Porous SnO2 microsphere and its carbon nanotube hybrids: Controllable preparation, structures and electrochemical performances as anode materials

Ag-MWCNT Composites for Improving the Electrical and Thermal Properties of Electronic Paste

With the development of microelectronics products with high density and high power, it is urgent to improve the electrical and thermal conductivity of electronic paste to achieve the new requirements of packaging materials. In this work, a new synthesis method of Ag-MWCNTs was designed: Firstly, carboxylated MWCNTs and stannous chloride were used as raw materials to prepare high-loading-rate Sn-MWCNT composite material to ensure the high loading rate of metal on the MWCNT surface. Then, Ag-MWCNT composite material was prepared by the chemical displacement method to solve the problem of the low loading rate of silver nanoparticles on the MWCNT surface. On the basis of this innovation, we analyzed and compared the electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of Ag-MWCNT composite electronic paste. Compared with the electronic paste without adding Ag-MWCNTs, the resistivity was reduced by 77%, the thermal conductivity was increased by 66%, and the shear strength was increased by 15%. Therefore, the addition of Ag-MWCNTs effectively improves the electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of the paste, making it a promising and competitive choice for new packaging materials in the future.

Hybrid CuSn nanosphere-functionalized Cu/Sn co-doped hollow carbon nanofibers as anode materials for sodium-ion batteries

To strengthen the electrochemical performance of anode materials for sodium-ion batteries, Cu/Sn co-doped hollow carbon nanofibers functionalized by hybrid CuSn nanospheres (CuSn/C@MCNF) were prepared by a simple electrospinning method. The microstructural characteristics of CuSn/C@MCNF confirmed the same doped elements and strong interactions in hybrid CuSn nanospheres and the hollow carbon nanofiber substrate. CuSn/C@MCNF has superior specific capacity, excellent conductivity and high cycling stability. In particular, the doped hollow carbon nanofiber substrate can facilitate Na+ transport and alleviate volume expansion during the process of sodium storage. When applied as an anode material for sodium-ion batteries, CuSn/C@MCNF can deliver a reversible capacity of 340.1 mA h g-1 at a large current density of 1 A g-1 for 1000 cycles and a high-rate capacity of 202.5 mA h g-1 at 4.0 A g-1, all superior to the corresponding Sn-SnOx@MCNF- and MCNF-based electrodes. This work provides a basic idea for future anode materials in high-performance sodium-ion batteries.

Three-Dimensional SnO2 Nanoparticles Synthesized by Joule Heating as Anode Materials for Lithium Ion Batteries

Tin dioxide (SnO2) is a promising material for use as anodes because of its high theoretical capacity (1,494 mAh g−1). However, a critical limitation is the large change in volume during repeated cycling by pulverization of SnO2, which results in capacity fading. In this study, we enhanced cycle life and reduced capacity fading by introducing the use of three-dimensional SnO2 nanoparticles on carbon nanofibers (CNFs) as an anode material, which is fabricated by simple carbothermal shock through the Joule heating method. Our observations show that the SnO2 nanoparticles are about 50 nm in diameter and are uniformly distributed on CNF, and that the strong connections between SnO2 nanoparticles and CNF are sustained even after repeated cycling. This structural advantage provides high reversible capacity and enhanced cycle performance for over 100 cycles. This study provides insight into the fabrication of anode materials that have strong electric connections between active materials and conductive materials due to the Joule heating method for high-performance lithium ion batteries.

Spray drying induced engineering a hierarchical reduced graphene oxide supported heterogeneous Tin dioxide and Zinc oxide for Lithium-ion storage

In this work, a hierarchical reduced graphene oxide (RGO) supportive matrix consisting of both larger two-dimensional RGO sheets and smaller three-dimensional RGO spheres was engineered with ZnO and SnO₂ nanoparticles immobilized. The ZnO and SnO₂ nanocrystals with controlled size were in sequence engineered on the surface of the RGO sheets during the deoxygenation of graphene oxide sample (GO), where the zinc-containing ZIF-8 sample and metal tin foil were used as precursors for ZnO and SnO₂, respectively. After a spray drying treatment and calcination, the final ZnO@SnO₂/RGO-H sample was obtained, which delivered an outstanding specific capacity of 982 mAh·g^-1 under a high current density of 1000 mA·g^-1 after 450 cycles. Benefitting from the unique hierarchical structure, the mechanical strength, ionic and electric conductivities of the ZnO@SnO₂/RGO-H sample have been simultaneously promoted. The joint contributions from pseudocapacitive and battery behaviors in lithium-ion storage processes bring in both large specific capacity and good rate capability. The industrially mature spray drying method for synthesizing RGO based hierarchical products can be further developed for wider applications.
