Abstract
Sulfhydryl-based polyimides were synthesized by the nucleophilic ring-opening reaction of thiolactone monomers (BPDA-T, ODPA-T, BTDA-T) with polyethylenimine (PEI), and they were coated on carbon nanotubes as host materials (BPTP@CNT, ODTP@CNT, and BTTP@CNT) of the sulfur cathode. BPTP@CNT/S, ODTP@CNT/S, and BTTP@CNT/S as cathode materials not only promote the covalent bonding of sulfur and polysulfide with sulfhydryl-based polyimides but also reduce the shuttle effect of soluble polysulfide in the redox process. Moreover, sulfhydryl-based polyimides can help improve the compatibility and interfacial contact between sulfur and conductive carbon while alleviating the volume expansion of the cathode. In addition, the conductive network of carbon nanotubes improves the electronic conductivity of the cathode materials. The BTTP@CNT/S cathode showed superior stability (the initial capacity was 902 mAh g-1 at 1C, and the capacity retention rate was 88.58% after 500 cycles) and the initial capacity could reach 718 mAh g-1 when the sulfur loading was 4.8 mg cm-2 (electrolyte/sulfur ratio: 10 μL mg-1), which fully proves the feasibility of the large-scale application of sulfhydryl-based polyimide materials.

Abstract
Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) hold great promise as one of the next-generation power supplies for portable electronics and electric vehicles due to their ultrahigh energy density, cost effectiveness, and environmental benignity. However, their practical application has been impeded owing to the electronic insulation of sulfur and its intermediates, serious shuttle effect, large volume variation, and uncontrollable formation of lithium dendrites. Over the past decades, many pioneering strategies have been developed to address these issues via improving electrodes, electrolytes, separators and binders. Remarkably, polymers can be readily applied to all these aspects due to their structural designability, functional versatility, superior chemical stability and processability. Moreover, their lightweight and rich resource characteristics enable the production of LSBs with high-volume energy density at low cost. Surprisingly, there have been few reviews on development of polymers in LSBs. Herein, breakthroughs and future perspectives of emerging polymers in LSBs are scrutinized. Significant attention is centered on recent implementation of polymers in each component of LSBs with an emphasis on intrinsic mechanisms underlying their specific functions. The review offers a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art polymers for LSBs, provides in-depth insights into addressing key challenges, and affords important resources for researchers working on electrochemical energy systems.

Abstract
Quick capacity loss due to the polysulfide shuttle effects is a critical challenge for high-performance lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. Herein, a novel 2D/1D V2O5 nanoplates anchored carbon nanofiber (V-CF) interlayer coated on standard polypropylene (PP) separator is constructed, and a stabilization mechanism derived from a quasi-confined cushion space (QCCS) that can flexibly accommodate the polysulfide utilization is demonstrated. The incorporation of the V-CF interlayer ensures stable electron and ion pathway, and significantly enhanced long-term cycling performances are obtained. A Li-S battery assembled with the V-CF membrane exhibited a high initial capacity of 1140.8 mAh·g-1 and a reversed capacitance of 1110.2 mAh·g-1 after 100 cycles at 0.2 C. A high reversible capacity of 887.2 mAh·g-1 is also maintained after 500 cycles at 1 C, reaching an ultra-low decay rate of 0.0093% per cycle. The excellent electrochemical properties, especially the long-term cycling stability, can offer a promising designer protocol for developing highly stable Li-S batteries by introducing well-designed fine architectures to the separator.

Abstract
With the urgent requirement for high-performance rechargeable Li-S batteries, besides various carbon materials and metal compounds, lots of conducting polymers have been developed and used as components in Li-S batteries. In this review, the synthesis of polyaniline (PANI), polypyrrole (PPy) and polythiophene (PTh) is introduced briefly. Then, the application progress of the three conducting polymers is summarized according to the function in Li-S batteries, including coating layers, conductive hosts, sulfur-containing compounds, separator modifier/functional interlayer, binder and current collector. Finally, according to the current problems of conducting polymers, some practical strategies and potential research directions are put forward. We expect that this review will provide novel design ideas to develop conducting polymer-containing high-performance Li-S batteries.

Abstract
In this work, a unique three-dimensional (3D) structured carbon-based composite was synthesized. In the composite, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) form a lattice matrix in which porous spherical reduced graphene oxide (RGO) completes the 3D structure. When used in Li-S batteries, the 3D porous lattice matrix not only accommodates a high content of sulfur, but also induces a confinement effect towards polysulfide, and thereby reduces the "shuttle effect". The as-prepared S-3D-RGO@MWCNT composite delivers an initial specific capacity of 1102 mAh·g-1. After 200 charging/discharge cycles, a capacity of 805 mAh·g-1 and a coulombic efficiency of 98% were maintained, implying the shuttle effect was greatly suppressed by the composite matrix. In addition, the S-3D-RGO@MWCNT composite also exhibits an excellent rate capability.

Abstract
In this work, we report the preparation of polypyrrole nanowires with ordered large mesopores (OMPW) by a simple chemical polymerization method from dual templates synthesized by self-assembling silica nanospheres in porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane channels. The obtained OMPW showed a large surface area (231.5 m2 g−1), high aspect ratio, and interconnected large mesopores (~23 nm). The OMPW was tested as a supercapacitor electrode and showed a specific capacitance of 453 F g−1 at 0.25 A g−1. A sulfur/OMPW (S/OMPW) cathode was fabricated via a simple solution method and a heat-treatment process for lithium/sulfur batteries (LSBs). The S/OMPW composite delivered a large discharge capacity reaching 1601 mAh g−1 at the initial cycle, retaining 1014 mAh g−1 at the 100th cycle at 0.1 C. The great electrochemical performances of the OMPW capacitor electrode and S/OMPW composite were attributed to the large specific surface areas and interconnected mesopores that could supply more active sites for the electrochemical reaction and facilitate mass transfer.

Abstract
Herein, we demonstrate the fabrication of a three-dimensional (3D) polypyrrole-coated-porous graphene (PPy/PG) composite through in-situ polymerization of pyrrole monomer on PG surface. The PPy/PG displays a 3D hierarchical porous structure and the resulting PPy/PG hybrid serves as a conductive trap to lithium polysulfides enhancing the electrochemical performances. Owing to the superior conductivity and peculiar structure, a high initial discharge capacity of 1020 mAh g−1 and the reversible capacity of 802 mAh g−1 over 200 cycles are obtained for the S/PPy/PG cathode at 0.1 C, remaining the remarkable cyclic stability. In addition, the S/PPy/PG cathodes demonstrate an excellent rate performance exhibiting 477 mAh g−1 at 2 C.
