Abstract
Growing demand for pesticides has created an environment prone to deceptive activities, where counterfeit or adulterated pesticide products infiltrate the market, often escaping rapid detection. This situation presents a significant challenge for sensor technology, crucial in identifying authentic pesticides and ensuring agricultural safety practices. Raman spectroscopy emerges as a powerful technique for detecting adulterants. Coupling the electrochemical techniques allows a more specific and selective detection and compound identification. In this study, we evaluate the efficacy of spectroelectrochemical measurements by coupling a potentiostat and Raman spectrograph to identify paraquat, a nonselective herbicide banned in several countries. Our findings demonstrate that applying -0.70 V during measurements yields highly selective Raman spectra, highlighting the primary vibrational bands of paraquat. Moreover, the selective Raman signal of paraquat was discernible in complex samples, including tap water, apple, and green cabbage, even in the presence of other pesticides such as diquat, acephate, and glyphosate. These results underscore the potential of this technique for reliable pesticide detection in diverse and complex matrices.

Abstract
A new strategy to prepare copper (Cu) nanoparticles anchored in nitrogen-doped carbon nanosheets (Cu@CN) has been designed and the nanomaterial applied to the determination of paraquat (PQ). The nanocomposite materials were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and several other techniques. We found that the Cu nanoparticles are uniformly distributed on the carbon materials, providing abundant active sites for electrochemical detection. The electrochemical behavior of the Cu@CN-based PQ sensor was investigated by square-wave voltammetry (SWV). Cu@CN exhibited excellent electrochemical activity and PQ detection performance. The Cu@CN-modified glassy carbon electrode (Cu@CN/GCE) exhibited excellent stability, favorable sensitivity, and high selectivity under optimized conditions (enrichment voltage -0.1 V and enrichment time 400 s) of the SWV test. The detection range reached 0.50 nM to 12.00 μM, and the limit of detection was 0.43 nM with high sensitivity of 18 μA·μM-1·cm-2. The detection limit is 9 times better than that of the high-performance liquid chromatography method. The Cu@CN electrochemical sensor demonstrated excellent sensitivity and selectivity also in environmental water and fruit samples enabling its use in practical, rapid trace-level detection of PQ in environmental samples.

Abstract
Pesticides are heavily employed compounds protecting crops, however, these compounds can be extremely harmful to human health. Once the monitoring of pesticides in foods is of great importance, in this work we propose a ready-to-use electrochemical sensor made with 3D printing technology, capable of detecting paraquat and carbendazim in sequential analysis. The proposed electrodes are lab-made and of easy obtention, composed of graphite on a polylactic acid matrix, and provided great results for the analysis of paraquat and carbendazim in honey, milk, juice, and water samples. The sequential analysis of paraquat and carbendazim was proposed, providing optimal analysis of both compounds individually when both are present in a mixture. Limits of detection of 0.01 and 0.03 µmol/L for paraquat and carbendazim, respectively. Recovery tests attested to the suitability of the method, ranging from 94.5 to 113.7 %, and the suitability of 3D printing for environmental and food samples analysis.

Abstract
A facile and simple colorimetric biosensor was first established for paraquat (PQ) detection based on the aptamer-enhanced oxidation process of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) by Ag+. The study confirmed that the interaction of PQ-15 aptamer with Ag+ accelerates the electron transfer from the aptamer-Ag+ complex to dissolved oxygen, which enhances the release of superoxide anion radicals (O2̇-) and facilitates the catalytic oxidation of the chromogenic substrate. PQ-15 aptamer will preferentially bind to PQ molecules, resulting in no further enhancement of the catalytic activity of Ag+. Molecular docking results revealed that the PQ molecules are attached to the stem-loop region of the PQ-15 aptamer through σ-π conjugation interactions. The proposed method is simple that only contains Ag+ and corresponding aptamer. The limit of detection (LOD) of the constructed colorimetric biosensor for PQ detection was determined to be 16.5 μg·L-1, belowing the maximum residue limit in fruits and vegetables set by the EU. Moreover, the colorimetric biosensor showed excellent selectivity and anti-interference properties, which was validated for detecting PQ residues in several typical agricultural and water samples.

