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to evaluate their electrocatalytic property in the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) as a function of their metal compositions. The results showed that the electrocatalytic activities of all Ag4/Au1/Pt y systems were higher than those of typical Pt on the MWCNTs. In particular, the Ag4Au1Pt2 nanoparticles exhibited the highest electrocatalytic property for the MOR, suggesting the importance of the proper combination of metal constituents and structures to regulate the activity in electrocatalytic systems.

Abstract
This paper reported the fabrication of ternary metallic PtPdBi hollow nanocatalyst through a facile, one-pot, wet-chemical method by adopting sodium borohydride and polyvinylpyrrolidone as reducing agent and surfactant directing agent, respectively. The hollow structure offers novel morphology and large surface areas, which are conducive to enhancing the electrocatalytic activity. The electrocatalytic properties of hollow PtPdBi nanocatalyst were investigated systematically in alkaline media through cyclic voltammetry and the as-prepared PtPdBi nanocatalyst displays greatly enhanced electrocatalytic activities towards methanol and ethanol oxidation. The calculated mass activities of PtPdBi electrocatalyst are 2.133 A mgPtPd−1 for methanol oxidation reaction and 5.256 A mgPtPd−1 for ethanol oxidation reaction, which are much better than that of commercial Pt/C and commercial Pd/C. The as-prepared hollow nanocatalyst may be a potential promising electrocatalyst in fuel cells and also may be extended to the applications of other desirable functions.

Abstract
In this work, we present a facile aqueous-phase synthesis of a hybrid catalyst consisting of PtAu alloy supported on Bi2O3 microspheres. Multistep reduction of HAuCl4 and K2PtCl4 salts on Bi2O3 and subsequent annealing lead to the formation of this hybrid catalyst. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of using Bi2O3 as a catalyst support in fuel cell applications. The material was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and various microscopic techniques. This composite showed remarkable activity as well as stability toward the electro-oxidation of ethanol in comparison to commercially available Pt/C. The order of the reactivity was found to be commercial Pt/C (50.4 mA/m2mgPt-1) < Pt/Bi2O3(10) (108 mA/m2mgPt-1) < PtAu/Bi2O3(10) (459 mA/m2mgPt-1). The enhancement in the activity can be explained through cooperative effects, namely, ligand effects of gold and Bi2O3 support, which helps in removing carbon monoxide molecules to avoid the poisoning of the Pt active sites.

Abstract
Porous bimetallic PdNi catalysts were fabricated by a novel method, namely, reduction of Pd and Ni oxides prepared via calcining the complex chelate of PdNi-dimethylglyoxime (PdNi-dmg). The morphology and composition of the as-prepared PdNi were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Furthermore, the electrochemical properties of PdNi catalysts towards ethanol electrooxidation were also studied by electrochemical impedance spectrometry (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CA) measurement. In comparison with porous Pd and commercial Pd/C catalysts, porous structural PdNi catalysts showed higher electrocatalytic activity and durability for ethanol electrooxidation, which may be ascribed to Pd and Ni property, large electroactive surface area and high electron transfer property. The Ni exist in the catalyst in the form of the nickel hydroxides (Ni(OH)2 and NiOOH) which have a high electron and proton conductivity enhances the catalytic activity of the catalysts. All results highlight the great potential application of the calcination-reduction method for synthesizing high active porous PdNi catalysts in direct ethanol fuel cells.

Abstract
Microcystin-LR (MC-LR) is a kind of hepatotoxin which can cause functional and structural disturbances of the liver, accumulate in aquatic organisms and transfer to higher trophic levels, a biocompatible electrochemical immunosensor was constructed to detect MC-LR sensitively and selectively. The three-dimensional villiform-like carbon nanotube/cobalt silicate (CNT@Co silicate) core-shell nanocomposites were synthesized and firstly used as the substrate to immobilize the antigen of MC-LR (Ag), while Fe3O4 nanoclusters/polydopamine/gold nanoparticles (Fe3O4@PDA-Au) core-shell magnetic nanocomposites were prepared as the label carrier of the immunosensor to conjugate the second antibody (Ab2) and horse radish peroxidase (HRP). Since the toxicity of nanomaterials is important in the construction of biosensors including the immobilization of antigen or antibody, the biocompatibility of such nanocomposites were investigated by monitoring the cell viability after culturing with Hela cells. Due to the excellent biocompatibility, the immunosensor can immobilize more antigens by the large surface area of the three-dimensional villiform-like structure in CNT@Co silicate, and provide high electrochemical signals by Fe3O4@PDA-Au labeled Ab2 and HRP. After investigation of the binding capability of biomolecules on nanomaterials and optimization of the conditions in the competitive immunoassay, the proposed electrochemical immunosensor shows a linear response to MC-LR in the range from 0.005 μg/L to 50 μg/L with a detection limit of 0.004 μg/L. In addition, the specificity, reproducibility and stability of the immunosensor were also proved to be acceptable, indicating its potential application in environmental monitoring.
