Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the test-retest reliability and concurrent validity of 2MST for assessing the physical performance of patients with total knee arthroplasty (TKA). MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-one patients with TKA, aged more than 18 years, of both sexes, and underwent a primary TKA at least six months ago, were included in this study. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and 95% confidence interval (CI), standard error of measurement (SEM), and minimum detectable change at the 95% confidence level (MDC95) were used to determine the reliability of 2MST. In the validity, the correlations of the 2MST between the six-minute walk test (6MWT) and the two-minute walk test (2MWT) were assessed. RESULTS The reliability of 2MST was excellent (ICC = 0.97, SEM = 2.76, MDC95 = 7.6). There was a moderate correlation between 2MST and 6MWT (r = 0.586; p = 0.000), as well as between 2MST and 2MWT (r = 0.633; p = 0.000). CONCLUSIONS 2MST proved to be a reliable and valid physical performance test in patients with TKA. 2MST can be used to evaluate the physical performance of TKA patients.ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT05064943.

Abstract
PURPOSE Long-term musculoskeletal complications represent a growing burden for survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (cALL). This study aimed to describe physical impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions in a high-risk subgroup of cALL survivors of the PETALE cohort. METHODS This cross-sectional study, using observational data from the PETALE cohort, included a subgroup of survivors who presented high-risk criteria for late effects. Outcomes measures consisted of hip magnetic resonance imaging, maximal isometric muscle strength (MIMS) or torque (MIMT), range of motion (ROM), Near Tandem Balance (NTB), 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), Five Time Sit-to-Stand Test (FTSST), and health-related quality of life. Descriptive statistics and regression analyses were performed. RESULTS Survivors (n = 97, 24.2 ± 6.7 years old) showed limited grip strength, FTSST, and NTB performance compared to reference values (p < 0.001). Thirteen participants (14.6%, 18 hips) had hip osteonecrosis (ON) (53.8% male). Higher severity hip ON was found in female survivors (66.7% vs. 22.2%). Survivors with hip ON had reduced hip external rotation ROM compared to those without (p < 0.05). Relationships were found between MIMS and ROM outcomes (r = 0.32, p < 0.01) and with 6MWT (r = 0.39-0.41, p < 0.001). Our multiple linear regression model explained 27.6% of the variance of the 6MWT. CONCLUSIONS Survivors in our subgroup had clinically significant physical impairments and activity limitations, and those with hip ON showed worst hip impairment outcomes. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS These findings emphasize the importance of long-term follow-up including physical therapy assessment to help early identification and management of physical impairments and activity limitations in survivors of cALL.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In middle-aged individuals with early-stage knee osteoarthritis, follow-up with remote rehabilitation methods may provide effective clinical outcomes. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of telerehabilitation on pain, function, performance, strength, proprioception, and psychosocial parameters in patients with knee osteoarthritis. DESIGN A randomized controlled study was conducted with 54 participants with knee osteoarthritis. All patients were randomized into two groups: the home-based telerehabilitation group ( n = 29) and the home-based paper group ( n = 28). The home exercise program and training were provided with an instruction manual to paper group. The same home exercise and education prescriptions were given to individuals in telerehabilitation group via an online platform. Pain, function, quality of life, physical performance, muscle strength, and proprioception were evaluated at baseline and after 8 wks of intervention. In addition, satisfaction and usability were evaluated at week 8. RESULTS Telerehabilitation group demonstrated better improvement in terms of pain, function, quality of life index score, and left extremity proprioception ( P < 0.05). Telerehabilitation group was not superior to paper group in terms of muscle strength and performance tests (except the Five Times Sit to Stand Test) ( P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The home-based telerehabilitation program was superior to the home-based paper group program for pain, function, quality of life, and proprioception in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine whether a patient's pre-operatively administered five times sit-to-stand (FTSTS) test score, when used alone or when combined with previously established predictors, relates to same-day discharge (SDD) after total knee or hip arthroplasty. METHODS This study utilized a multivariate, retrospective, observational design. Electronic medical record data for included participants were used to analyze the relationship between the patient factors (including the novel FTSTS variable) and the SDD outcome. Univariate and multiple variable regression modeling was undertaken to understand the strength of the relationship between the independent variables with the dependent variable. Receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis was performed to determine the area under the curve (AUC) for the novel model. Cut score analysis was performed to establish the score which has the greatest utility for stratifying patients based upon their likelihood of achieving SDD. RESULTS All independent variables related to the SDD outcome with varying effect sizes. The dichotomized FTSTS score related to the SDD outcome with medium effect (Exp(B) = 2.56). The score of 13.6 s was established as the point where the test was most highly sensitive and specific. The combined model including all included patient characteristics had a classification accuracy of 64.7% and an area under the curve score of .724. CONCLUSION The FTSTS score had higher predictive accuracy than all other stand-alone patient characteristics for the SDD outcome.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the feasibility and estimates of effects of a supervised exercise- and education-based prehabilitation programme aiming to improve knee functioning compared with usual care in patients awaiting total knee arthroplasty. DESIGN A randomized controlled pilot study. SUBJECTS Patients receiving primary, unilateral total knee arthroplasty. METHODS Patients randomized to the intervention group participated in a personalized 4-8-week prehabilitation programme before surgery. Feasibility of the intervention and self-reported knee functioning, pain, physical performance and hospital stay were assessed at baseline, immediately preoperatively, 6 and 12 weeks after surgery. RESULTS Twenty patients (mean age 72.7±5.95 years) were enrolled in this study. The personalized prehabilitation programme was found to be feasible and safe, with an exercise adherence of 90%. Significant medium interaction effects between groups and over time favouring prehabilitation were reported for the sport subscale of the Knee Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (F(3/54) = 2.895, p = 0.043, η² = 0.139) and Tegner Activity Scale (F(2.2/39.1) = 3.20, p = 0.048, η² = 0.151). CONCLUSION The absence of adverse events and high adherence to the programme, coupled with beneficial changes shown in the intervention group, support the conduct of a full-scale trial investigating the effectiveness of prehabilitation.