Abstract
Herein, we demonstrate a sensitive and rapid electrochemical method for the detection of paraquat (PQ) using a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with vertically ordered mesoporous silica films (VMSF) and a nanocarbon composite. The three-dimensional graphene-carbon nanotube (3DG-CNT) nanocarbon composite has a 3D network structure, a large electroactive area and oxygen-containing groups, promoting electron transfer between PQ and the underlying electrode and providing a suitable microenvironment for the stable growth of VMSF. This VMSF/3DG-CNT nanocomposite film could be prepared on the GCE's surface by a two-step electrochemical method with good controllability and convenience. Owing to the synergistic effect of the electrocatalytic ability of 3DG-CNT and the electrostatically enriched capacity of VMSF, the proposed VMSF/3DG-CNT/GCE has superior analytical sensitivity compared with the bare GCE. Furthermore, VMSF has excellent anti-fouling ability that makes the fabricated sensor exhibit satisfactory performance for direct analysis of PQ in environmental water samples.

Abstract
An electrochemical device using copper-based metalorganic franmeworks (MOF) associated with reduced graphene oxide to improve the charge transfer, stability, and adherence of the structures on the surface of the electrodes was developed. The syntheses of these materials were confirmed using scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectroscopy. For the first time, this type of sensor was applied to a systematic study to understand the action mechanism of MOFs and reduced graphene oxide in the electrochemical detection of paraquat pesticide. Under optimized conditions, paraquat was detected in standard solutions by differential pulse voltammetry (- 0.8 to - 0.3 V vs Ag/AgCl), achieving a linear response range between 0.30 and 5.00 μmol L-1. The limits of detection and quantification were 50.0 nmol L-1 and 150.0 nmol L-1, respectively. We assessed the accuracy of the proposed device to determine paraquat in water and human blood serum samples by recovery study, obtaining recovery values ranging from 98 to 104%. Furthermore, the selectivity of the proposed electrode for paraquat detection was evaluated against various interferences, demonstrating their promising application in environmental analysis.

Abstract
Pharmaceutical and food pollutants have threatened global health. Pharmacotherapy has left a positive impression in the field of health and life of people and animals. However, the many unresolved problems brought along with residues of pharmaceuticals in the environmental and food. Consumption of the world's freshwater resources, toxic chemicals, air pollution, plastic waste directly affects water and soil resources. Pesticides have a wide role in pollutants. Therefore, the determination of pesticides is significant to eliminate their negative effects on living things. Nowadays, there are many analytical methods available. However, new analysis methods are still being researched due to certain limitations of traditional methods. Electrochemical sensors have drawn attention because of their superior properties, such as short analysis time, affordability, high sensitivity, and selectivity. The development of new analytical strategies for assessing risks from pharmaceutical to food pollutants in water and soil sources is important for the measurement of different pollutants. Moreover, the 2D-carbon nanomaterials used in the development of electrochemical sensors are widely utilized to enlarge the surface area, increase porosity, and make easy immobilization. Graphene (graphene derivations) and carbon nanotubes integrated nanosensors are widely used for the determination of pesticides. 2D-carbon nanomaterials can be tailored according to the purpose of the study. The characterization and synthesis methods of 2D-carbon nanomaterials are widely explained. Furthermore, enzyme nanobiosensors, especially Acetylcholinesterase (AChE), are widely used to determine pesticides. The three main topics are focused on in this review: 2D-carbon nanomaterials, pesticides that threaten life, and the application of 2D-carbon nanomaterials-based electrochemical sensors. The various developed 2D-carbon nanomaterials-based electrochemical sensors were applied in pharmaceutical forms, fruits, tap/lake water, beverages, and soils sources. This work aims to indicate the recently published paper related to pesticide analysis and highlight the importance of 2D-nanomaterials on sensors.

