Abstract
The relationship between exposure to ambient air pollutants and emergency attendance for upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) remains inconclusive. This study examines the association between short-term exposure to various ambient pollutants and the risk of UGIB emergency attendance. Data on daily UGIB emergency attendance, ambient pollutants, and meteorological conditions in Hong Kong were collected from 2017 to 2022. A time-series study using a distributed lag non-linear model to analyze the data, considering lag days. Stratified analysis was performed based on sex, seasons, and the COVID-19 pandemic period. The burden was quantified using attributable fraction (AF) and number (AN). The study included 31,577 UGIB emergency records. Exposure to high levels of PM2.5 significantly increased the risk of UGIB emergency attendance from lag day 3 (RR: 1.012) to day 6 (RR: 1.008). High NO2 exposure also posed a significant risk from lag day 0 (RR: 1.026) to day 2 (RR: 1.014), and from lag day 5 (RR: 1.013) to day 7 (RR: 1.024). However, there was no association between UGIB and high O3 levels. The attributable burden of high-concentration NO2 exposure was higher compared to those of PM2.5. Males and elderly individuals (≥65 years) faced a higher risk of UGIB emergencies, particularly during cold seasons. Our study suggests that both PM2.5 and NO2 exposure are associated with an increased risk of emergency attendance for UGIB. Ambient pollutant exposure has a stronger effect on UGIB in males and the elderly, particularly during cold seasons.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: The external environment constantly influences human health through many factors, including air quality, access to green spaces, exposure to pollutants, and climate change. Contamination poses a substantial threat to human well-being; conversely, environmental factors also positively impact health. The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of the complex relationship between various environmental factors and human health. While individual studies have explored specific aspects, a broader integrative understanding is lacking. Methods: Through databases (PubMed, Cochrane, Copernicus), 4888 papers were identified, with 166 selected for detailed analysis. Results: We summarized recent research, identifying multiple associations between environmental factors such as air pollution, climate change, solar radiation, and meteorological conditions and their impact on various health outcomes, including respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic and gastrointestinal, renal and urogenital, neurological and psychological health, infectious and skin diseases, and major cancers. We use chord diagrams to illustrate these links. We also show the interaction between different environmental factors. Findings begin with exploring the direct impact of environmental factors on human health; then, the interplay and combined effects of environmental factors, elucidating their (often indirect) interaction and collective contribution to human health; and finally, the implications of climate change on human health. Conclusions: Researchers and policymakers need to consider that individuals are exposed to multiple pollutants simultaneously, the "multipollutant exposure phenomenon". It is important to study and regulate environmental factors by considering the combined impact of various pollutants rather than looking at each pollutant separately. We emphasize actionable recommendations and solutions.

Abstract
The eye is an important and vital organ of the human body consisting of two segments - anterior and posterior segments and these segments are associated with many diseases. This review elaborates upon the various eye-related diseases with their medications and carriers used to deliver them. Delivery strategies include drugs encapsulated into liposomes, polymeric micelles of drugs, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, nano emulsions, and Nanosuspension used to improve penetrating properties, bioavailability, and residence time of the drugs as examples available in the literature. With regard to this, different forms of ocular drug delivery are classified and elaborated. Additionally, the possibility of addressing the physical and chemical complexities of ocular diseases and how they could be overcome with environmentally stable nanoformulations are briefly discussed. Enhanced drug delivery efficiency with various novel pharmaceuticals along with enhanced uptake by different routes/modes of drug administration. Current advancements in drug carrier systems, i.e., nanocarriers, have shown promise for improving the retention time, drug permeation and prolonging the duration of release of the drug in the ocular site. Bio-degradable polymers investigated for the preparation of nanocarriers for the entrapment of drugs and to enhance the efficacy through improved adherence of tissue in the eye, sustained release measures, enhanced bioavailability, lower toxicity, and targeted delivery is applicable. This review covers the introduction of various nanocarriers and polymers for ocular drug delivery with the purpose of enhancing the absorption, retention and bioavailability of medications in the eye.

Abstract
In recent years, a growing number of studies have found that air pollution plays critical roles in the onset and development of autoimmune diseases, but few studies have shown an association between air pollutants and dermatomyositis (DM). We sought to investigate the relationship between short-term exposure to air pollution and outpatient visits for DM and to quantify the burden of DM due to exposure to air pollutants in Hefei, China. Daily records of hospital outpatient visits for DM, air pollutants and meteorological factors data in Hefei from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2021 were obtained. We used a distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM) in conjunction with a generalized linear model (GLM) to explore the association between air pollution and outpatient visits for DM, and conducted stratified analyses by gender, age and season. Moreover, we used attributable fraction (AF) and attributable number (AN) to reflect the burden of disease. A total of 4028 DM clinic visits were recorded during this period. High concentration nitrogen dioxide (NO2) exposure was associated with increased risk of DM outpatient visits (relative risk (RR) 1.063, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.015-1.114, lag 0-5). Intriguingly, exposure to high concentration ozone (O3) was associated with reduced risk of outpatient visits for DM (RR 0.974, 95% CI 0. 0.954-0.993, lag 0-6). The results of stratified analyses showed that the cold season (vs. warm season) were more susceptible to outpatient visits for DM associated with NO2 and O3 exposure. In addition, we observed that an increased risk of DM outpatient visits was attributable to high concentration NO2 exposure, while high concentration O3 exposure was associated with a decreased risk of DM outpatient visits. This study provided a scientific basis for the etiology research and health protection of DM.

