Abstract
Food waste resulting from perishable fruits and vegetables, coupled with the utilization of non-renewable petroleum-based packaging materials, presents pressing challenges demanding resolution. This study addresses these critical issues through the innovative development of a biodegradable functional plastic wrap. Specifically, the proposed solution involves the creation of a κ-carrageenan/carboxymethyl chitosan/arbutin/kaolin clay composite film. This film, capable of rapid in-situ formation on the surfaces of perishable fruits, adeptly conforms to their distinct shapes. The incorporation of kaolin clay in the composite film plays a pivotal role in mitigating water vapor and oxygen permeability, concurrently bolstering water resistance. Accordingly, tensile strength of the composite film experiences a remarkable enhancement, escalating from 20.60 MPa to 34.71 MPa with the incorporation of kaolin clay. The composite film proves its efficacy by preserving cherry tomatoes for an extended period of 9 days at 28 °C through the deliberate delay of fruit ripening, respiration, dehydration and microbial invasion. Crucially, the economic viability of the raw materials utilized in the film, coupled with the expeditious and straightforward preparation method, underscores the practicality of this innovative approach. This study thus introduces an easy and sustainable method for preserving perishable fruits, offering a cost-effective and efficient alternative to petroleum-based packaging materials.

Abstract
A functional textile immobilized by microcapsules of the lime peel essential oils of C. aurantifolia (LPEO) was prepared and characterized. A varied amount of Chitosan/Alginate (CH/AG) ratios, followed by a mass of LPEO and concentration of sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) crosslinker, was optimized sequentially to coacervate LPEO using a Tween 80 emulsifier. An antibacterial assay against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria was further evaluated for the embedded microcapsules. The LPEO (0.2 g) was effectively coacervated by CH/AG (5:3) crosslinked by 2% of STTP to give a yield, oil content (OC), and encapsulation efficiency (EE) of 53.45 ± 2.16%, 65.08 ± 2.60% and 85.04 ± 0.70% respectively. A rough spherical shape of LPEO microcapsules was homogeneously observed with an average particle size of 0.757 mm. An Avrami's kinetic model revealed the release mechanism of the core following zero-order kinetics (k = 1.11 ± 0.13 × 10-9 s-1, Ea = 70.21 kJ/mol). The LPEO microcapsules demonstrated good thermal stability up to 122 °C and maintained 38% OC at ambient temperature for four weeks. A 70.34 ± 4.16% of the LPEO microcapsules were successfully overlaid onto the gauze with citric acid binder and sodium phosphate catalyst. Overall, the immobilized microcapsules exhibited strong inhibition against S. aureus and moderate against S. epidermidis, E. coli, and K. pneumonia.

Abstract
In cold storage, fruits and vegetables still keep a low respiratory rate. Although cold storage is beneficial to maintain the quality of some fruits and vegetables, several factors (temperature and humidity fluctuations, heat inflow, air velocity, light, etc.) will accelerate moisture loss. Biopolymer films have attracted great attention for fruits and vegetables preservation because of their biodegradable and barrier properties. However, there is still a certain amount of water transfer occurring between storage environment/biopolymer films/fruits and vegetables (EFF). The effect of biopolymer films to inhibit moisture loss of fruits and vegetables and the water transfer mechanism in EFF system need to be studied systematically. Therefore, the moisture loss of fruits and vegetables, crucial properties, major components, fabrication methods, and formation mechanisms of biopolymer films were reviewed. Further, this study highlights the EFF system, responses of fruits and vegetables, and water transfer in EFF. This work aims to clarify the characteristics of EFF members, their influence on each other, and water transfer, which is conducive to improving the preservation efficiency of fruits and vegetables purposefully in future studies. In addition, the prospects of studies in EFF systems are shown.

Abstract
Gallic acid (GA), a dietary phenolic acid with potent antioxidant activity, is widely distributed in edible plants. GA has been applied in the food industry as an antimicrobial agent, food fresh-keeping agent, oil stabilizer, active food wrap material, and food processing stabilizer. GA is a potential dietary supplement due to its health benefits on various functional disorders associated with oxidative stress, including renal, neurological, hepatic, pulmonary, reproductive, and cardiovascular diseases. GA is rapidly absorbed and metabolized after oral administration, resulting in low bioavailability, which is susceptible to various factors, such as intestinal microbiota, transporters, and metabolism of galloyl derivatives. GA exhibits a tendency to distribute primarily to the kidney, liver, heart, and brain. A total of 37 metabolites of GA has been identified, and decarboxylation and dihydroxylation in phase I metabolism and sulfation, glucuronidation, and methylation in phase Ⅱ metabolism are considered the main in vivo biotransformation pathways of GA. Different types of nanocarriers, such as polymeric nanoparticles, dendrimers, and nanodots, have been successfully developed to enhance the health-promoting function of GA by increasing bioavailability. GA may induce drug interactions with conventional drugs, such as hydroxyurea, linagliptin, and diltiazem, due to its inhibitory effects on metabolic enzymes, including cytochrome P450 3A4 and 2D6, and transporters, including P-glycoprotein, breast cancer resistance protein, and organic anion-transporting polypeptide 1B3. In conclusion, in-depth studies of GA on food industry applications, health benefits, bioavailability, nano-delivery systems, and drug interactions have laid the foundation for its comprehensive application as a food additive and dietary supplement.

