Abstract
The secondary organic aerosol (SOA) yield of toluene photooxidation was reported to substantially higher than that of trimethylbenzene due to the effect of the number of methyl substituents. However, the intrinsic mechanism for this disparity is not clear enough. In this study, a highly-sensitive thermal-desorption photoinduced associative ionization mass spectrometer (TD-PAI-MS) was used to real-time characterize the molecular composition and its evolution of the SOA generated from the photooxidation of toluene and 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene (1,2,3-TMB) in a smog chamber. In the new particle formation (NPF) stage, toluene generated more variety of nucleation precursors, such as benzaldehyde (MW 106) and benzoic acid (MW 122), resulting in a much higher nucleation rate and SOA number concentration. In the SOA growth/aging stage, the key SOA components of toluene were mainly dialdehydes, e.g., 2-oxopropanedial (MW 86) and 4-oxopent-2-enedial (MW 112), which played an important role in the formation of highly oxidized species (HOS) through oligomerization or cyclization reactions. In contrast, due to the presence of more methyl groups, 1,2,3-TMB was inclined to produce ketones, e.g., 2,3-butanedione (MW 86) and 3-methyl-4-oxopent-2-enal (MW 112), which would be cleaved into high-volatility low molecular compounds, e.g., acetic acid, through fragmentation. Taken together, relative to 1,2,3-TMB, the higher nucleation rate during NPF and the significant oligomerization/functionalization process during SOA growth are thought to be the major reasons resulting in the higher SOA yield of toluene. This work provides a reference for the insight into the different SOA yields of monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (MAHs) through further revealing the SOA formation mechanism during toluene and 1,2,3-TMB photooxidation.

Abstract
Due to the environmental protection of electric buses, they are gradually replacing traditional fuel buses. Several previous studies have found that accidents related to electric vehicles are linked to Unintended Acceleration (UA), which is mostly caused by the driver pressing the wrong pedal. Therefore, this study proposed a Model for Detecting Pedal Misapplication in Electric Buses (MDPMEB). In this work, natural driving experiments for urban electric buses and pedal misapplication simulation experiments were carried out in a closed field; furthermore, a phase space reconstruction method was introduced, based on chaos theory, to map sequence data to a high-dimensional space in order to produce normal braking and pedal misapplication image datasets. Based on these findings, a modified Swin Transformer network was built. To prevent the model from overfitting when considering small sample data and to improve the generalization ability of the model, it was pre-trained using a publicly available dataset; moreover, the weights of the prior knowledge model were loaded into the model for training. The proposed model was also compared to machine learning and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) algorithms. This study showed that this model was able to detect normal braking and pedal misapplication behavior accurately and quickly, and the accuracy rate on the test dataset is 97.58%, which is 9.17% and 4.5% higher than the machine learning algorithm and CNN algorithm, respectively.

Abstract
Determination of dominant chemical pathways toward the formation of nocturnal secondary organic aerosols (SOA) remains ambiguous by which nitrogen oxides (NOx) always affect oxidation of volatile alkenes. Here, comprehensive chamber simulations on dark isoprene ozonolysis were conducted under different nitrogen dioxides (NO2) mixing ratios to exam multiple functionalized isoprene oxidation products. Aside from that the oxidation processes were concurrently driven by nitrogen radical (NO3) and small hydroxyl radicals (OH), ozone (O3) cycloaddition at isoprene was launched initially regardless of NO2 to rapidly form first-generation oxidation products, i.e., carbonyls and Criegee intermediates (CI) referred to carbonyl oxides. They could further undergo complicated self- and cross-reactions to produce alkylperoxy radicals (RO2). Corresponding to yields of the C5H10O3 tracer, weak OH pathway at night was credited to ozonolysis of isoprene but suppressed by unique NO3 chemistry. Following the ozonolysis of isoprene, NO3 played a crucial supplementary role in nighttime SOA formation. The ensuing production of gas-phase nitrooxy carbonyls (the first-generation nitrates) became dominant in the production of a sizeable pool of organic nitrates (RO2NO2). By contrast, isoprene dihydroxy dinitrates (C5H10N2O8) were outstanding with the elevated NO2, related to typical second-generation nitrates. As such, the yielding number concentrations of dark SOA were promoted to approximately 1.8 × 104 cm-3 but presented a nonlinear relation with excess high-NO2 condition. This study provides valuable insights into importance of multifunctional organic compounds from alkene oxidation to constitute nighttime SOA.

