Efficient nitrophenol reduction with Noria-GO nanocomposite decorated with Pd-Cu nanoparticles

Palladium doped PDA-coated hercynite as a highly efficient catalyst for mild hydrogenation of nitroareness

Hercynite magnetic nanoparticles were produced through the co-precipitation of ferrous and aluminum cations. The surface of hercynite was respectively coated with silica, 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine, and 1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylic acid to provide a suitable substrate for Pd(II) loading, furnishing Pd@Her-TCT-PDA. Subsequently, the introduced Pd(II) was reduced to Pd(0) using NaBH4. FT-IR, EDS, XRD, TGA, TEM and SEM images were the characteristic methods to prove the success of catalyst synthesis. The SEM image illustrated the particles with a nanosize of 25-50 nm and TEM image confirmed the presence of Pd nanoparticles with sizes lower than 2 nm. EDS elemental analysis of the catalyst proved the existence of Pd, Fe, and Al atoms along with the C, O, N, and Si atoms belong to the heterocyclic moieties. VSM analysis clarified a considerable drop in the magnetic properties of the hercynite core of the final catalyst due to its modified surface. TGA curve demonstrated that Pd@Her-TCT-PDA contains 20% organic content, attributed to the anchored heterocyclic ligands. Finally, Pd@Her-TCT-PDA was employed along with NaBH4 as a catalytic system to reduce completely the nitro group of aromatic compounds to their corresponding amines. The recyclability tests showed low drop in the catalytic activity of Pd@Her-TCT-PDA after third run with negligible leaching of Pd NPs.

Bimetallic nanoparticles supported on Ce-BTC for highly efficient and stable reduction of nitroarenes: Towards environmental sustainability

The development of a catalyst with a consistent and clearly defined crystal structure is crucial for establishing an efficient catalytic performance system. This study focuses on catalyzing the reduction of nitroarenes to amino-derivatives in an aquatic environment at ambient temperature, employing metallic (Au) and bimetallic (Au-Pd or Au-Ag) nanoparticles loaded on a Ce-BTC metal-organic framework using a facile sol-immobilization approach. Diverse analytical instruments, comprising SEM, TEM, XRD, FT-IR, XPS, TGA, and N2 isotherm, have been utilized to characterize the synthesized catalysts. Among the catalysts that were fabricated, Au-Pd@Ce-BTC displayed the maximum catalytic efficacy, offering a rate constant (kapp) of 0.5841 min-1, conversion percentages reaching 99.7%, and a KAF of 116.8 min-1g-1. Moreover, it exhibited remarkable recyclability over five consecutive cycles. This catalyst offers the advantages of operating under ambient reaction conditions and exhibiting tolerance to a broad range of substrates containing various functional moieties. The mechanistic understanding of nitroarene reduction and the factors contributing to the superior activity of Au-Pd/Ce-BTC are explored through spectroscopic and porosity analyses. Spectroscopic measurements indicate that the elevated Auo and Pdo/Pd2+ ratio, increased surface area, and the synergistic collaboration of the bimetallic NPs are key factors contributing to the heightened activity of Au-Pd/Ce-BTC. These findings hold significant appeal from both an industrial and academic standpoint.

Synthesis and characterization of Pd0 nanoparticles supported over hydroxyapatite nanospheres for potential application as a promising catalyst for nitrophenol reduction

Nitrophenols, which are defined as an important toxic and carcinogenic pollutant in agricultural and industrial wastewater due to their solubility in water, form of resistance against all organisms in water resources. It is vital that these compounds, which are highly toxic as well as highly explosive, are removed from the aquatic ecosystem. In this paper, we reported the preparation and advanced characterization of Pd0 nanoparticles supported over hydroxyapatite nanospheres (Pd0@nano-HAp). The catalytic efficiency of the Pd0@nano-HAp catalyst was examined in the reduction of nitrophenols in water in the presence of NaBH4 as reducing agent and the great activity of catalyst have been specified against 2-nitrophenol, 4-nitrophenol, 2,4-dinitrophenol and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol compounds with 70.6, 82.4, 27.6 and 41.4 min-1 TOFinitial values, respectively. Another important point is that the Pd0@nano-HAp catalyst has perfect reusability performance (at 5th reuse between 68.5 and 92.8 %) for the reduction of nitrophenols. In addition, catalytic studies were carried out at different temperatures in order to determine thermodynamic parameters such as Ea, ΔH≠ and ΔS≠.
