Abstract
A 0.005% and 0.01% morin treatment was applied to treat mango fruits stored under ambient conditions (25 ± 1 °C) with 85-90% relative humidity, and the effects on quality indexes, enzyme activity related to antioxidation and cell wall degradation, and gene expressions involved in ripening and senescence were explored. The results indicate that a 0.01% morin application effectively delayed fruit softening and yellowing and sustained the nutritional quality. After 12 days of storage, the contents of soluble sugar and carotenoid in the treatment groups were 68.54 mg/g and 11.20 mg/100 g, respectively, lower than those in control, while the vitamin C content in the treatment groups was 0.58 mg/g, higher than that in control. Moreover, a morin application successively enhanced the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD), but reduced the activity of polygalacturonase (PG) and pectin lyase (PL). Finally, real-time PCR and correlation analysis suggested that morin downregulated the ethylene biosynthesis (ACS and, ACO) and signal transduction (ETR1, ERS1, EIN2, and ERF1) genes, which is positively associated with softening enzymes (LOX, EXP, βGal, and EG), carotenoid synthesis enzymes (PSY and, LCYB), sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS), and uncoupling protein (UCP) gene expressions. Therefore, a 0.01% morin treatment might efficiently retard mango fruit ripening and senescence to sustain external and nutritional quality through ethylene-related pathways, which indicates its preservation application.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effect of custard apple cell wall polysaccharides-disassembling on postharvest fruit softening and to explore its key metabolic pathways and gene expression. Custard apple fruit was stored at 15 ± 0.5 °C for 12 days, it was found that the decreased significantly in fruit firmness, contents of Na2CO3-soluble pectin, hemicellulose and cellulose, and the increased significantly in water-soluble pectin and CDTA-soluble pectin. The activities of cell wall-degrading relevant enzymes in fruit were improved significantly during storage, including cellulase, polygalacturonase, pectin methyl esterase, neutral xylanase, β-galactosidase, and β-D-glucosidase. The RNA sequencing results revealed 41,545 nonredundant unigenes and 7571 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in custard apple fruit samples. Functional annotation and DEGs data revealed cell wall degradation potentially involved in starch and sucrose metabolism, amino sugar and nucleotide sugar metabolism, galactose metabolism, pentose and glucuronate interconversions. Specifically, two EG and six β-Glc genes controlled the cellulose decomposition, and one β-xyl and one GATU genes involved in the degradation of hemicellulose, and two PME, one Pel, and four PG genes were the major regulators of pectin disassembling. These results provide a molecular foundation for explaining fruit softening and extending shelf life of custard apple.

Abstract
γ-Irradiation was effective to modify soluble dietary fiber of navel orange peel (OSDF). γ-Irradiation could modify the chemical structure of OSDF. γ-Irradiation could improve the bioactivities of OSDF. The molecular weight profile of OSDF was modified by γ-irradiation.
Soluble dietary fibers are widely used in functional food. In this work, the effects of γ-irradiation on molecular weight, structure, physicochemical properties and bioactivities of soluble dietary fiber in navel orange peel (OSDF) were investigated. Γ-irradiation enhanced the extraction yield of OSDF. The molar ratio of glucose and galacturonic acid was increased. The molecular weight profile of OSDF was modified. Γ-irradiation (3–6 kGy) improved the water holding capacity, water swelling capacity, oil holding capacity, cation-exchange capacity, nitrite adsorption capacity and total antioxidant capacity of OSDF. Glucose adsorption capacity and bifidobacterium proliferation capacity of OSDF were improved in a dose-dependent behaviour. Moreover, γ-irradiation promoted the cracking of microstructure. FT-IR spectra showed that more carboxyl groups were newly formed by γ-irradiation. These findings indicated that γ-irradiation treatment was an efficient technique for improving physicochemical properties and health benefits.

Abstract
Ganoderma lucidum spore is widely accepted as functional food. Polysaccharides are the predominant bioactive components in G. lucidum spore and contribute much to its health benefits. However, their structural characteristics remain unclear. In this work, water-soluble polysaccharides (GLSP) were obtained by hot water extraction. Three monosaccharides, including arabinose (Ara), glucose (Glc) and galactose (Gal), were presented in GLSP. 1D and 2D NMR data revealed that GLSP were composed mainly by two polysaccharides, β-glucan and arabinogalactan. The arabinogalactan had a backbone of galactan with Araf in the side chain. β-Glucan was the dominant polysaccharide in G. lucidum spore. The molecular weight was measured. GLSP could induce IEC-6 cells proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, GLSP possessed a strong anti-inflammatory activity through inhibiting the overproduction of NO and pro-inflammatory cytokines, like interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) induced by LPS. These results implied the potential of GLSP on gut barrier protection.

