Abstract
Edible fungi has certain photo-sensitivity during the mushroom emergence stage, but there has been few relevant studies on the responses of Lyophyllum decastes to different light quality. L. decastes were planted in growth chambers with different light qualities that were, respectively, white light (CK), monochromatic red light (R), monochromatic blue light (B), mixed red and blue light (RB), and the mixture of far-red and blue light (FrB). The photo-sensitivity of L. decastes was investigated by analyzing the growth characteristics, nutritional quality, extracellular enzymes as well as the light photoreceptor genes in mushroom exposed to different light treatments. The results showed that R led to mycelium degeneration, fungal skin inactivation and failure of primordial formation in L. decastes. The stipe length, stipe diameter, pileus diameter and the weight of fruiting bodies exposed to RB significantly increased by 8.0, 28.7, 18.3, and 58.2% respectively, compared to the control (p < 0.05). B significantly decreased the stipe length and the weight of fruiting body, with a decrease of 8.5 and 20.2% respectively, compared to the control (p < 0.05). Increased color indicators and deepened simulated color were detected in L. decastes pileus treated with B and FrB in relative to the control. Meanwhile, the expression levels of blue photoreceptor genes such as WC-1, WC-2 and Cry-DASH were significantly up-regulated in mushroom exposed to B and FrB (p < 0.05). Additionally, the contents of crude protein and crude polysaccharide in pileus treated with RB were, respectively, increased by 26.5 and 9.4% compared to the control, while those in stipes increased by 5.3 and 58.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, the activities of extracellular enzyme such as cellulase, hemicellulase, laccase, manganese peroxidase, lignin peroxidase and amylase were significant up-regulated in mushroom subjected to RB (p < 0.05), which may promote the degradation of the culture materials. On the whole, the largest volume and weight as well as the highest contents of nutrients were all detected in L. decastes treated with RB. The study provided a theoretical basis for the regulation of light environment in the industrial production of high quality L. decastes.

Abstract
Pycnoporus sanguineus is a fungus of the phylum Basidiomycota that has many applications in traditional medicine, modern pharmaceuticals, and agricultural industries. Light plays an essential role in the metabolism, growth, and development of fungi. This study evaluated the mycelial growth and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in P. sanguineus fermentation broth (PFB) cultured under different wavelengths of LED irradiation or in the dark. Compared to the dark cultures, the dry weight of mycelia in red- and yellow-light cultures decreased by 37 and 35% and the yields of pigments increased by 30.92 ± 2.18 mg and 31.75 ± 3.06 mg, respectively. Compared with the dark culture, the DPPH free radical scavenging ability, ABTS+ free radical scavenging capacity, and reducing power of yellow-light cultures increased significantly, and their total phenolic content peaked at 180.0 ± 8.34 μg/mL. However, the reducing power in blue-light cultures was significantly reduced, though the total phenol content did not vary with that of dark cultures. In LPS- and IFN-γ-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, nitrite release was significantly reduced in the red and yellow light-irradiated PFB compared with the dark culture. In the dark, yellow-, and green-light cultures, TNF-α production in the inflamed RAW 264.7 cells was inhibited by 62, 46, and 14%, respectively. With red-, blue-, and white-light irradiation, TNF-α production was significantly enhanced. Based on these results, we propose that by adjusting the wavelength of the light source during culture, one can effectively modulate the growth, development, and metabolism of P. sanguineus.