Abstract
The benefit of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is that it alleviates pain caused by osteoarthritis; however, other postoperative effects on physical function are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the differences in physical function, proprioception, muscle strength, postural balance, and walking in older women with and without TKA. A total of 36 participants were included in this study; the TKA group comprised older women who underwent TKA (n = 18) and the non TKA group comprised older women who did not undergo TKA (n = 18). All the participants were evaluated for physical function, proprioception, muscle strength, postural balance, and walking. The outcome measures were compared between the 2 groups using an independent t test. Correlations were assessed using Pearson correlation coefficients. Participants in the TKA group had significantly reduced physical function, postural balance, and walking ability compared with those in the non TKA group (P < .05). In the TKA group, physical function was statistically correlated with proprioception, postural balance, and walking (P < .05); in particular, it had a strong correlation with proprioception (R > .60). In the non TKA group, postural balance was significantly associated with muscle strength and walking (P < .05). In particular, it was strongly correlated with walking (R > .90). This study demonstrated that older women undergoing TKA need to actively perform interventions to improve physical function, postural balance, and walking compared with older women with osteoarthritis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rehabilitation is essential to optimize outcomes after surgical procedures in musculoskeletal disorders. However, adherence to rehabilitation continues to be an important barrier, since compliance with the programs is not always as desired, which may have a negative impact on clinical results. METHODS Randomized controlled trial aimed at to determining the effectiveness of using a virtual assistant (i.e., chatbot) to promote adherence to home rehabilitation. Overall, seventy patients under 75, undergoing total knee replacement, who have a personal smartphone and are familiar with its use, will be assigned into the control (standard care) or the experimental (standard care plus virtual assistant) group. Adherence (primary outcome) will be assessed three months after surgery. The WOMAC questionnaire, knee pain and system usability scale will be also outcomes of interest at three months and one year. Overall, an analysis of variance will look for possible time, group and time*group interactions. DISCUSSION The expected result is to determine whether the use of a chatbot that interacts with the patient can increase adherence to post-surgical home physiotherapy, and result in better clinical results (functional and pain) than standard care. Abstract
This study implemented and evaluated a community-based fall prevention program based on goal attainment theory that targeted older adults with osteoarthritis. The program included education, exercise, and one-on-one counseling during which the participant and the provider set individual fall prevention goals. This study used a nonequivalent control group pre-/posttest design. Participants were older adults in senior centers with lower extremity osteoarthritis. A fall prevention program in the experimental group included group (70 minutes, once/week; education and exercise) and individual counseling (10 minutes, twice/week; emotional support and goal setting). Data analysis was conducted using SPSS/WIN 22.0 with the χ2 test, Fisher's exact test, independent t test, and Mann-Whitney U test. The experimental group experienced significantly fewer falls, less stiffness, less difficulty performing activity; more muscular strength, walking ability, and balance; as well as less fear of falling and higher falls efficacy in comparison with the control group. However, pain did not improve in either of the two groups. Fall prevention programs need to include the active involvement of carers in ensuring environmental changes to reduce fall risks. In addition, health professionals who care for community patients with osteoarthritis could strengthen interactions and exchanges to prevent falls and actively modify home hazards.

