An overview of the digital solutions for helping people with aphasia through bibliometric analysis

A systematic review of reminder and guidance systems for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias patients: context, barriers and facilitators

Purpose. To present the latest available research assessing the actual impact of reminder and guidance technologies for daily activities in Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia's patients, outlining design implications for these technologies.Materials and methods. The search was conducted in the ACM Digital Library, IEEExplore, ScienceDirect, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Sage Journal, ResearchGate, and SemanticScholar. An iteratively-developed Boolean search string was built including up to 18 AND/OR terms across Four categories (Memory Aids, Technology, Daily Activities, Memory Impairment). We qualitatively analyzed the findings and discussions of the findings reported in 40 studies in our corpus to determine common barriers to, and facilitators of, effective intervention implementation and adoption.Results. Forty studies fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In existing studies, individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias understand the usefulness of different functions that can be provided within an app to assist with everyday tasks. There was a high level of heterogeneity regarding the studies' location, duration, and evaluation methodology.Conclusions. There is a need for assistive reminder and guidance technologies to be tailored towards autonomy, identity and personalization. A bibliometric analysis of global publication trends on rTMS and aphasia

BACKGROUND

Aphasia is one of the most devastating cognitive disorders caused by brain injury and seriously hinders patients' rehabilitation and quality of life. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation involves the repeated application of extracranial pulsed magnetic fields to the local central nervous system to alter the membrane potential of cortical nerve cells, generating induced currents that affect brain metabolism and electrical activity. As one of the most popular noninvasive brain stimulation techniques, it has been used to treat aphasia. However, only a few bibliometric studies have examined the research direction and main findings in the field.

METHODS

To obtain an in-depth understanding of the research status and trend in this area, a bibliometric analysis based on the Web of Science database was conducted. VOSviewer (Leiden University, Leiden, Netherlands) and Microsoft Excel (Microsoft, Redmond, USA) were used to extract bibliometric information. Analysis of global distribution was conducted using the webpage mapping implement GunnMap2 (http://lert.co.nz/map/).

RESULTS

Publications in this field were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database, and 189 articles met the final inclusion criteria. The most influential authors, institutions, journals, and countries were Ralph MA from the University of Manchester, Harvard University, Neuropsychologia, and the USA, respectively.

CONCLUSION

This study revealed publication patterns and emerging trends in the literature, providing a detailed and objective overview of the current state of research on repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for the treatment of aphasia. This information will be of great benefit to anyone seeking information about this field and can serve as a reference guide for researchers aiming to conduct further research.

An Integrated Methodology for Bibliometric Analysis: A Case Study of Internet of Things in Healthcare Applications

This paper presents an integrated and easy methodology for bibliometric analysis. The proposed methodology is evaluated on recent research activities to highlight the role of the Internet of Things in healthcare applications. Different tools are used for bibliometric studies to explore the breadth and depth of different research areas. However, these Methods consider only the Web of Science or Scopus data for bibliometric analysis. Furthermore, bibliometric analysis has not been fully utilised to examine the capabilities of the Internet of Things for medical devices and their applications. There is a need for an easy methodology to use for a single integrated analysis of data from many sources rather than just the Web of Science or Scopus. A few bibliometric studies merge the Web of Science and Scopus to conduct a single integrated piece of research. This paper presents a methodology that could be used for a single bibliometric analysis across multiple databases. Three freely available tools, Excel, Perish or Publish and the R package Bibliometrix, are used for the purpose. The proposed bibliometric methodology is evaluated for studies related to the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and its applications in healthcare settings. An inclusion/exclusion criterion is developed to explore relevant studies from the seven largest databases, including Scopus, Web of Science, IEEE, ACM digital library, PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar. The study focuses on factors such as the number of publications, citations per paper, collaborative research output, h-Index, primary research and healthcare application areas. Data for this study are collected from the seven largest academic databases for 2012 to 2022 related to IoMT and their applications in healthcare. The bibliometric data analysis generated different research themes within IoMT technologies and their applications in healthcare research. The study has also identified significant research areas in this field. The leading research countries and their contributions are another output from the data analysis. Finally, future research directions are proposed for researchers to explore this area in further detail.