Abstract
Nanofiber packaging has not yet gained practical application in fruit preservation because of some limitations, such as low production rate and utilization, and failure due to poor adhesion to the fruit. Herein, to solve this issue, a novel fruit packaging method based on solution blow spinning (SBS), called in-situ packaging, was pioneered. Specifically, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCH) and polycaprolactone (PCL) were chosen as substrate materials and cherry tomatoes were selected as demonstration subjects. CMCH/PCL nanofibers were deposited directly onto the surface of cherry tomatoes by SBS, forming a tightly adherent and stable fiber coating in 8 min. Also, this in-situ packaging could be easily peeled off by hand. The in-situ packaging was an excellent carrier for active substances and was effective in inhibiting gray mold on cherry tomatoes. The in-situ packaging film formed a barrier on the surface of cherry tomatoes to limit moisture penetration, resulting in reduced respiration of fruits, which led to reduced weight and firmness loss. In addition, metabolomics and color analysis revealed that the in-situ packaging delayed ripening of cherry tomatoes after harvest. Overall, the in-situ packaging method developed in the present work provides a new solution for post-harvest fruit preservation.

Abstract
This research paper focuses on exploring the possibility of delivering macro, micro and trace elements using seed encapsulation through nano-fibres that are known to improve the nutrient use efficiencies while reducing the loss of nutrients. The nano-fibres were developed using an electrospinning machine by subjecting the polymer solution (10% polyvinyl alcohol PVA) loaded with recommended quantities of nutrients under optimal solution (pH, concentration, viscosity) and process (voltage, flow rate, tip-to-collector distance) parameters. The nano-fibres were characterized using SEM, TEM, FT-IR, XRD, TGA and Impedance spectra besides nutrient release pattern by ICP-MS. The data have clearly shown that nano-fibres retained nutrients and released slowly up to 35 days. After the characterization, green gram (Vigna radiata L) seeds were encapsulated with nano-fibres loaded with multi-nutrients and each seed was coated with approximately 20-25 mg of nano-fibres, dibbled into the soil and the physiological, nutritional, growth and yield responses were assessed. Seeds encapsulated with nano-fibres fortified with nutrients (NF) had registered significantly higher crop emergence percentage (C 62%; NF 99.8%), root length (C 12.3; NF 27.1 cm), shoot length (C 28.7; NF 47.7 cm), dry matter production (C 16.2; NF 27.5 g) and grain yield (C 621.6; NF 796.3 kg ha-1). All the parameters measured in nano-fibre encapsulated seeds fortified with 100% of recommended dose of nutrients (NF) were higher than uncoated control (C) seeds but comparable with 100 % conventional fertilizer applied ones (RDF). Such phenomenal increase in growth and yield parameters associated with the extensive surface area of nano-fibres that is capable of retaining and releasing nutrients in a regulated pattern and assist in improving the pulses productivity by achieving balance crop nutrition which alleviating multi-nutrient deficiencies.

Abstract
The current study aimed to develop a sustainable solution to extend the shelf life of chicken meat by developing starch-based functional film embedded with polyphenolic extract of waste petioles of betel leaf (BLP). The results showed that loading of the extract significantly (p < 0.05) improved flexibility, thickness, water solubility, DPPH radical scavenging activity, and UV light protection ability by enhancing intermolecular interactions among potato starch, guar gum, and the extract. The developed film showed optimum mechanical and water barrier properties at a 4% BLP extract concentration computed through TOPSIS method (A multi-criteria decision-making approach). During the shelf life study, the extract embedded film maintained the quality of chicken meat for up to 12 days at refrigerated temperature. Biodegradation time of the extract-blended films was considerably decreased to 14 days from 28 days for the native film, indicating suitable alternative to non-biodegradable film for storing the raw meat.