Abstract
Postoperative home-based rehabilitation programs are essential for facilitating functional recovery after total knee replacement (TKA). This study aimed to verify the feasibility of applying a wearable motion sensor device (MSD) to assist patients in performing home-based exercises after TKA. The interrater reliability of the measurement for knee mobility and the time spent completing the 5-times sit-to-stand test (5TSST) by two experienced physicians and using the MSD in 12 healthy participants was first assessed. A prospective control trial was then conducted, in which 12 patients following TKA were allocated to two groups: the home-based exercise group and the MSD-assisted rehabilitation group. Changes in knee range of motion, pain, functional score, performance, and exercise completion rates were compared between the groups over two months of follow-up. MSD-measured knee mobility and 5TSST exhibited excellent reliability compared with the physician measurements. Furthermore, patients in the MSD-assisted rehabilitation group reported higher training compliance than participants in the home-based exercise group, which led to better outcomes in the knee extension angle and maximal and average angular velocity in 5TSST. MSD-assisted home-based rehabilitation following TKA is a feasible treatment model for telerehabilitation because it enhances patients’ compliance to training, which improves functional recovery.

Abstract
Objective The 5-repetition-sit-to-stand (5R-STS) test is an objective test of functional impairment- commonly used in various diseases, including lumbar degenerative disc diseases. It is used to measure the severity of disease and to monitor recovery. We aimed to evaluate reference values for the test, as well as factors predicting 5R-STS performance in healthy adults.
Methods Healthy adults (> 18 years of age) were recruited, and their 5R-STS time was measured. Their age, sex, weight, height, body mass index (BMI), smoking status, education level, work situation and EuroQOL-5D Healthy & Anxiety category were recorded. Linear regression analysis was employed to identify predictors of 5R-STS performance.
Results We included 172 individuals with mean age of 39.4±14.1 years and mean BMI of 24.0 ±4.0 kg/m2. Females constituted 57%. Average 5R-STS time was 6.21 ±1.92 seconds, with an upper limit of normal of 12.39 seconds. In a multivariable model, age (regression coefficient [RC], 0.07; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.05/0.09; p<0.001), male sex (RC, -0.87; 95% CI, -1.50 to -0.23; p=0.008), BMI (RC, 0.40; 95% CI, 0.10–0.71; p=0.010), height (RC, 0.13; 95% CI, 0.04–0.22; p=0.006), and houseworker status (RC, -1.62; 95% CI, -2.93 to -0.32; p=0.016) were significantly associated with 5R-STS time. Anxiety and depression did not influence performance significantly (RC, 0.82; 95% CI, -0.14 to 1.77; p=0.097).
Conclusion The presented reference values can be applied as normative data for 5R-STS in healthy adults, and are necessary to judge what constitutes abnormal performance. We identified several significant factors associated with 5R-STS performance that may be used to calculate individualized expected test times.

Abstract
In current clinical practice, fear of movement has been considered a significant factor affecting patient disability and needs to be evaluated and addressed to accomplish successful rehabilitation strategies. Therefore, the study aims (1) to establish the association between kinesiophobia and knee pain intensity, joint position sense (JPS), and functional performance, and (2) to determine whether kinesiophobia predicts pain intensity, JPS, and functional performance among individuals with bilateral knee osteoarthritis (KOA). This cross-sectional study included 50 participants (mean age: 67.10 ± 4.36 years) with KOA. Outcome measures: The level of kinesiophobia was assessed using the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, pain intensity using a visual analog scale (VAS), knee JPS using a digital inclinometer, and functional performance using five times sit-to-stand test. Knee JPS was assessed in target angles of 15°, 30°, and 60°. Pearson’s correlation coefficients and simple linear regressions were used to analyze the data. Significant moderate positive correlations were observed between kinesiophobia and pain intensity (r = 0.55, p < 0.001), JPS (r ranged between 0.38 to 0.5, p < 0.05), and functional performance (r = 0.49, p < 0.001). Simple linear regression analysis showed kinesiophobia significantly predicted pain intensity (B = 1.05, p < 0.001), knee JPS (B ranged between 0.96 (0° of knee flexion, right side) to 1.30 (15° of knee flexion, right side)), and functional performance (B = 0.57, p < 0.001). We can conclude that kinesiophobia is significantly correlated and predicted pain intensity, JPS, and functional performance in individuals with KOA. Kinesiophobia is a significant aspect of the recovery process and may be taken into account when planning and implementing rehabilitation programs for KOA individuals.

