Abstract
The purpose of this study is the development of a novel strategy for the determination of Al3+ ions using the combination of dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The method is grounded in the complexation between a novel antipyrine-based Schiff base reagent (EHMP) and Al3+ ions. Aluminum concentrations were detected using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at 260 nm and this technique was optimized using the absorbance value of EHMP-Al complex. pH, mixing period, type and volume of organic solvent, etc. were optimized stepwise in order to find out optimum experimental conditions. The limit of detection and the limit of quantification values for the improved analytical method were to be estimated 0.31 and 1.03 μmol.L-1, respectively. The new strategy was successfully performed to define Al3+ ions in natural water samples with RSD values (84.01-107.71%) and recovery values (0.01-0.09%).

Abstract
The present study aimed to evaluate the acute and chronic toxicity of environmentally relevant concentrations of metals (Mn, Al, Fe, and Pb) in Daphnia magna and the generational transposition of reproductive and morphological damages. The effective concentration for 10% of the organisms from each metal was obtained by the acute toxicity test (96 hours); then, another five concentrations lower than this one were defined for the chronic experimentation (21 days), in which the number of neonates generated by each individual was checked daily. At the end of the exposition, the lengths and number of morphological damages were recorded in each adult daphnid. During this, the molt generated on the 14th and 21st days were collected and cultivated for posterior evaluation of the same parameters. Alterations in the reproductive performance were observed in the organisms exposed to manganese and aluminum (4.0 and 0.5 mg L-1, respectively). Organisms exposed to aluminum (0.05 mg L-1) and iron (0.27 mg L-1) showed a reduction in body length. It is also noteworthy that the molt of these adults and their respective offspring also presented reproductive alterations, especially the molt from the 14th day of lead exposure (0.02 mg L-1) and the 21st day of manganese exposure (4.0 mg L-1). Such effects allow us to conclude that environments polluted by metals can reduce the ability of the species to maintain themselves in the ecosystem. In addition, there is a need to increase the control and monitoring of metals, such as aluminum, which present risks even in low concentrations.

Abstract
Background:
Aluminum Al(III) is the most significant metal in the earth's crust to which
humans are frequently exposed and has several industrial applications. On the other hand, Al (III) has
high potential toxic impacts on some human pathologies like Parkinson and Alzheimer's disease. So,
it is very important to monitor and determine the trace level of Al (III) in various environmental and
biological samples.
Objective:
In the present work, a novel green supramolecular Solvent-Based Liquid-Phase
Microextraction (SS-LPME) procedure has been developed to preconcentrate and determine
aluminum (III) in various real samples.
Methods:
The proposed procedure was based on the application of 1-decanol/THF as a
Supramolecular Solvent (SS) system and quinalizarin as a chelating agent. Al(III)-quinalizarin
hydrophobic complex was obtained at pH 7.0, extracted into supramolecular solvent phase (1-
decanol/THF), centrifuged and then measured spectrophotometrically at 580 nm. The impact of
different analytical parameters on the microextraction efficiency was studied and optimized. The
validation of the proposed preconcentration procedure was checked using certified reference
materials.
Results:
The calibration curve was linear in the range of 2.0-150 μg L-1. The developed method has
preconcentration factor of 40 and detection limit (LOD) was 0.20 μg L-1. The precision of the method
was confirmed with low relative standard deviation (RSD ≤ 1.0%).
Conclusion:
This study explores the effectiveness of quinalizarin for the first time together with SS
to develop green SS-LPME method to preconcentrate and separate trace quantities of Al (III) in real
water, fruit juice, food, hair, and urine samples collected from Saudi Arabia.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) are ubiquitous toxicants with evidence of adverse kidney impacts at high exposure levels. There is less evidence whether environmental exposure to As, Cd, or Pb plays a role in development of chronic kidney disease (CKD). We conducted a systematic review to summarize the recent epidemiologic literature examining the relationship between As, Cd, or Pb with CKD. RECENT FINDINGS We included peer-reviewed studies published in English between January 2013 and April 2018 for As and Cd, and all dates prior to April 2018 for Pb. We imposed temporality requirements for both the definition of CKD (as per NKF-KDOQI guidelines) and environmental exposures prior to disease diagnosis. Our assessment included cohort, case-control or cross-sectional study designs that satisfied 5 inclusion criteria. We included a total of eight articles of which three, two, and four studies examined the effects of As, Cd, or Pb, respectively. Studies of As exposure consistently reported positive association with CKD incidence; studies of Pb exposure were mixed. We found little evidence of association between Cd exposure and CKD. Additional well-designed prospective cohort studies are needed and we present recommendations for future studies.

An accurate and sensitive analytical strategy for the determination of palladium in aqueous samples: slotted quartz tube flame atomic absorption spectrometry with switchable liquid-liquid microextraction after preconcentration using a Schiff base ligand. Abstract
This study presents a green analytical method for palladium determination by slotted quartz tube flame atomic absorption spectrometry (SQT-FAAS) following switchable liquid-liquid microextraction (SLLME). Efficient extraction of palladium was facilitated by complexation with a Schiff base ligand, synthesized specifically for this study. A three-stage thorough optimization procedure was carried out to boost the absorbance output of palladium. Complex formation was the first stage, and parameters evaluated included buffer solution pH and amount, concentration of ligand, and mixing period. The amount of switchable solvent and concentration and amount of sodium hydroxide and acid amount were optimized in the second stage. Optimization of sample and fuel flow rates and SQT parameters completed the third stage of optimization, and all optimum parameters were used to determine analytical performance of the method. The method had a broad linear dynamic range, and the calibration plots showed good linearity with R2 values greater than 0.9991. The limits of detection and quantification of the SLLME-SQT-FAAS method were 15 and 50 μg/L, respectively. The precision of the method, expressed as percent relative standard deviation, was below 9.0% for all measurements. Spiked recovery results performed for a palladium electroplating bath solution gave poor results when quantified against aqueous calibration standards. Matrix matching was therefore used to improve recovery results which ranged between 97 and 105% for four different spike concentrations.
