Abstract
The unique high isoelectric point of lysozyme (LYZ) restricts its application in composite antibacterial coating due to the unfavorable liability to electrostatic interaction with other components. In this work, the antibacterial activity of a dispersible LYZ-carboxymethyl konjac glucomannan (CMKGM) polyelectrolyte complex was evaluated. Kinetic analysis revealed that, compared with free LYZ, the complexed enzyme exhibited decreased affinity (Km) but markedly increased Vmax against Micrococcus lysodeikticus, and QCM and dynamic light scattering analysis confirmed that the complex could bind with the substrate but in a much lower ratio. The complexation with CMKGM did not alter the antibacterial spectrum of LYZ, and the complex exerted antibacterial function by delaying the logarithmic growth phase and impairing the cell integrity of Staphylococcus aureus. Since the LYZ-CMKGM complex is dispersible in water and could be assembled easily, it has great potential as an edible coating in food preservation.

Abstract
Hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL) is used as a food additive in China due to its outstanding antibacterial properties. It is listed as GRAS grade (generally recognized as safe) by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA, US) and has been extensively researched and used in food preservation. And the industrial production of HEWL already been realized. Given the complex food system that can affect the antibacterial activity of HEWL, and the limitations of HEWL itself on Gram-negative bacteria. Based on the structure and main biological characteristics of HEWL, this paper focuses on reviewing methods to enhance the stability and antibacterial properties of HEWL. Immobilization tactics such as chemically driven self-assembly, embedding and adsorption address the restriction of poor HEWL antibacterial activity effected by external factors. Both intermolecular and intramolecular modification strategies break the bactericidal deficiencies of HEWL itself. It also comprehensively analyzes the current application status and future prospects of HEWL in the food preservation. There was limited research on the biological methods in modifying HEWL. If the HEWL is genetically engineered, it can broaden its antimicrobial spectrum, improve its other biological activities, so as to further expand its application in the food industry. At present, research on HEWL mainly focused on its antibacterial properties, whereas its application in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects also presented great potential.

Abstract
Chiral pesticides may exhibit enantioselectivity in terms of bioconcentration, environmental fate, and reproductive toxicity. Here, chiral prothioconazole and its metabolites were selected to thoroughly investigate their enantioselective toxicity and mechanisms at the molecular and cellular levels. Multispectral techniques revealed that the interaction between chiral PTC/PTCD and lysozyme resulted in the formation of a complex, leading to a change in the conformation of lysozyme. Meanwhile, the effect of different conformations of PTC/PTCD on the conformation of lysozyme differed, and its metabolites were able to exert a greater effect on lysozyme compared to prothioconazole. Moreover, the S-configuration of PTCD interacted most strongly with lysozyme. This conclusion was further verified by DFT calculations and molecular docking as well. Furthermore, the oxidative stress indicators within HepG2 cells were also affected by chiral prothioconazole and its metabolites. Specifically, S-PTCD induced more substantial perturbation of the normal oxidative stress processes in HepG2 cells, and the magnitude of the perturbation varied significantly among different configurations (P > 0.05). Overall, chiral prothioconazole and its metabolites exhibit enantioselective effects on lysozyme conformation and oxidative stress processes in HepG2 cells. This work provides a scientific basis for a more comprehensive risk assessment of the environmental behaviors and effects caused by chiral pesticides, as well as for the screening of highly efficient and less biotoxic enantiomeric monomers.

Abstract
Tumor recurrence mainly triggered by tumor residual cells significantly contributes to mortality following breast tumor resection, and meanwhile post-surgical bacterial wound infections may accelerate tumor recurrence due to a series of infection-related complications. In this study, a nano-sensor system, Van-ICG@PLT, is constructed by a membrane camouflage and small molecule drug self-assembly strategy. This nano-sensor harnesses the innate tropism of platelets (PLT) to deliver vancomycin (Van) and indocyanine green (ICG) to surgical incisions, effectively eliminating both residual tumor cells and bacterial infections. Our findings demonstrate that Van-ICG@PLT preferentially accumulates at surgical wound. Under near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation, Van-ICG@PLT exhibits significant cytotoxicity against 4T1 cells. Additionally, it is found to significantly promote ROS production thus inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) growth, underscoring the synergistic benefits of phototherapy in combination with antibiotic treatment. In the 4T1 post-surgery recurrence mice model, Van-ICG@PLT is shown to efficiently ablate tumors in tumor-bearing mice (tumor inhibition rate of about 83%), and it demonstrates an excellent anti-infective effect in mice abscess models. Taken together, Van-ICG@PLT represents a promising paradigm in post-surgical adjuvant therapy (PAT). Its dual benefit in inhibiting cancer growth and promoting antibacterial activity makes Van-ICG@PLT a valuable addition to the existing arsenal of therapeutic options available for breast cancer patients.