Abstract
Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability for the strength and movement velocity of the concentric phase from the five Sit-to-Stand (5STS), using three incremental loads measured by a functional electromechanical dynamometer (FEMD) in healthy young adults. Methods: The average and peak strength and velocity values of sixteen healthy adults (mean ± standard deviation (SD): age = 22.81 ± 2.13 years) were recorded at 5, 10 and 15 kg. To evaluate the reliability of FEMD, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), standard error of measurement (SEM) and coefficient of variation (CV) were obtained. Results: Reliability was high for the 10 kg (CV range: 3.70–4.18%, ICC range: 0.95–0.98) and 15 kg conditions (CV range: 1.64–3.02%, ICC: 0.99) at average and peak strength, and reliability was high for the 5 kg (CV range: 1.71–2.84%, ICC range: 0.96–0.99), 10 kg (CV range: 0.74–1.84%, ICC range: 0.99–1.00) and 15 kg conditions (CV range: 0.79–3.11%, ICC range: 0.99–1.00) at average and peak velocity. Conclusions: The findings of this study demonstrate that FEMD is a reliable instrument to measure the average and peak strength and velocity values during the five STS in healthy young adults.

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the motor and non-motor factors associated with sit-to-stand performance in people with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS). Design: Observational cross-sectional study. Subjects: A total of 88 individuals with MS participated in this study. Main Measures: Standing performance was measured using the five-times-sit-to-stand test (FTSTS). The Berg Balance Scale to assess balance, the 10-Meter Walking Test (10-MWT) was used to assess walking speed; the Patient Determined Disease Steps (PDDS) was used to assess disability level. Furthermore, Brief International Cognitive Assessment for MS (BICAMS) was used to assess cognitive status, Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale (HADS) to assess depression and anxiety, and the Modified Fatigue Impact scale (MFIS) to evaluate fatigue. Spearman correlation coefficient was used to determine the relationship between all these variables and the FTSTS. Furthermore, multiple linear regression was conducted to determine predictive factors of the FTSTS. Results: FTSTS score was correlated significantly with BBS, PDDS, BICAMS, 10-MWT and MFIS (r ranged from 0.3 to 0.52; P < .05). However, there was no significant correlation observed between the FTSTS and HADS-depression or HADS-anxiety. Considering the multiple regression analysis, the following factors were significantly predictive of the FTSTS: 10-MWT, MFIS and the BICAMS-z score (R2: 0.433, P < .0001). Conclusion: The study concludes that sit to stand is multifactorial and is potentially associated with walking speed, cognitive function and fatigue. These factors should be considered by healthcare professionals in interpreting the sit-to-stand performance of PwMS and in designing rehabilitation interventions.

Abstract
Preferred and fast speed sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit (STS) tests are prevalent in literature, but biomechanical changes between the different speeds of STS have never been studied. Understanding differences between these STS techniques will better inform experimental design for research assessing functional ability in clinical populations. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different speeds of STS transfers on lower body and trunk kinematics and kinetics in healthy adults. Nineteen healthy middle-aged and older adults participated in this study. Two different speeds of STS were tested: self-selected speed and fast speed (as quickly as possible). Ten Vicon cameras and two AMTI force platforms were used to collect three-dimensional kinematic and kinetic data. During sit-to-stand transfer, peak knee extension velocity and knee extension moment were significantly increased for the fast speed STS as compared to the preferred speed STS. During stand-to-sit transfer, peak knee extension moment and lower back moment were significantly increased while STS time was decreased for the fast speed STS as compared to the preferred speed STS. Our results indicate that the fast speed STS could be more challenging for participants compared to the preferred speed STS evidenced by greater knee and lower back joint movements. Therefore, fast STS tests should be reconsidered when testing middle-aged and older adults with chronic low back pain and knee joint problems.

