Abstract
The safety limitations of chemical preservatives led to an increasing trend among industries and customers toward preservative-free foods; hence, the necessity has arisen for developing innovative, safe antimicrobial elements to prolong the shelf life. Beneficial microorganisms that are described as probiotics and also their metabolites are increasingly being considered as bioprotective agents. These microorganisms could be beneficial for extending food shelf-life and boosting human health. During distribution and storage (25 °C or 4 °C), they could contribute to suppressing unwanted microbes and then improving food safety and quality. Also, by tolerating the harsh conditions of gastrointestinal tract (low pH (~3), presence of bile salts, digestive enzymes, competition with other microbes, etc.), probiotics could exert several biological effects at the host. Besides inclusion in foods and supplements, probiotics and their functional metabolites could be delivered via edible packaging (EP). Recent studies have demonstrated the strong potential of pre/pro/post-biotic EP in food biopreservation. These packaging systems may show different potency of food biopreservation. Among others, postbiotics, as metabolic by-products of probiotics, have gained tremendous attention among researchers due to their unique properties like presenting a variety of antimicrobial activities, convenience in use in different industrial stages and commercialization, extended shelf life, and stability in a wide range of pH and temperature. In addition to antimicrobial activities, various bio-EP could differently influence physical or sensorial attributes of food commodities, impacting their acceptance by consumers. Hence, this study is aimed at presenting a comprehensive review of the application of bio-EP, not only by providing a protective barrier against physical damage but also by creating a controlled atmosphere to improve the health and shelf life of food.

Abstract
Biogenic amines (BA) are mainly produced by the decarboxylation of amino acids by enzymes from microorganisms that emerge during food fermentation or due to incorrectly applied preservation processes. The presence of these compounds in food can lead to a series of negative effects on human health. To prevent the ingestion of high amounts of BA, their concentration in certain foods needs to be controlled. Although maximum legal levels have not yet been established for dairy products, potential adverse effects have given rise to a substantial number of analytical and microbiological studies: they report concentrations ranging from a few mg/kg to several g/kg. This article provides an overview of the analytical methods for the determination of biogenic amines in dairy products, with particular focus on the most recent and/or most promising advances in this field. We not only provide a summary of analytical techniques but also list the required sample pretreatments. Since high performance liquid chromatography with derivatization is the most widely used method, we describe it in greater detail, including a comparison of derivatizing agents. Further alternative techniques for the determination of BA are likewise described. The use of biosensors for BA in dairy products is emerging, and current results are promising; this paper thus also features a section on the subject. This review can serve as a helpful guideline for choosing the best option to determine BA in dairy products, especially for beginners in the field.

Abstract
This review mainly focuses on the development and application of ordered mesoporous silica materials for solid-phase extraction in recent years. It overviews not only bare mesoporous silica but also the functionalized mesoporous silica with organic groups, molecularly imprinted polymers, and magnetic materials. These mesoporous silica materials were used as the extraction adsorbents in cartridge solid-phase extraction, dispersive solid-phase extraction, magnetic solid-phase extraction, micro-solid-phase extraction and matrix solid phase dispersion. Coupled with atomic emission spectrometry, chromatography or other detection methods, these techniques efficiently extracted and sensitively determined various targets, such as metal ions, perfluorocarboxylic acids, pesticides, drugs, endocrine disruptors, phenols, flavanones, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, parabens and so on. Based on unique advantages of mesoporous silica materials, the developed analytical method successfully analyzed different matrix samples, like environmental water samples, soil samples, food samples, biological samples and cosmetics. In addition, the prospects of these materials in solid-phase extraction are presented, which can offer an outlook for the further development and applications.

Abstract
Indole-3-carbinol (I3C), an important anticancer compound found in broccoli, has attracted considerable attention. The rapid extraction and accurate analysis of I3C in the pharmaceutical industry in broccoli is challenging as I3C is unstable at low pH and high temperature. In this study, a rapid, accurate, and low-cost ultrasound-assisted dispersive-filter extraction (UADFE) technique based on poly(deep eutectic solvent)-graphene oxide (PDES-GO) adsorbent was developed for the isolation and analysis of I3C in broccoli for the first time. PDES-GO with multiple adsorption interactions and a fast mass transfer rate was synthesized to accelerate adsorption and desorption. UADFE was developed by combining dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE) and filter solid-phase extraction (FSPE) to realize rapid extraction and separation. Based on the above two strategies, the proposed PDES-GO-UADFE method coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) allowed the rapid (15-16 min), accurate (84.3%-96.4%), and low-cost (adsorbent: 3.00 mg) analysis of I3C in broccoli and was superior to solid-phase extraction, DSPE, and FSPE methods. The proposed method showed remarkable linearity (r=0.9998; range: 0.0840-48.0 μg/g), low limit of quantification (0.0840 μg/g), and high precision (relative standard deviation ≤5.6%). Therefore, the PDES-GO-UADFE-HPLC method shows significant potential in the field of pharmaceutical analysis for the separation and analysis of anti-cancer compounds in complex plant samples.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have added a vital contribution to food quality and safety with the effective extraction of pesticide residues due to their unique properties. Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) are a superior approach to overcome stereotypical limitations due to their unique core-shell and novel composite structure, including high chemothermal stability, rapid extraction, and high selectivity. Over the past two decades, different MMIPs have been developed for pesticide extraction in actual food samples with a complex matrix. Nevertheless, such developments are desirable, yet the synthesis and mode of application of MMIP have great potential as a green chemistry approach that can significantly reduce environmental pollution and minimize resource utilization. In this review, the MMIP application for single or multipesticide detection has been summarized by critiquing each method's uniqueness and efficiency in real sample analysis and providing a possible green chemistry exploration procedure for MMIP synthesis and application for escalated food and environmental safety.