Abstract
Evidence suggests a possible association between ambient air pollutants and oral diseases. Nevertheless, information regarding the relationship between air pollutants and pulpitis is scarce and inconclusive. In view of this, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between short-term exposure to air pollution and outpatient visits for pulpitis. Daily data on outpatient visits for pulpitis, air pollutants, and meteorological data in Hefei, China, was collected from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2021. The association between exposure to air pollutants and pulpitis outpatient visits was evaluated using distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM) and a generalized linear model (GLM). Furthermore, stratified analyses were performed by gender, age and season. A total of 93,324 records of outpatient visits for pulpitis were included in this study. The results showed that exposure to NO2, PM2.5, and CO were positively correlated with an increased risk of pulpitis outpatient visits. Each 10 μg/m3 increase in NO2 and PM2.5 concentration, at lag 0-2 day, was associated with a 2.4% (relative risk (RR) = 1.024, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.014-1.035) and 0.5% (RR = 1.005, 95% CI: 1.000-1.010) increase in pulpitis outpatient visits, respectively. With a 1 mg/m3 increase in CO concentration, the risk of pulpitis outpatient visits increased by 9.1% (RR = 1.091, 95% CI: 1.031-1.154, lag 0-1 day). Intriguingly, exposure to O3 was associated with a decreased risk of pulpitis outpatient visits (RR = 0.990, 95% CI: 0.984-0.995, lag 0-5 day). Subgroup analysis revealed that in the warm season, exposure to PM2.5, O3, and CO was related with a significantly higher outpatient risk of pulpitis than in the cold season. Additionally, the influence of PM2.5 and CO exposure at age < 65 years was significantly stronger than at age ≥ 65 years. In conclusion, exposure to ambient NO2, PM2.5, and CO is associated with an increase in pulpitis outpatient visits in Hefei, China. Conversely, exposure to O3 reduces the risk of outpatient visits for pulpitis. Age and season are effect modifiers of these associations.

Abstract
Air pollution exposure is an important environmental risk factor involved in the development of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between particulate matter (PM) air pollutants exposure and the risk of SLE admission in Xi'an, China. The records of SLE admission, air pollutants and meteorological data were retrieved from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, the Xi'an Environmental Monitoring Station and China Meteorological Data Network, respectively. A distributed lagged nonlinear model combined with Poisson generalized linear regression was used to evaluate the effect of air pollution on SLE admission. Exposure-response curves showed positive associations of PM ≤ 2.5 (PM2.5) and 10 microns (PM10) in aerodynamic diameter exposures with the risk of SLE admission. Subgroup analyses showed that PM2.5 exposure was associated with the increased risk of SLE admission in women, age over 65 years old, and during the cold season, and PM10 exposure showed an increased risk of SLE in women and during the cold season, but additional tests did not observe the significant associations of PM2.5 and PM10 exposure with SLE admission between subgroups. In addition, null associations of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), and sulfur dioxide (SO2) with the risk of SLE admission were found. Our study indicates that PM2.5 and PM10 exposures have significant effects on the risk of SLE admission, and early measures should be taken for high PM2.5 and PM10 exposure to protect vulnerable populations, rational use of limited health care resources.

Abstract
Objective Numerous researches have reported the role of air pollution in the development of autoimmune diseases. However, few have evaluated the relationship between inhalable particulate matter (PM) exposure and Sjögren's syndrome (SS). This study aimed to analyze the association between exposure to two particulate pollutants (PM2.5, PM10) and SS-related hospitalizations. Methods Daily data were obtained on PM2.5 and PM10, meteorological factors, and hospital hospitalizations for SS between 2016 and 2021. The daily data on PM2.5 and PM10, meteorological factors, and the number of SS hospitalizations were collected between 2016 and 2021. A distributed lag non-linear model and a generalized linear model were established to explore the association between PM2.5 and PM10 exposure and hospitalizations for SS. Stratified analyses were performed to explore possible gender-, age-, and season-related differences in PM2.5 and PM10 effects. Results Exposure to PM2.5 was related to the evaluated risk of hospitalizations for SS (RR=1.015, 95% CI: 1.001-1.029, lag 3 day), similarly, PM10 exposure had a statistically significant positive association with SS hospitalizations (RR =1.013, 95% CI: 1.001-1.026, lag 3 day). Stratified analyses found that exposure to PM2.5 and PM10 exhibited higher impact on SS-related hospitalizations in female patients and exposure to PM2.5 was also associated with the higher risk of SS-related hospitalizations in patients aged ≥ 65 years. In addition, exposure to PM2.5, PM10 in colder season were more likely to increase SS-related hospitalizations. Conclusion Our findings suggested that exposure to PM2.5 and PM10 were significantly linked to an elevated risk of hospitalizations for SS.