Abstract
Total knee replacement (TKR) surgery ameliorates knee function and the quality of life of patients, although 20% still experience dissatisfaction due to pain limiting their function. Radiofrequency Diathermy (MDR) has shown improvements in knee osteoarthritis and patellofemoral pain syndrome. As such, this study aims to assess the effects of MDR in the postoperative treatment of TKR patients. Forty-two participants were allocated to an experimental, placebo, or control group. For two weeks, subjects performed daily knee exercises and MDR, knee exercises and placebo MDR, or only knee exercises. Data from the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) test, Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test (FSST), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC), physical component summary (PCS), and the mental component summary (MCS) of the SF-12 questionnaire were collected. Group-by-time interaction was significant, with favorable results in the MDR group for VAS (p = 0.009) and WOMAC (p = 0.021). No significant differences were found for TUG, FSST, PCS, or MCS (p > 0.05). In conclusion, the addition of MDR to therapeutic knee exercises obtained better results for knee pain than exercise alone in patients who had recently undergone TKR surgery.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the study was to determine the test-retest reliability and concurrent validity of the five times sit to stand test (FTST) and step test (ST) in older adults with total hip arthroplasty (THA). METHODS A cross-sectional and prospective study was carried out with 32 unilateral total hip arthroplasty patients. FTST, ST, and Timed Up & Go Test were evaluated at the first evaluation session. The test-retest reliability was evaluated by performing two repetitions of the FTST and ST. Besides, the functional status of the patients was evaluated with the Harris Hip Score (HHS). The test-retest reliability of the FTST and ST were assessed by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). In the concurrent validity analysis, the Pearson correlation coefficient was analyzed. In addition, the standard error of measurement (SEM95) and minimal detectable change (MDC95) values of the FTST and ST were also calculated. RESULTS The mean age of the participants was 75.4 ± 10.3 years. The ICC score of FTST, ST (right) and ST (left) were 0.987, 0.908 and 0.846, respectively. SEM95 and MDC95 values of the FTST were 1.05 and 2.91, respectively. FTST was correlated with both the HHS and TUG (r1 = -0.522, r2 = 0.730, p < 0.01). SEM95 and MDC95 values of the ST (right) were 0.37 and 1.02, respectively. SEM95 and MDC95 values of the ST (left) were 0.55 and 1.52, respectively. Also, ST (right) was only correlated with TUG (r = -0.654, p < 0.01). ST (right) were correlated with both the HHS and TUG (r1 = 0.503, r2 = -0.806, p < 0.01). The degree of correlations was strong. CONCLUSION The FTST and ST are valid and reliable performance tests in older adults with primary unilateral THA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) is a common musculoskeletal disorder during pregnancy, and functional mobility evaluation is very important in reflecting the treatment effects. OBJECTIVES To investigate reliability and validity of Five Times Sit-to-Stand (5TSS) test in pregnant women with and without PGP. DESIGN A cross-sectional observational study. METHODS One hundred sixty-seven women in the second or third trimester of pregnancy participated in two assessments one week apart. The 5TSS and Timed Up & Go (TUG) tests were used to assess functional mobility, in a randomized sequence, by two independent raters. Time to complete the tests were recorded. Perceived pain and difficulty during functional mobility tests were marked on two Visual Analogue Scales. Following tests of functional mobility, seven clinical tests were used to classify the subjects as with or without PGP. RESULTS The 25% of subjects had PGP. Inter-rater reliability of 5TSS was excellent for subjects with and without PGP (ICC = 0.999, 95% CI = 0.999-1.000; ICC = 0.999, 95% CI = 0.999-0.999, respectively). Test-retest reliability of 5TSS was also very high for subjects with and without PGP (ICC = 0.986, 95% CI = 0.959-0.995; ICC = 0.828, 95% CI = 0.632-0.920, respectively). The 5TSS scores were positively correlated with TUG scores (r = 0.420, p = 0.006 and r = 0.404, p = 0.000, respectively). The subjects reported higher pain (95% CI = 0.322-0.824) and difficulty (95%Cl = 0.500-1.042) during 5TSS than the TUG test. CONCLUSIONS The 5TSS test is a reliable and valid functional mobility outcome measure in pregnant women with and without PGP. Further psychometric properties of the measure such as responsiveness, should be investigated in the future.

(1) Background: We have updated knowledge of the psychometric qualities of patient-reported outcome measures and, for the first time, systematically reviewed and compared the psychometric qualities of physical tests for patients with knee osteoarthritis who are undergoing total knee arthroplasty. This work was conducted to facilitate the choice of the most appropriate instruments to use in studies and clinical practice. (2) Methods: A search of medical databases up to December 2019 identified the studies and thus the instruments used. The quality of the measurement properties was assessed by the Bot et al. criteria. (3) Results: We identified 20 studies involving 25 instruments. Half of the instruments were questionnaires (n = 13). Among the condition-specific instruments, the Oxford knee score, Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcomes Score, and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis index had the highest overall scores. Concerning generic tools, the Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form 36 (SF-36) or SF-12 obtained the highest overall score. For patient-specific tools, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale ranked the highest. Some physical tests seemed robust in psychometric properties: 6-min Walk Test, five times Sit-To-Stand test, Timed Up and Go test strength testing of knee flexor/extensor by isometric or isokinetic dynamometer and Pressure Pain Threshold. (4) Conclusion: To make stronger recommendations, key areas such as reproducibility, responsiveness to clinical change, and minimal important change still need more rigorous evaluations. Some promising physical tests (e.g., actimetry) lack validation and require rigorous studies to be used as a core set of outcomes in future studies.