Abstract
We propose the fabrication of a novel ready-to-use electrochemical sensor based on a screen-printed graphene paste electrode (SPGrE) modified with platinum nanoparticles and coated with a molecularly imprinted polymer (PtNPs@MIP) for sensitive and cost-effective detection of paraquat (PQ) herbicide. Successive coating of the PtNPs surface with SiO2 and vinyl end-groups formed the PtNPs@MIP. Next, we terminated the vinyl groups with a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) shell. MIP was attached to the PtNPs cores using PQ as the template, methacrylic acid (MAA) as the monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the cross-linker, and 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator. Coating the SPGrE surface with PtNPs@MIP furnished the PQ sensor. We studied the electrochemical mechanism of PQ on the MIP sensor using cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments. The PQ oxidation current signal appears at -1.08 V and -0.71 V vs. Ag/AgCl using 0.1 M potassium sulfate solution. Quantitative analysis was performed by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) using a deposition potential of -1.4 V for 60 s and linear sweep voltammetric stripping. The MIP sensor provides linearity from 0.05 to 1000 μM (r2 = 0.999), with a lower detection limit of 0.02 μM (at -0.71 V). The compact imprinted sensor gave a highly sensitive and selective signal toward PQ. The ready-to-use MIP sensor can provide an alternative approach to the determination of paraquat residue on vegetables and fruits for food safety applications.

Abstract
The thermoelectric (TE) materials can transform thermal energy into electrical energy, and polymer TE composites have attracted increasing interest for flexible semiconductors. However, polymer composites suffer from low TE performances due to the low electroconductibility (σ). Herein, grafted conducting networks were fabricated by grafting polypyrrole (PPy) onto the cheap graphene of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) in the bundled micro-tunnel of towel-gourd sponge (TS) fibers. Afterward, the TS powders containing grafted conducting networks were cured by the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The PDMS/TS-rGO-PPy composites exhibited an σ of 74 S/m, thermal conductivity of 0.249 W·m-1·K-1, Seebeck coefficient of 84.2 μV/K, and thermoelectric figure of merit of 5.427 × 10-4 with 10.0 wt % filler loading. Moreover, dynamic TE properties of our composites under tensile loading were investigated. The results show that the grafted conducting network maintained its integrity by interconnection of PPy between adjacent rGO nano-layers.

Abstract
Two dimensional conductive metal-organic frameworks (2D cMOFs) have been widely applied as electrocatalysts, electronic devices, and sensors. In addition, their intrinsic electronic properties could be efficiently tuned via varying the conjugated linkers. Herein, we report a novel 2D cMOF based on complexation of 2,3,7,8,12,13-hexahydroxyl truxene and copper ions via the energy economical interfacial reaction. This 2D cMOF was obtained as a brilliant black powder and showed a bulk electrical conductivity of 3.5 × 10-3 S cm-1 at 30 °C. Additionally, the cMOF-modified glassy carbon electrode could act as an electrochemical sensor for sensing paraquat with a limit of detection at 4.1 × 10-8 M (S/N = 3). The accession of truxene-Cu to the cMOF family would shed new light on the impact of the organic conjugated linker and broaden the scope of cMOFs' applications.

Abstract
Hexagonal boron nitride (BN), an effective diffusion material for mass transport, was functionalized with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and Au nanoparticles (Au NPs). Then, the working electrodes with developed nanomaterials were applied to construct an electrochemical paraquat sensor. BN was prepared using a solid-state synthesis method combined with solvent-cutting. The electrochemical properties of the BN/MoS2/Au NP-based glassy carbon electrode (GCE) were investigated using differential pulse voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry. An excellent response signal to paraquat was found from 0.1 to 100 μM with a limit of detection of 0.074 μM, and it had acceptable reproducibility (relative standard deviation = 2.99%, n = 5) and good anti-interference ability. The modified GCE showed superior performance owing to the synergistic effects among all three given nanomaterials. With the proposed method, paraquat in grass samples from an orchard was then investigated. The results of the electrochemical analysis agreed with those of experiments and obtained a 96.28% confidence level via high-performance liquid chromatography, exhibiting relatively high stability. Therefore, the fabricated sensor can be a candidate for the determination of paraquat.