Abstract
The influence of light regulation on fungal growth and enzyme production was tested on endophytic isolates of Fusarium proliferatum (CCH), Colletotrichum boninense (PL1, PL9, OL2), Colletotrichum gloeosporiodes (OL3) and Colletotrichum siamense (PL3). The isolates were treated with blue, red, green, and yellow light, while white fluorescent light (12 h light/12 h dark photoperiod) and 24 h dark conditions were applied as control. Results revealed that coloured light treatments induced formation of circadian rings, while exposure to white light and dark conditions showed less pronounced circadian rings. Growth and sporulation of endophytes were not significantly influenced by light. By contrast, enzyme production was affected by coloured light treatments, notably with red (amylase), blue (cellulase) and yellow (cellulase, xylanase, L-asparaginase) light, resulting in lower enzyme levels for certain isolates. Under control conditions, enzyme production was relatively higher for amylase, cellulase, xylanase (for cultures incubated in the dark), and for L-asparaginase (for cultures incubated in white fluorescent light). Among the endophytic isolates, F. proliferatum (CCH) showed better response to coloured light treatment as higher sporulation and enzyme production was detected, although growth was significantly suppressed. On the contrary, C. gloeosporiodes (OL3) showed better growth but significantly lower enzyme production and sporulation when treated with the various coloured light. This study revealed that coloured light may have the potential to manipulate growth, sporulation and enzyme production in certain fungal species as strategies for fungal control or for harnessing of valuable enzymes.

Abstract
Light affects the morphology and physiology of Pleurotus ostreatus. However, the underlying molecular mechanism of this effect remains unclear. In this study, a label-free comparative proteomic analysis was conducted to investigate the global protein expression profile of the mycelia and fruiting bodies of P. ostreatus PH11 growing under four different light quality treatments. Among all the 2234 P. ostreatus proteins, 1349 were quantifiable under all tested conditions. A total of 1100 differentially expressed proteins were identified by comparing the light group data with those of the darkness group. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses indicated that the oxidative phosphorylation, proteasome, and mRNA surveillance pathways were the most related pathways under the light condition. qRT-PCR verified that the expression of the white collar 1 protein was significantly enhanced under white light. Additionally, glutamine synthetase and aldehyde dehydrogenase played important roles during light exposure. This study provides valuable insight into the P. ostreatus light response mechanism, which will lay the foundation for improved cultivation.

Abstract
Pleurotus placentodes (PPL) and Pleurotus cystidiosus (PCY) are economically valuable species. PPL grows on conifers, while PCY grows on broad-leaved trees. To reveal the genetic mechanism behind PPL's adaptability to conifers, we performed de novo genome sequencing and comparative analysis of PPL and PCY. We determined the size of the genomes for PPL and PCY to be 36.12 and 42.74 Mb, respectively, and found that they contain 10,851 and 15,673 protein-coding genes, accounting for 59.34% and 53.70% of their respective genome sizes. Evolution analysis showed PPL was closely related to P. ostreatus with the divergence time of 62.7 MYA, while PCY was distantly related to other Pleurotus species with the divergence time of 111.7 MYA. Comparative analysis of carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZYmes) in PPL and PCY showed that the increase number of CAZYmes related to pectin and cellulose degradation (e.g., AA9, PL1) in PPL may be important for the degradation and colonization of conifers. In addition, geraniol degradation and peroxisome pathways identified by comparative genomes should be another factors for PPL's tolerance to conifer substrate. Our research provides valuable genomes for Pleurotus species and sheds light on the genetic mechanism of PPL's conifer adaptability, which could aid in breeding new Pleurotus varieties for coniferous utilization.

Abstract
The production of proteases by white rot fungi, such as those of the genus Pleurotus, is related to the degradation of wood proteins, the substrate on which these fungi grow in the environment. From the point of view of production, they are still little explored for this purpose. A selection of agro-industrial residues highlighted corn bagasse as the best substrate for solid-state protease production using the basidiomycete Pleurotus pulmonarius. The enzyme production was maximized through a factorial design, where the enzyme activity increased from 137.8 ± 1.9 to 234.1 ± 2.7 U/mL. Factors such as temperature stability, pH, and chemical reagents were evaluated. The optimum temperature was 45 °C, showing low thermal stability at higher temperatures. The enzyme inhibition occurred by Mn2+ (50.3%) and Ba2+ (76.4%); SDS strongly inhibited the activity (82.4%), while pepstatin A partially inhibited (56%), suggesting an aspartic protease character. Regarding pH, the highest protease activity was obtained at pH 5.5. Partial characterization resulted in apparent values of the KM and Vmax constants of 0.61 mg/mL and 1.79 mM/min, respectively.