Abstract
The broad application of plastic products has resulted in a considerable release of microplastics (MPs) into the ecosystem. While MPs in other environmental matrices (e.g., soil and water) have been studied for a long time, the atmospheric fine particulate matter (PM2.5)-bound MPs are rarely investigated due to the lack of an appropriate analytical approach. The prevalently used visual and spectroscopic means (e.g., optical microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy) suffer from obvious drawbacks that cannot precisely detect MPs of tiny sizes and provide quantitative information. In the present study, a novel strategy that does not require sample pretreatment was developed to first effectuate accurate quantification of polyethylene MP (PE-MP) in PM2.5 based on pyrolysis-gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (Pyr-GC-MS/MS). It featured acceptable recoveries (97%-110%), high sensitivity (LOD = 1 pg), and qualified precisions (RSD of 3%-13%). Employing this approach, for the first time, exact atmospheric concentrations of PE-MPs in PM2.5 from megacities in North (Zhengzhou and Taiyuan) and South (Guangzhou) China were obtained, and relatively serious pollution was found in Taiyuan. The 100% sample detection rates also suggested the widespread occurrence and possible human exposure risks of PM2.5-bound PE-MPs. In brief, the new strategy could conduct direct, sensitive, and accurate quantification of PE-MP in PM2.5, favoring further studies of environmental fates, distributions, and toxicities of atmospheric MPs.

Abstract
Intermediate-volatility organic compounds (IVOCs) emitted from vehicles are generally in the gas phase but may partly partition into particle phase when measured under ambient temperature. To have a complete and accurate picture of IVOC emissions from vehicles, gas- and particle-phase IVOCs from a fleet of gasoline and diesel vehicles were simultaneously characterized by dynamometer testing in Guangzhou, China. The total IVOC emission factors of the diesel vehicles were approximately 16 times those of the gasoline vehicles, and IVOCs were mainly concentrated in the particle phase in the form of the unresolved complex mixture (UCM). The chemical compositions and volatility distributions of the gas-phase IVOCs differed much between gasoline and diesel vehicles, but were similar to those of their respective fuel content. This indicated that vehicle fuel is the main origin for the gas-phase IVOC emissions from vehicles. In comparison, the chemical compositions of the particle-phase IVOCs from gasoline and diesel vehicles were similar and close to lubricating oil content, implying that lubricating oil plays an important role in contributing to particle-phase IVOCs. The highest IVOC fraction in the particle phase occurred from B16-B18 volatility bins, overall accounting for more than half of the particle-phase IVOCs for both the gasoline and diesel vehicles. A conceptual model was developed to articulate the distributions of lubricating oil contents and their evaporation and nucleation/adsorption capabilities in the different volatility bins. The IVOCs-produced secondary organic aerosol (SOA) were 1.4-2.6 and 3.9-11.7 times POAs emitted from the gasoline and diesel vehicles, respectively. The tightening of emission standards had not effectively reduced IVOC emissions and the SOA production until the implementation of China VI emission standard. This underscores the importance of accelerating the promotion of the latest emission standard to alleviate pollution from vehicles in China.