Abstract
Major challenges in developing 2D transition-metal disulfides (TMDs) as anode materials for lithium/sodium ion batteries (LIBs/SIBs) lie in rational design and targeted synthesis of TMD-based nanocomposite structures with precisely controlled ion and electron transport. Herein, a general and scalable solvent-exchange strategy is presented for uniform dispersion of few-layer MoS2 (f-MoS2 ) from high-boiling-point solvents (N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), N,N-dimethyl formaldehyde (DMF), etc.) into low-boiling-point solvents (water, ethanol, etc.). The solvent-exchange strategy dramatically simplifies high-yield production of dispersible MoS2 nanosheets as well as facilitates subsequent decoration of MoS2 for various applications. As a demonstration, MoS2 -decorated nitrogen-rich carbon spheres (MoS2 -NCS) are prepared via in situ growth of polypyrrole and subsequent pyrolysis. Benefiting from its ultrathin feature, largely exposed active surface, highly conductive framework and excellent structural integrity, the 2D core-shell architecture of MoS2 -NCS exhibits an outstanding reversible capacity and excellent cycling performance, achieving high initial discharge capacity of 1087.5 and 508.6 mA h g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 , capacity retentions of 95.6% and 94.2% after 500 and 250 charge/discharge cycles at 1 A g-1 , for lithium/sodium ion storages, respectively.

Abstract
Paraquat (1,10-dimethyl-4,40-dipyridinium chloride), also known as methyl viologen, is widely used as a quaternary ammonium herbicide (broadleaf weed killer) all over the world owing to its excellent effect in plant cells for crop protection and horticultural use. However, it is dangerous because of its high acute toxicity even at low concentrations. Its detection in the environment is therefore necessary. As a consequence of its widespread usage, it causes genotoxic, teratogenic as well as other environmental and ecological adverse impacts. Exposure to PQ leads to a high mortality rate because no specific drug is effective for treatment. Excessive consumption of PQ can cause cellular damage and necrosis in the brain, heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys. The diversity and sensitivity of the analyses currently required have forced the experimenter to use more advanced and efficient techniques, which can provide qualitative and quantitative results in complex environments. Electrochemical methods generally meet these criteria while offering other advantages to achieve excellent accuracy and fast handling. This paper provides an overview of the determination of PQ using electrochemical methods combined with several modified electrodes in food samples, including milk, apple juice, tomato juice, and potato juice. Emphasis was placed on the most relevant modifiers used to generate high selectivity and sensitivity such as noble metals, metallic nanoparticles, polymers, biomolecules, clay, and apatite minerals. Comprehensively, it is strongly convincing that the synergy between the sensor substrate and the modifier architecture gives the electrodes a high capacity to detect paraquat in complex matrices such as food. In line with the context, information's on the mechanism of electrooxidation or reduction of PQ has been reported with the discussion of some future prospects and some insights. To the best of our knowledge, there is no review article relating the electrochemical determination of paraquat.

