Abstract
High concentrations of copper (Cu2+) pose a great threat to aquatic animals. However, the mechanisms underlying the response of crustaceans to Cu2+ exposure have not been well studied. Therefore, we investigated the alterations of physiological and molecular parameters in Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) after Cu2+ exposure. The crabs were exposed to 0 (control), 0.04, 0.18, and 0.70 mg/L of Cu2+ for 5 days, and the hemolymph, hepatopancreas, gills, and muscle were sampled. The results showed that Cu2+ exposure decreased the antioxidative capacity and promoted lipid peroxidation in different tissues. Apoptosis was induced by Cu2+ exposure, and this activation was associated with the mitochondrial and ERK pathways in the hepatopancreas. ER stress-related genes were upregulated in the hepatopancreas but downregulated in the gills at higher doses of Cu2+. Autophagy was considerably influenced by Cu2+ exposure, as evidenced by the upregulation of autophagy-related genes in the hepatopancreas and gills. Cu2+ exposure also caused an immune response in different tissues, especially the hepatopancreas, where the TLR2-MyD88-NF-κB pathway was initiated to mediate the inflammatory response. Overall, our results suggest that Cu2+ exposure induces oxidative stress, ER stress, apoptosis, autophagy, and immune response in E. sinensis, and the toxicity may be implicated following the activation of the ERK, AMPK, and TLR2-MyD88-NF-κB pathways.

Abstract
As an important chemical fertilizer, urea can greatly increase crop yields, but it also has negative effects on beneficial arthropods in the agricultural field, such as spiders. Here, we reported that urea application reduced the reproductive performance in Pardosa pseudoannulata, a dominant species of spider in rice fields, which preys on a range of insect pests, based on both field and laboratory studies. In a field test, urea application significantly reduced the egg production of adult and subadult females collected from the urea-treated fields. A laboratory test was set up to further evaluate the impact of urea application on P. pseudoannulata reproduction. In consistent with field test results, the spiders treated by urea for 14 d and 28 d had lower reproduction ability than their control counterparts, with regard to the mating rate, egg production, and egg hatchability. The transcriptomic sequencing of individuals treated by urea for 28 d showed that urea application caused a number of differentially expressed transcripts with several downregulated unigenes related to basic enzymes and several upregulated unigenes involved in stress resistance. The knockdown of a metalloproteinase gene caused a significant decrease in egg production, and the silencing of a carboxylesterase gene significantly reduced both the egg production and egg hatchability. Taken together, the present study found that urea application reduced P. pseudoannulata reproduction ability and the negative impact partially resulted from the downregulation of certain basic enzyme genes. The study provided a fresh view of fertilizers on beneficial arthropods with great potential in the protection of P. pseudoannulata in fields.

Abstract
We aim at evaluating the toxicity of naturally-aged polystyrene microplastics (MPs) in Danio rerio at intermediate development stage. Animal models were stactically exposed to 4 × 104 and 4 × 106 microparticles/m3 for five days - this concentration is environmentally relevant. We evaluated MP's impact on animals' nutritional status and REDOX balance, as well as its potential neuro- and cytotoxic action on them. Initially, MPs did not induce any change in total carbohydrates, triglycerides and total cholesterol levels. MP accumulation was associated with oxidative stress induction, which was inferred by the nitrite and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances levels. Furthermore, we observed that such stress was not counterbalanced by increase in the assessed enzymatic (total glutathione, catalase and superoxide dismutase) and non-enzymatic (total thiols, reduced glutathione and DPPH radical scavenging activity) antioxidants. The association between high acetylcholinesterase activity and numerical changes in neuroblasts distributed on animals' body surface confirmed MP's neurotoxic potential. MP's ability to induce apoptosis and necrosis processes in animals' erythrocytes suggested its cytotoxic action; therefore, the present study is pioneer in providing insight on how MPs can affect young freshwater fish at environmental concentrations. It is essential knowing the magnitude of these pollutants' impact on the ichthyofauna.

Abstract
Copper (Cu) is a common environmental pollutant in nature. Cu-poisoning can cause liver damage and erythrocytes hemolysis. To evaluate the effect of CuSO4 poisoning on the morphological and functional characteristics of goat red blood cells. Five 10-14-month-old goats were selected for jugular vein blood sampling to obtain erythrocytes, and then the erythrocytes were processed with different concentrations (0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 μmol/L) of CuSO4 for 48 h, and 40 μmol/L doses CuSO4 incubated for different time (12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 h) to process erythrocytes. We observed the changes in erythrocyte morphology through scanning electron microscopy, and detected the antioxidant function and activities of three ATPases. Additionally, biological properties were examined from the perspectives of phospholipids and membrane protein components, permeability fragility, and fluidity in erythrocytes. We found that after CuSO4 treatment, the antioxidant capacity of erythrocytes decreased, which was manifested as increased MDA content and decreased CuZn-SOD and GSH-Px activities (p < 0.05). In addition, we also found that erythrocyte fluidity decreased, osmotic fragility increased, membrane phospholipid percentage and protein composition changes abnormally, and Na+/K+-ATPase, Mg2+-ATPase and Ca2+-ATPase activities decreased (p < 0.05). From the results, it can be concluded that CuSO4 exposure causes hemolysis of goat erythrocytes through oxidative stress to the structure and function of erythrocytes, showing a dose-time effect.
