Investigation of polyaniline doped with camphorsulfonic acid in chloroform solution as a hole transporting layer in PTB7: PCBM and perovskite-based solar cells

The effect of inorganic salt on the morphology and nucleation of polyaniline nanofibers synthesized via self-assembly

Polyaniline (PANI), due to the various and controllable shapes, the environmental stability, the excellent physical and chemical property, has gained significant attention. PANI with abundant morphologies were successfully prepared through adjusting and controlling the state of the initial micelle-like in the micelle-like system composed by aniline and organic acids with relatively weak intermolecular interaction. Although the influence of the inorganic salts on their morphology, including the surface and the diameter, was investigated, the influence of salt on the nucleation of PANI was still unclear. Therefore, PANI nanofibers were fabricated through the addition of inorganic salt such as NaCl, MgSO₄ and AlCl₃ into the micelle-like composed of aniline and D-camphor-10-sulfonic acid. The influence of types and concentration of inorganic salts, doped acids and temperature on PANI was studied by Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), UV-vis and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) spectroscopy. In addition, in situ UV-vis and ¹H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance technology (NMR) were applied to observe the process of aniline polymerization, and it was indicated the polymerization rate of aniline changed after the addition of inorganic salt NaCl into the initial solution.

Enhanced Performance of Camphorsulfonic Acid-Doped Perovskite Solar Cells

High-quality perovskite film with large grains and therefore reduced grain boundaries plays a significant role in improving the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and ensuring good long-term stability of the perovskite solar cells. In this work, we found that adding camphorsulfonic acid (CSA), a Lewis base, to the perovskite solution results in the crystallization of larger perovskite grains. By varying the concentration of CSA, we found that the optimal concentration of the additive is 1 mg/mL, which leads to an 20% increase in PCE of the cells compared to the reference CSA-free cell. Interestingly, we observed that the PCE of cells with an excess of CSA was initially poor, but may increase significantly over time, possibly due to CSA migration to the hole-transporting layer, leading to an improvement in its conductivity.

Electron Transport Layer Optimization for Efficient PTB7:PC70BM Bulk-Heterojunction Solar Cells

Bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) polymer solar cells have received a great deal of attention mainly due to the possibility of higher power conversion efficiency for photovoltaic applications. Therefore, in this study, relatively novel polymer BHJ solar cells are proposed (ITO/ETL/PTB7:PC₇₀BM/PEDOT:PSS/Au) with various electron transport layers (ETL) such as zinc oxysulfide (Zn(O,S)), zinc selenide (ZnSe), and poly[(9,9-bis(3′-((N,N-dimethyl)-N-ethylammonium)-propyl)-2,7-fluorene)-alt-2,7-(9,9-dioctylfluorene)] dibromide (PFN-Br). Here, each ETL material is selected based on the energy bandgap compatibility with ITO as well as the PTB7:PC₇₀BM active layer and is based on other physical properties, which are generally required for efficient photovoltaic responses. Each proposed device is comprehensively optimized and then photovoltaic responses are simulated and compared using the software SCAPS-1D. It was observed that the ITO/Zn(O,S)/PTB7:PC70BM/PEDOT:PSS/Au device offered the highest power-conversion efficiency of up to 17.15% with an open-circuit voltage of 0.85 volts, a short-circuit current of 28.23 mA/cm², and a fill factor of 70.69%.