Abstract
The huge economic loss of citrus fruit after harvest called for safe and efficient preservatives, as chemically synthesized agents threatened the environment and human health. Herein a biocontrol fungus Chaetomium globosum QY-1 near the orchard in riparian area was identified to have antimicrobial, antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibition activity, which meets the requirements of an ideal preservative. Metabolite profiling based on bioassay-guided fractionation was carried out, and eight polyketones were determined by MS and NMR. The most abundant CheA exhibited strong inhibition to Penicillium digitatum, the main pathogen caused citrus fruit rot. Among these metabolites, Epicoccone and Epicoccolide B showed higher antioxidant activity, while Epicoccone and CheA had higher tyrosinase inhibitory activity. All the activities were close to or even better than the positive control (Vc; glutathione; Vc and arbutin; Bellkute), implying that the metabolites of C. globosum had comprehensive effects as natural preservatives.

Abstract
With the advances in biomedical technologies, natural products have attracted substantial public attention in the area of drug discovery. Flavonoids are a class of active natural products with a wide range of pharmacological effects that are used for the treatment of several diseases, in particular chronic metabolic diseases. Diabetic nephropathy is a complication of diabetes with a particularly complicated pathological mechanism that affects at least 30% of diabetic patients and represents a great burden on public health. A large number of studies have shown that flavonoids can alleviate diabetic nephropathy. This review systematically summarizes the use of common flavonoids for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy. We found that flavonoids play a therapeutic role in diabetic nephropathy mainly by regulating oxidative stress and inflammation. Nrf-2/GSH, ROS production, HO-1, TGF-β1 and AGEs/RAGE are involved in the process of oxidative stress regulation. Quercetin, apigenin, baicalin, luteolin, hesperidin, genistein, proanthocyanidin and eriodictyol were found to be capable of alleviating oxidative stress related to the aforementioned factors. Regarding inflammatory responses, IL-1, IL-6β, TNF-α, SIRT1, NF-κB, and TGF-β1/smad are thought to be essential. Quercetin, kaempferol, myricetin, rutin, genistein, proanthocyanidin and eriodictyol were confirmed to influence the above targets. As a result, flavonoids promote podocyte autophagy and inhibit the overactivity of RAAS by suppressing the upstream oxidative stress and inflammatory pathways, ultimately alleviating DN. The above results indicate that flavonoids are promising drugs for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy. However, due to deficiencies in the effect of flavonoids on metabolic processes and their lack of structural stability in the body, further research is required to address these issues. ![]()

Abstract
The inhibiting effect of chitosan coating (2%) on the softening and sodium carbonate-soluble pectin (SSP) evolution of sweet cherries during non-isothermal storage was investigated. Chitosan coating significantly extend the softening (6.4% greater than the control group), maintained the SSP content (6.6% greater than the control group), and reduced the degradation of SSP by inhibiting the expression of the paPME1-5 genes, which regulating pectin methylesterase activity of sweet cherries under temperature variation. In addition, the results of methylation and monosaccharide composition indicated that the chitosan coating reduced demethylation of SSP and the loss of RG-I main and side chain neutral sugars. Atomic force microscopy images revealed that the coated sweet cherries contained more linked, branched, and long SSP chains and maintained the width of the pectin backbone (>140 nm). These results indicated that a chitosan coating is feasible to preserve postharvest fruit under non-isothermal conditions.

Abstract
This paper presents a review of the expectations and challenges of using biomass in the prevention and slowing of paraffin wax deposition that takes place during the crude oil production process. The inhibition of the deposition process involves the use of solvents from biomass that are generally available around the crude oil production field. The processes used to scale down the precipitation of wax include mixing crude oil with the manufacturer’s solvent composed of toluene and xylene. The goal is to assess solvents sourced from biomass that are capable to slow down the wax deposition process. Wax appearance temperature is an important characteristic to evaluate the possible wax precipitation of a given fluid. Wax precipitation can be reduced by using some chemical additives, often called the pour point depressant. This additive is expected to be produced from local biomass which can compete with solvents currently produced on the market.