Abstract
Bacterial and fungal contamination have become major factors in fruit spoilage and damage, posing a potential risk to human health. In this work, polylactic acid (PLA) nanofibers combined with Ag2O-hemp fibers for a good antimicrobial effect were developed and applied to antimicrobial fruit fresh-keeping packages. The results of molecular simulation calculations showed that the strength of hydrogen bonds between Ag2O and hemp fibers reached 45.522 kJ·mol-1, which proved that Ag2O and with hemp fibers formed a stable deposition. The Ag2O-hemp fibers modified electrospun polylactic acid nanofibrous composite film exhibited favorable mechanical properties. The tensile strength reached 5.23 ± 0.05 MPa and the elongation at break reached 105.56 ± 3.95 %. The obtained nanofibrous composite film has good antibacterial activity against E. coli, S. aureus, A. niger, and Penicillium, which indicated that they could effectively inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. The cell experiments proved that the nanofibrous composite film had good biocompatibility with a cell survival rate of 100 %. The experimental results on the fresh-keeping of red grapes showed that the PLA nanofibrous composite film modified by the Ag2O-hemp fibers could effectively prolong the spoilage time of red grapes at room temperature. Compared with the blank group, the freshness period of PLA nanofiber film modified by Ag2O-hemp fibers could be extended for more than 5 days. The hardness of 15 days (1.94 ± 0.19 × 105 Pa) was basically the same as that of 1 day (2.05 ± 0.06 × 105 Pa). The results were superior to commercially available PE preservation films. The above research results indicated that the Ag2O-hemp fibers modified PLA nanofibrous composite film had potential application prospects in the field of fruit fresh-keeping package.

Abstract
Idesia polycarpa Maxim protein was used as a substrate to prepare a novel food packaging material with bioactive functions for encapsulating and extending the postharvest shelf life of sweet cherries. The film-forming solution was prepared from a mixture of Idesia polycarpa Maxim protein, glycerol, and gelatin, and was cast to form a film at room temperature and evaluated for mechanical, optical, structural, crystallinity, thermal properties, morphology, and antioxidant activity. Idesia polycarpa Maxim protein composite film solution was applied as an edible coating on sweet cherries and evaluated for changes in physical and biochemical parameters of sweet cherries in storage at 20°C and 50% relative humidity for 9 days. The results showed that the film tensile strength increased from 0.589 to 1.981 Mpa and the elongation at break increased from 42.555% to 58.386% with the increase of Idesia polycarpa Maxim protein concentration. And in the in vitro antioxidant assay, IPPF-4.0% was found to have the best antioxidant activity, with scavenging rates of 65.11% ± 1.19%, 70.74% ± 0.12%, and 90.96% ± 0.49% for DPPH radicals, ABTS radicals, and hydroxyl radicals, respectively. Idesia polycarpa Maxim protein coating applied to sweet cherries and after storage at 20°C and 50% relative humidity for 9 days, it was found that the Idesia polycarpa Maxim protein coating significantly reduced the weight loss (54.82% and 34.91% in the Control and Coating-2.5% groups, respectively) and the loss of ascorbic acid content (16.47% and 37.14% in the Control and Coating-2.5% groups, respectively) of the sweet cherries, which can effectively extend the aging of sweet cherry fruits and prolong their shelf life. The developed protein film of Idesia polycarpa Maxim with antioxidant activity can be used as a new food packaging material in the food industry.

Abstract
Active research of metal-containing compounds and enzymes as effective antifungal agents is currently being conducted due to the growing antifungal resistance problem. Metals are attracting special attention due to the wide variety of ligands that can be used for them, including chemically synthesized and naturally obtained variants as a result of the so-called "green synthesis". The main mechanism of the antifungal action of metals is the triggering of the generation and accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Further action of ROS on various biomolecules is nonspecific. Various hydrolytic enzymes (glucanases and proteases), in turn, exhibit antifungal properties by affecting the structural elements of fungal cells (cell walls, membranes), fungal quorum sensing molecules, fungal own protective agents (mycotoxins and antibiotics), and proteins responsible for the adhesion and formation of stable, highly concentrated populations in the form of biofilms. A wide substrate range of enzymes allows the use of various mechanisms of their antifungal actions. In this review, we discuss the prospects of combining two different types of antifungal agents (metals and enzymes) against mycelial fungi and yeast cells. Special attention is paid to the possible influence of metals on the activity of the enzymes and the possible effects of proteins on the antifungal activity of metal-containing compounds.

Abstract
Antibiotic monitoring remains vital to ensure human health and safety in the environment and foods. As the most popular detection method, photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor can achieve rapid and accurate detection of antibiotics with the advantages of high sensitivity, easy-to-preparation process, as well as high selectivity. Herein, an extremely-efficient visible-light responsible ZnO/C nanocomposite was prepared and combined with acetylene black (as an enhanced conductive matrix), and the electron migration efficiency was greatly accelerated. Meanwhile, a molecularly imprinted polymer obtained by electrical agglomeration was conjugated as a specific recognizing site for target. Furthermore, the as-prepared rMIP-PEC sensor showed a low detection limit (8.75 pmol L-1, S/N = 3) in a wide linear detection range of 0.01-1000 nmol L-1 for oxytetracycline (OTC), with excellent selectivity and long-term stability. Our work shed light on applying C-doped ZnO semiconductor and molecularly imprinted polymer as photoelectric active sensing materials for rapid and accurate analysis of antibiotics in foods and environment.