Abstract
In this paper, a novel electrochemical sensor based on Au nanoparticles/8-aminoquinoline functionalized graphene oxide (AuNPs/GAQ) nanocomposite was developed and tested for the first time for detection of paraquat (PQ). The morphology and composition of AuNPs/GAQ nanocomposite were characterized by various techniques, including transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry were utilized to investigate the electrochemical performances of AuNPs/GAQ nanocomposite modified glassy carbon electrode. The obtained modified electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards detection of PQ. Under the optimized conditions, the proposed sensor showed low detection limit (6 nM, S/N = 3), wide linear range (0.02-24 μM), high selectivity and good stability. In addition, it was successfully applied for detection of PQ in natural water samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract
An electrochemical method was developed for rapid and sensitive detection of the herbicide paraquat in aqueous samples using mesoporous silica thin film modified glassy carbon electrodes (GCE). Vertically aligned mesoporous silica thin films were deposited onto GCE by electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA). Cyclic voltammetry revealed effective response to the cationic analyte (while rejecting anions) thanks to the charge selectivity exhibited by the negatively charged mesoporous channels. Square wave voltametry (SWV) was then used to detect paraquat via its one electron reduction process. Influence of various experimental parameters (i.e., pH, electrolyte concentration, and nature of electrolyte anions) on sensitivity was investigated and discussed with respect to the mesopore characteristics and accumulation efficiency, pointing out the key role of charge distribution in such confined spaces on these processes. Calibration plots for paraquat concentration ranging from 10 nM to 10 μM were constructed at mesoporous silica modified GCE which were linear with increasing paraquat concentration, showing dramatically enhanced sensitivity (almost 30 times) as compared to nonmodified electrodes. Finally, real samples from Meuse River (France) spiked with paraquat, without any pretreatment (except filtration), were analyzed by SWV, revealing the possible detection of paraquat at very low concentration (10-50 nM). Limit of detection (LOD) calculated from real sample analysis was found to be 12 nM, which is well below the permissible limits of paraquat in drinking water (40-400 nM) in various countries.

Abstract
Monitoring of pesticide residues in food, beverages, and the environment requires fast, versatile, and sensitive analyzing methods. Direct electrochemical detection of pesticides could represent an efficient solution. Adequate electrode material, electrochemical technique, and optimal operation parameters define the detection method for practical application. In this study, cyclic voltammetric and differential pulse voltammetric techniques were used in order to individually and simultaneously detect two pesticides, i.e., carbaryl (CR) and paraquat (PQ), from an acetate buffer solution and also from natural apple juice. A graphene-modified boron-doped diamond electrode, denoted BDDGR, was obtained and successfully applied in the simultaneous detection of CR and PQ pesticides, using the differential pulse voltammetric technique with remarkable electroanalytical parameters in terms of sensitivity: 33.27 μA μM−1 cm−2 for CR and 31.83 μA μM−1 cm−2 for PQ. These outstanding results obtained in the acetate buffer supporting electrolyte allowed us to simultaneously detect the targeted pesticides in natural apple juice.

Abstract
The screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) modified with various nanoparticles has been studied for using as a working electrode in voltammetric technique. The electrochemical behavior of paraquat on different electrodes was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), and then differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) has been employed for trace analysis of paraquat based on redox reaction which the peak current was directly proportional to the concentration of paraquat in the solution. The SPCE modified with carbon nanotube dispersed in Nafion and ethanol (SPCE-CNT/Nafion) gave the best result. Sequential injection-differential pulse voltammetric (SI-DPV) method has been developed for more automated analysis and to reduce chemical consumption. The parameters affecting the SI-DPV system such as step potential, modulation amplitude, flow rate, and concentration of sodium chloride as an electrolyte were studied to improve the sensitivity. Under the optimum condition of the system, i.e., Nafion concentration of 1% (w/v), volume of CNT suspension of 2µL, flow rate of 100µLs-1, step potential of 5mV, modulation amplitude of 100mV and concentration of sodium chloride of 1M, a linear calibration graph in the range of 0.54-4.30µM with a good R2 of 0.9955 and a limit of detection of 0.17µM (0.03mgL-1) were achieved. The proposed system shows high tolerance to some possible interfering ions in natural water, surfactant, and other pesticides. The relative standard deviation (RSD) was 4.2% for 11 replicate measurements with the same electrode. The reproducibility for the preparation of 7 modified electrodes was 2.3% RSD. Recoveries of the analysis were obtained in the range of 82-106%. The developed system can be conveniently applied for analysis without pretreatment of the samples.