Abstract
This work describes an ultrasound-assisted dispersive solid-phase extraction method combined with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection (UADSPE-RPLC-PDA) for the determination of nine common biogenic amines (BAs) in canned seafood. The pretreatment extraction solvent, ultrasonic treatment duration, and derivatization conditions were optimized. The method was validated on the basis of the limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), precision, and accuracy and successfully applied to analyze four canned fish, two canned shrimp and four canned shellfish samples. LODs of 0.08-0.25 mg kg-1 were achieved, and the correlation coefficient of determination was 0.9994-0.9997. The method had high precision and accuracy, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) and recoveries of 0.44 to 6.83% and 72.57 to 99.74%, respectively, suggesting the effectiveness of ultrasound-assisted extraction at increasing the solubility of the target analytes in the solvent system and the feasibility of UADSPE-RPLC-PDA for determining trace BAs in canned seafood.

Abstract
There are many critical challenges in the use of primary and secondary cultures and their biological compounds in food commodities. An alternative is the application of postbiotics from the starter and protective lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The concept of postbiotics is relatively new and there is still not a recognized definition for this term. The word "postbiotics" is currently used to refer to bioactive compounds, which did not fit to the traditional definitions of probiotics, prebiotics, and paraprobiotics. Therefore, the postbiotics may be presently defined as bioactive soluble factors (products or metabolic byproducts), produced by some food-grade microorganisms during the growth and fermentation in complex microbiological culture (in this case named cell-free supernatant), food, or gut, which exert some benefits to the food or the consumer. Many LAB are considered probiotic and their postbiotic compounds present similar or additional health benefits to the consumer; however, this review aimed to address the most recent applications of the postbiotics with food safety purposes. The potential applications of postbiotics in food biopreservation, food packaging, and biofilm control were reviewed. The current uses of postbiotics in the reduction and biodegradation of some food safety-related chemical contaminants (e.g., biogenic amines) were considered. We also discussed the safety aspects, the obstacles, and future perspectives of using postbiotics in the food industry. This work will open up new insights for food applications of postbiotics prepared from LAB.

Abstract
In this work, sodium 4-styrenesulfonate functionalized polyacrylonitrile nanofibers mat (SS/PAN NFM) was firstly prepared and applied as 96-well plate solid-phase extraction adsorbent for quantitative determination of seven β-agonists residues in pork samples. The functional modification endowed the SS/PAN NFM with superior adsorption performance for target β-agonists. The adsorption process is spontaneous (ΔG < 0), the initial adsorption rate can reach 6.03-9.09 mg/g/min and the maximum adsorption capacity is calculated to be 48.3 mg/g at 298 K. Moreover, SS/PAN NFM can be reused for 12 times without degradation in adsorption capability. Combined with UPLC-MS/MS, the limits of detection can reach 0.006-0.24 μg/kg, the recoveries ranged from 87.2% to 111% and the relative standard deviations of intra-day and inter-day precisions were in the scope of 1.75%-11.6% and 5.08%-13.5%, respectively. The obtained results fully demonstrated the practicability of this method in preventing the hazard of β-agonists residues.

Abstract
A flower-like Fe3O4/GO/CdSe nanodot magnetic hybrid material was produced and applied to magnetic solid-phase extraction of ibuprofen from pharmaceuticals, water, and urine samples. The material was characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy and SEM-EDX. The pH value, volume of sample solution, amount of sorbent, type and volume of elution solvent and extraction time were optimized. Following elution with acetone, ibuprofen was quantified by HPLC-DAD detection. The recoveries of ibuprofen from spiked real samples ranged between 87 and 109%, and the intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations from 1.25 to 3.02%. The limit of detection, limit of quantification and preconcentration factor are 0.36 ng·mL-1,1.20 ng·mL-1 and 150, respectively.