Abstract
Light is important environmental stress that influences the growth, development, and metabolism of Hypsizygus marmoreus (white var.). However, the molecular basis of the light effect on H. marmoreus remains unclear. In this study, a label-free comparative proteomic analysis was applied to investigate the global protein expression profile of H. marmoreus mycelia growing under white, red, green, and blue light qualities and darkness (control). Among 3149 identified proteins in H. marmoreus, 2288 were found to be expressed in all tested conditions. Data of Each light quality was compared with darkness for further analysis, numerous differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified and the white light group showed the most. All the up-regulated and down-regulated DEPs were annotated and analyzed with the Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) database. The KEGG enrichment analysis revealed that light stress was associated with primary metabolism, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, MAPK, proteasome, and carbohydrate-active enzyme pathways. This study advances valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the role of different light qualities in mushroom growth and development.

Light conditions affect the growth, chemical composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the white-rot fungus Lentinus crinitus mycelial biomass. Abstract
The mycelial biomass of basidiomycetes is a promising source of compounds and represents an alternative for industrial and biotechnological applications. Fungi use light as information and hold photoresponse mechanisms, in which sensors respond to light wavelengths and regulate various biological processes. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of blue, green, and red lights on the growth, chemical composition, and antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of Lentinus crinitus mycelial biomass. The chemical composition of the mycelial biomass was determined by chromatographic methods, antioxidant activity was analyzed by in vitro assays, and antimicrobial activity was investigated by the microdilution assay. The highest mycelial biomass yield was observed under blue-light cultivation. Many primordia arose under blue or green light, whereas the stroma was formed under red light. The presence of light altered the primary fungal metabolism, increasing the carbohydrate, tocopherol, fatty acid, and soluble sugar contents, mostly mannitol, and reducing the protein and organic acid concentrations. Cultivation under red light increased the phenol concentration. In contrast, cultivation under blue and green lights decreased phenol concentration. Benzoic and gallic acids were the main phenolic acids in the hydroalcoholic extracts, and the latter acids increased in all cultures under light, especially red light. Mycelial biomass cultivated under red light showed the highest antioxidant activity in the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) method showed that all light wavelengths increased the antioxidant activity of mycelial biomass, with the highest value under red light. Moreover, the β-carotene/linoleic acid co-oxidation (BCLA) assay demonstrated that the antioxidant activity was affected by light cultivation. Mycelial biomass grown under all conditions exhibited antibacterial and antifungal activities. Thus, mycelial biomass cultivation of L. crinitus under light conditions may be a promising strategy for controlling the mycelial chemical composition and biomass yield.

Abstract
Submerged fermentation of green tea with the basidiomycete Mycetinis scorodonius resulted in a pleasant chocolate-like and malty aroma, which could be a promising chocolate flavor alternative to current synthetic aroma mixtures in demand of consumer preferences towards healthy natural and ‘clean label’ ingredients. To understand the sensorial molecular base on the chocolate-like aroma formation, key aroma compounds of the fermented green tea were elucidated using a direct immersion stir bar sorptive extraction combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry–olfactometry (DI-SBSE-GC-MS-O) followed by semi-quantification with internal standard. Fifteen key aroma compounds were determined, the most important of which were dihydroactinidiolide (odor activity value OAV 345), isovaleraldehyde (OAV 79), and coumarin (OAV 24), which were also confirmed by a recombination study. Furthermore, effects of the fermentation parameters (medium volume, light protection, agitation rate, pH, temperature, and aeration) on the aroma profile were investigated in a lab-scale bioreactor at batch fermentation. Variation of the fermentation parameters resulted in similar sensory perception of the broth, where up-scaling in volume evoked longer growth cycles and aeration significantly boosted the concentrations yet added a green note to the overall flavor impression. All findings prove the robustness of the established fermentation process with M. scorodonius for natural chocolate-like flavor production.