Abstract
In this paper, the gas pollutants in motor vehicle exhaust are taken as the research object. The diagnostic index system of motor vehicle gas pollutants on environmental pollution is constructed, based on the environmental pollution caused by motor vehicle exhaust. The emission intensity of various types of vehicles was studied. The least-square method is used to construct the diagnostic functions of different types of vehicle gas pollutants; the vehicle emission factors of different types of motor vehicle gas pollutants are obtained. By exploring the spatial-temporal correlation of vehicle emissions under traffic conditions, uncertainty mathematical theory is used to establish a spatial-temporal diagnosis model of vehicle gas pollutants on environmental pollution, and multiple correlation coefficients are used to conduct accuracy test. The research results can not only determine the pollution problem of motor vehicle emissions to the environment but also effectively evaluate the emission level of gas pollutants in the exhaust gas of motor vehicles. The application results show that the spatial-temporal diagnostic model of vehicle gas pollutants for environmental pollution has better guiding significance and practical value in solving environmental pollution problems.

Abstract
The accelerating chemical effect of ozone addition on the oxidation chemistry of methyl hexanoate [CH3(CH2)4C(═O)OCH3] was investigated over a temperature range from 460 to 940 K. Using an externally heated jet-stirred reactor at p = 700 Torr (residence time τ = 1.3 s, stoichiometry φ = 0.5, 80% argon dilution), we explored the relevant chemical pathways by employing molecular-beam mass spectrometry with electron and single-photon ionization to trace the temperature dependencies of key intermediates, including many hydroperoxides. In the absence of ozone, reactivity is observed in the so-called low-temperature chemistry (LTC) regime between 550 and 700 K, which is governed by hydroperoxides formed from sequential O2 addition and isomerization reactions. At temperatures above 700 K, we observed the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) regime, in which the reactivity decreases with increasing temperatures, until near 800 K, where the reactivity increases again. Upon addition of ozone (1000 ppm), the overall reactivity of the system is dramatically changed due to the time scale of ozone decomposition in comparison to fuel oxidation time scales of the mixtures at different temperatures. While the LTC regime seems to be only slightly affected by the addition of ozone with respect to the identity and quantity of the observed intermediates, we observed an increased reactivity in the intermediate NTC temperature range. Furthermore, we observed experimental evidence for an additional oxidation regime in the range near 500 K, herein referred to as the extreme low-temperature chemistry (ELTC) regime. Experimental evidence and theoretical rate constant calculations indicate that this ELTC regime is likely to be initiated by H abstraction from methyl hexanoate via O atoms, which originate from thermal O3 decomposition. The theoretical calculations show that the rate constants for methyl ester initiation via abstraction by O atoms increase dramatically with the size of the methyl ester, suggesting that ELTC is likely not important for the smaller methyl esters. Experimental evidence is provided indicating that, similar to the LTC regime, the chemistry in the ELTC regime is dominated by hydroperoxide chemistry. However, mass spectra recorded at various reactor temperatures and at different photon energies provide experimental evidence of some differences in chemical species between the ELTC and the LTC temperature ranges.

Abstract
Shijiazhuang, the city with the worst air quality in China, is suffering from severe ozone pollution in summer. As the key precursors of ozone generation, it is necessary to control the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) pollution. To have a better understanding of the pollution status and source contribution, the concentrations of 117 ambient VOCs were analyzed from April to August 2018 in an urban site in Shijiazhuang. Results showed that the monthly average concentration of total VOCs was 66.27 ppbv, in which, the oxygenated VOCs (37.89%), alkanes (33.89%), and halogenated hydrocarbons (13.31%) were the main composite on. Eight major sources were identified using Positive Matrix Factorization modeling with an accurate VOCs emission inventory as inter-complementary methods revealed that the petrochemical industry (26.24%), other industrial sources (15.19%), and traffic source (12.24%) were the major sources for ambient VOCs in Shijiazhuang. The spatial distributions of major industrial activities emissions were identified by using geographic information statistics system, which illustrated the VOCs was mainly from the north and southeast of Shijiazhuang. The inverse trajectory analysis using Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) and Potential Source Contribution Function (PSCF) clearly demonstrated the features of pollutant transport to Shijiazhuang. These findings can provide references for local governments regarding control strategies to reduce VOCs emissions.

