Facile Synthesis of Thermoplastic Polyamide Elastomers Based on Amorphous Polyetheramine with Damping Performance. Polymers (Basel) 2021; 13:polym13162645. Abstract
Novel thermoplastic polyamide elastomers (TPAEs) consisting of long-chain semicrystalline polyamide 1212 (PA1212) and amorphous polyetheramine were synthesized via one-pot melt polycondensation. The method provides accessible routes to prepare TPAEs with a high tolerance of compatibility between polyamide and polyether oligomers compared with the traditional two-step method. These TPAEs with 10 wt % to 76 wt % of soft content were obtained by reaction of dodecanedioic acid, 1,12-dodecanediamine, and poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) diamine. The structure–property relationships of TPAEs were systematically studied. The chemical structure and the morphologic analyses have revealed that microphase separation occurs in the amorphous region. The TPAEs that have long-chain PPG segments consist of a crystalline polyamide domain, amorphous polyamide-rich domain, and amorphous polyetheramine-rich domain, while the ones containing short-chain PPG segments comprise of a crystalline polyamide domain and miscible amorphous polyamide phase and amorphous polyetheramine phase due to the compatibility between short-chain polyetheramine and amorphous polyamide. These novel TPAEs show good damping performance at low temperature, especially the TPAEs that incorporated 76 wt % and 62 wt % of PPG diamine. The TPAEs exhibit high elastic properties and low residual strain at room temperature. They are lightweight with density between 1.01 and 1.03 g/cm3. The long-chain TPAEs have well-balanced properties of low density, high elastic return, and high shock-absorbing ability. This work provides a route to expand TPAEs to damping materials with special application for sports equipment used in extremely cold conditions such as ski boots.

Abstract
In this study, a series of chitosan-sepiolite (CS-SEP) nanocomposites films were prepared by using a conventional solution casting method. The effect of sepiolite on physicochemical and biological properties of the prepared nanocomposite films was studied by various techniques such as Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and x-ray diffraction (XRD) to name a few. In WCA measurements, the decrease of contact angle from 78.51° (CS) to 71.29° (CS7SEP3) reaffirms the water holding nature of sepiolite, which enables to create moist environment essentially required for wound healing. Further, addition of sepiolite tremendously increased WVTR, folding endurance, porosity, and blood clotting ability of the prepared nanocomposites. Furthermore, CS-SEP nanocomposite films exhibit better antibacterial activity than that of chitosan against gram positive (B. subtilis) and gram negative bacteria (E. coli). Moreover, the percentage of hemolysis and degradation study indicated that the prepared nanocomposite films were non-hemolytic in nature and decomposed nearly 40% in four weeks. In addition, cytotoxicity assay showed that the prepared nanocomposite film i.e. CS7SEP3 exhibited better cell viability and cell proliferation rate against L929 mouse fibroblast cells as compared to CS and hence, the prepared nanocomposite film can be used as a promising candidate for wound management.

Abstract
Abstract
Binary fillers-filled silicone rubber (SR) matrix composites are prepared to improve the thermal and mechanical properties of SR as a lightweight thermal insulating material. Sepiolite and hollow glass microspheres (HGMs) can be evenly dispersed in SR matrix to obtain SR/sepiolite/HGM composites with superior performances at amounts of around 7.5 parts per hundreds of rubber (phr) and 20 phr, respectively, as observed from scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The density of the composites increases slightly with the addition of sepiolite in a linear trend, while the addition of HGMs results in the abrupt reduction in density lower than 0.7 g/cm3. Sepiolite exhibits a strengthening effect in the SR matrix; however, the addition of HGMs in this matrix slightly enhances the stress of the composite; its maximum elongation at break can increase up to 300%. The addition of sepiolite and HGMs improves the initial decomposition temperatures of SR composites a little; the excellent thermal insulating effect provided by HGMs is further verified by their significant decrease in thermal conductivity at 200°C, providing the facts that these SR/sepiolite/HGM composites can be used as lightweight materials for thermal insulating purposes.

Abstract
This chapter is focused on functional nanocomposites based on the use of the microfibrous clays sepiolite and palygorskite as efficient fillers for diverse types of polymer matrices, from typical thermoplastics to biopolymers. The main features that govern the interaction between the silicates and the polymer matrix are discussed. The introduction addresses the structural and textural features of the fibrous silicates, as well as the possible synthetic approaches to increase the compatibility of these nanofillers with the polymeric matrix. Additionally, these clays can be easily functionalized through their surface silanol groups based on chemical reactions or by anchoring of nanoparticles. This allows for the preparation of a wide variety of functional polymer–clay nanocomposites. Thereafter, some relevant examples of nanocomposites derived from conventional polymers are reported, as well as of those based on polymers that exhibit electrical conductivity. Lastly, selected works employing sepiolite or palygorskite as fillers in polymeric matrixes of natural origin are discussed, showing the wide application of these resulting nanocomposites as bioplastics, as well as in biomedicine, environmental remediation and the development of sensor devices.
