The synthesis and properties of silicon-containing arylacetylene resins with rigid-rod 2,5-diphenyl-[1,3,4]-oxadiazole moieties

A high-performance silicon-containing arylacetylene resin with conjugated naphthalene rings

2,7-Diphenyloxynaphthalene with large conjugated structure has been introduced into the main chain of silicon-containing arylacetylene resin and then poly(dimethylsilylene-ethynylenephenoxynaphthyloxyphenylene-ethynylene) ( m-PPNSA-MM) was synthesized. The m-PPNSA-MM resin shows good solubility and a wide processing window. A stable three-dimensional cross-linking network formed due to thermal crosslinking reactions of acetylene groups and intermolecular π–π stacking interactions after m-PPNSA-MM was cured through the process of 180°C/2 h + 220°C/2 h + 260°C/4 h. The flexural strength and modulus of the cured m-PPNSA-MM resin at room temperature are 49.2 MPa and 2.75 GPa, respectively. The cured m-PPNSA-MM resin show high thermal stabilities, the 5% temperature of weight loss ( Td5) reaches 560°C in nitrogen.

Effects of pendant side groups on the properties of the silicon-containing arylacetylene resins with 2,5-diphenyl-[1,3,4]-oxadiazole moieties

Silicon-containing arylacetylene resins with rigid conjugated structures in the main chain often exhibit poor processability. A strategy of improving the processability by destroying the molecular structure symmetry using side aromatic groups was proposed, and the effects of the side groups was further explored. Two novel structural resins with side aromatic phenyl and phenylacetylene groups (PODSA-2P-MM and PODSA-2E-MM) were synthesized by Grignard reaction. The side aromatic groups strongly interfere with the regular arrangement of the main chains, and the crystallinities of the resins decrease as compared with PODSA-MM resin without side aromatic groups. Due to the influence of the side aromatic groups, the novel resins exhibit good processability, low exothermic enthalpy, high modulus and good heat resistance.

Conducting Silicone-Based Polymers and Their Application

Over the past two decades, both fundamental and applied research in conducting polymers have grown rapidly. Conducting polymers (CPs) are unique due to their ease of synthesis, environmental stability, and simple doping/dedoping chemistry. Electrically conductive silicone polymers are the current state-of-the-art for, e.g., optoelectronic materials. The combination of inorganic elements and organic polymers leads to a highly electrically conductive composite with improved thermal stability. Silicone-based materials have a set of extremely interesting properties, i.e., very low surface energy, excellent gas and moisture permeability, good heat stability, low-temperature flexibility, and biocompatibility. The most effective parameters constructing the physical properties of CPs are conjugation length, degree of crystallinity, and intra- and inter-chain interactions. Conducting polymers, owing to their ease of synthesis, remarkable environmental stability, and high conductivity in the doped form, have remained thoroughly studied due to their varied applications in fields like biological activity, drug release systems, rechargeable batteries, and sensors. For this reason, this review provides an overview of organosilicon polymers that have been reported over the past two decades.