Abstract
1,3,5-Trimethylbeneze (TMB) is an important constituent of anthropogenic volatile organic compounds that contributes to the formation of secondary organic aerosol (SOA). A series of chamber experiments were performed to probe the effects of NOx and SO2 on SOA formation from TMB photooxidation. The molecular composition of TMB SOA was investigated by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization high-resolution quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC/ESI-HR-Q-TOFMS). We found that the SOA yield increases notably with elevated NOx concentrations under low-NOx condition ([TMB]0/[NOx]0 > 10 ppbC ppb-1), while an opposite trend is observed in high-NOx experiments ([TMB]0/[NOx]0 < 10 ppbC ppb-1). The increase in SOA yield in low-NOx regime is attributed to the increase of NOx-induced OH concentrations. The formation of low-volatility species might be suppressed, thereby leading to a lower SOA yield in high-NOx conditions. Moreover, SOA formation was promoted in experiment with SO2 addition. Multifunctional products containing carbonyl, acid, alcohol, and nitrate functional groups were characterized in TMB/NOx photooxidation, whereas several organosulfates (OSs) and nitrooxy organosulfates were identified in TMB/NOx/SO2 photooxidation based on HR-Q-TOFMS analysis. The formation mechanism relevant to the detected compounds in SOA were proposed. Based on our measurements, the photooxidation of TMB in the presence of SO2 may be a new source of OSs in the atmosphere. The results presented here also deepen the understanding of SOA formation under relatively complex polluted environments.

Abstract
Weather and climate change are constant and ever-changing processes that affect allergy and asthma. The purpose of this report is to provide information since the last climate change review with a focus on asthmatic disease. PubMed and Internet searches for topics included climate and weather change, air pollution, particulates, greenhouse gasses, traffic, insect habitat, and mitigation in addition to references contributed by the individual authors. Changes in patterns of outdoor aeroallergens caused by increasing temperatures and amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are major factors linked to increased duration of pollen seasons, increased pollen production, and possibly increased allergenicity of pollen. Indoor air pollution threats anticipated from climate changes include microbial and mold growth secondary to flooding, resulting in displacement of persons and need for respiratory protection of exposed workers. Air pollution from indoor burning of mosquito repellants is a potential anticipatory result of an increase in habitat regions. Air pollution from fossil fuel burning and traffic-related emissions can alter respiratory defense mechanisms and work synergistically with specific allergens to enhance immunogenicity to worsen asthma in susceptible subjects. Community efforts can significantly reduce air pollution, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emission and improving air quality. The allergist's approach to weather pattern changes should be integrated and anticipatory to protect at-risk patients.

Abstract
Traffic vehicles, many of which are powered by port fuel injection (PFI) engines, are major sources of particulate matter in the urban atmosphere. We studied particles from the emission of a commercial PFI-engine vehicle when it was running under the states of cold start, hot start, hot stabilized running, idle and acceleration, using a transmission electron microscope and an energy-dispersive X-ray detector. Results showed that the particles were mainly composed of organic, soot, and Ca-rich particles, with a small amount of S-rich and metal-containing particles, and displayed a unimodal size distribution with the peak at 600 nm. The emissions were highest under the cold start running state, followed by the hot start, hot stabilized, acceleration, and idle running states. Organic particles under the hot start and hot stabilized running states were higher than those of other running states. Soot particles were highest under the cold start running state. Under the idle running state, the relative number fraction of Ca-rich particles was high although their absolute number was low. These results indicate that PFI-engine vehicles emit substantial primary particles, which favor the formation of secondary aerosols via providing reaction sites and reaction catalysts, as well as supplying soot, organic, mineral and metal particles in the size range of the accumulation mode. In addition, the contents of Ca, P, and Zn in organic particles may serve as fingerprints for source apportionment of particles from PFI-engine vehicles.
