Abstract
This study developed a pore-connected PP-CA membrane by coating cellulose acetate onto a polypropylene filter. A new method was proposed to attach a CA/glycerin coating layer to a porous PP support without a separate binder. The pores of CA and PP were interconnected using a vacuum filtration device. By adding glycerin to the CA chains, the membrane region became more flexible due to glycerin plasticization. Water passed through the membrane under pressure differences, resulting in the formation of interconnected pores between cellulose acetate and polypropylene. The pore size and quantity could be adjusted by varying the molar ratio of glycerin. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed the interaction between CA and glycerin, while thermogravimetric analysis showed that the membrane's thermal stability increased by approximately 20 °C after vacuum filtration. This simple and cost-effective manufacturing process holds potential for mass-producing separators in the lithium-ion battery industry.

Abstract
Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries with high energy density and low cost are the most promising competitor in the next generation of new energy reserve devices. However, there are still many problems that hinder its commercialization, mainly including shuttle of soluble polysulfides, slow reaction kinetics, and growth of Li dendrites. In order to solve above issues, various explorations have been carried out for various configurations, such as electrodes, separators, and electrolytes. Among them, the separator in contact with both anode and cathode is in a particularly special position. Reasonable design-modified material of separator can solve above key problems. Heterostructure engineering as a promising modification method can combine characteristics of different materials to generate synergistic effect at heterogeneous interface that is conducive to Li-S electrochemical behavior. This review not only elaborates the role of heterostructure-modified separators in dealing with above problems, but also analyzes the improvement of wettability and thermal stability of separators by modification of heterostructure materials, systematically clarifies its advantages, and summarizes some related progress in recent years. Finally, future development direction of heterostructure-based separator in Li-S batteries is given.

Abstract
The membrane is one of the key inner parts of lithium-ion batteries, which determines the interfacial structure and internal resistance, ultimately affecting the capacity, cycling, and safety performance of the cell. In this article, an alginate-based fiber composite membrane was successfully fabricated from cellulose and calcium alginate with flame-retardant properties via a traditional papermaking process. In the membrane, the calcium alginate plays a bridging role and the cellulose acts as a filler. After 100 cycles, lithium-ion batteries by the alginate-based fiber separator exhibited better capacity retention ratios (approximately 90%) compared with those of commercial PP separators. Furthermore, the alginate-based fiber separator demonstrated fine thermal stability and electrochemical properties, showing a stable charge-discharge capability and no hot melt shrinkage at higher temperatures, which is a breakthrough in improving the safety of the cell. This research affords a new way for the large-scale fabrication of safe lithium-ion battery separators.

Abstract
In this paper, solution casting method is used to prepare the PP (polypropylene) non-woven fabric based composite film filled with silicon dioxide/polyvinylidene fluoride (SiO2/PVDF). The mechanical and thermodynamic properties of PP/SiO2/PVDF composites were studied by a uniaxial tensile test under different temperature and combustion experiment. It is found that the stress of PP/SiO2/PVDF composite film with 4 wt % SiO2 is the maximum value, reaching 18.314 MPa, 244.42% higher than that of pure PP non-woven. Meanwhile, the thermal–mechanical coupling tests indicate that with the increase of temperature, the ultimate stress and strain of the composite decrease. At the same time, the thermal shrinkage property of the composite during the heating process is studied. The modified composite has good thermal stability under 180 °C. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric (TG) were used to characterize the pore shape, distribution and crystal phase change of the composite. The modified PP/SiO2/PVDF composite film structure shows high strength and good thermal stability, and can better meet the requirements of strength and thermal performance of lithium-ion battery during the charging and discharging process.
