Abstract
Objectives: Ginseng has been widely used in fatigue management. However, its efficacy on fatigue remains unclear. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of ginseng and ginseng herbal formulas for fatigue in randomized clinical trials (RCTs). Methods: The authors searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Allied and Complementary Medicine Database (AMED) databases from inception to July 6, 2022. Outcomes included fatigue severity, quality of life (QoL), and adverse events (AEs). Quality of evidence was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. They pooled all included data and performed subgroup analysis by fatigue type, assessment instrument, and ginseng type. Results: The authors included 19 RCTs. Pooled analyses found no significant reduction in fatigue severity with ginseng versus controls (standardized mean difference [SMD]: -0.36, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.82 to 0.11, p = 0.13). In subgroup analysis, there was significant fatigue reduction with the ginseng herbal formula (SMD: -0.39, 95% CI: -0.66 to -0.13, p = 0.004) and chronic fatigue (CF) (SMD: -0.30, 95% CI: -0.56 to -0.03, p = 0.03) compared to controls. Ginseng produced significant reductions in general (i.e., non-disease-specific) fatigue compared to controls (SMD: -0.48, 95% CI: -0.71 to -0.25, p < 0.0001). Ginseng was associated with a trend toward QoL improvement (p = 0.05) and did not increase AEs compared with controls. Effect sizes were small. Conclusion: Ginseng herbal formulas improved fatigue severity compared to controls, especially among patients with CF, but with a small effect size. Rigorous RCTs as well as guidelines for standard ginseng usage are needed to further evaluate the effects of ginseng for fatigue and ensure proper use.

Abstract
Germanium is an essential microelement, and its deficiency can result in numerous diseases, particularly oncogenic conditions. Consequently, water-soluble germanium compounds, including inorganic and coordination compounds, have attracted significant attention due to their biological activity. The review analyzes the primary research from the last decade related to the anticancer activity of germanium compounds. Furthermore, the review clarifies their actual toxicity, identifies errors and misconceptions that have contributed to the discrediting of their biological activity, and briefly suggests a putative mechanism of germanium-mediated protection from oxidative stress. Finally, the review provides clarifications on the discovery history of water-soluble organic germanium compounds, which was distorted and suppressed for a long time.

Abstract
Panax ginseng is a precious and ancient medicinal plant. The completion of its genome sequencing has laid the foundation for the study of proteome and peptidome. However, the high abundance of secondary metabolites in ginseng reduces the identification efficiency of proteins and peptides in mass spectrometry. In this report, strong cation exchange pretreatment was carried out to eliminate the interference of impurities. Based on the charge separation of proteolytic peptides and metabolites, the sensitivity of mass spectrometry detection was greatly improved. After pretreatment, 2322 and 2685 proteins were identified from the root and stem leaf extract. Further, the ginseng peptidome was analyzed based on this optimized strategy, where 970 and 653 endogenous peptides were identified from root and stem leaf extract, respectively. Functional analysis of proteins and endogenous peptides provided valuable information on the biological activities, metabolic processes, and ginsenoside biosynthesis pathways of ginseng.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) has an enormous adverse impact on quality of life and subsequent therapy of cancer patients. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is reported to improve CRF in many systematic reviews (SRs), but the effects are controversial because of variations in the quality and outcomes. METHODS Thirteen databases were searched from inception to September 2022. Only SRs of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. We assessed the quality of included SRs with the AMSTAR-2 tool, the strength of evidence with the GRADE system, the risk of bias with the ROBIS tool, and the integrity of SRs with the PRISMA checklist. RESULTS We included 30 eligible SRs (27 meta-analyses). Based on the AMSTAR-2 tool, 29 SRs were rated as "critically low" quality, and only one was rated as "low" quality. With the ROBIS tool, 19 SRs demonstrated a low risk of bias. According to the PRISMA checklist, no SRs reported all the items, and 10 SRs sufficiently reported over 70%. Based on the GRADE system, 7 outcomes were assessed as high-quality evidence. CONCLUSION This overview demonstrates promising evidence for the effectiveness of CAM interventions in the treatment of CRF in adults. The roles of qigong, music, auricular point therapy, and dietary supplements in CRF need further evaluation. Although findings are mixed, it is recommend to select appropriate CAM to manage cancer-related fatigue under the guidance of physicians. More studies with rigorous methodological designs and sufficient sample sizes are needed.

Abstract
The Nobel Prize Winner (1931) Dr. Otto H. Warburg had established that the primary energy source of the cancer cell is aerobic glycolysis (the Warburg effect). He also postulated the hypothesis about "the prime cause of cancer", which is a matter of debate nowadays. Contrary to the hypothesis, his discovery was recognized entirely. However, the discovery had almost vanished in the heat of battle about the hypothesis. The prime cause of cancer is essential for the prevention and diagnosis, yet the effects that influence tumor growth are more important for cancer treatment. Due to the Warburg effect, a large amount of data has been accumulated on biochemical changes in the cell and the organism as a whole. Due to the Warburg effect, the recovery of normal biochemistry and oxygen respiration and the restoration of the work of mitochondria of cancer cells can inhibit tumor growth and lead to remission. Here, we review the current knowledge on the inhibition of abnormal glycolysis, neutralization of its consequences, and normalization of biochemical parameters, as well as recovery of oxygen respiration of a cancer cell and mitochondrial function from the point of view of classical biochemistry and organic chemistry.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study whether ACT exerts anti-fatigue activity against CRF by inducing skeletal muscle mitophagy via suppressing PHD2 to upregulate the HIF-1α/BNIP3 signaling pathway. METHODS In this study, the molecular docking virtual screening technique was used to screen active components in Cistanche tubulosa that act as potential PHD2 inhibitors; the preliminary verification was carried out by Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technology. BALB/c mice were treated with Paclitaxel (PTX, 10 mg/kg) and ACT (50, 100 mg/kg) alone or in combination for 20 days. Fatigue-related behaviors, energy metabolism and skeletal muscle mitochondria were assessed. Murine C2C12 myoblast was cultured and differentiated; then, a C26 tumor cell-conditioned medium was added to induce cachexia. Intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential, mitochondrial microstructure and function, autophagy, PHD2/HIF-1 and PINK1/Parkin signal pathway proteins were analyzed. Then, interfering RNA technology was used to silence PHD2 and observe the efficacy of ACT. RESULTS We demonstrated that ACT exerted good binding activity with PHD2; ACT administration ameliorated PTX-induced muscle fatigue-like behavior via improving muscle quality and mitochondria function, increasing mitophagy, upregulating COXIV, CytoC, PINK1, Parkin, HIF-1α and BNIP3 expression and inhibiting p62, LC3B, PHD2 and Beclin-1 expression. The protective effect of ACT disappeared after transfection with the PHD2 gene knockdown plasmid Egln-1-RNAi. CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that ACT can improve CRF by promoting mitophagy via suppression of PHD2 to remove dysfunctional mitochondria, demonstrating that ACT has huge prospects for clinical application in CRF treatment.

Abstract
We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the influence of Chinese herbal medicines on cancer-related pressure ulcer wounds, fatigue, constipation, and anorexia. A systematic literature search up to March 2022 was done and 25 studies included 1777 subjects with cancer-related symptoms at the start of the study; 953 of them were provided with Chinese herbal medicines and 824 were control. They were reporting relationships about the influence of Chinese herbal medicines on cancer-related pressure ulcer wounds, fatigue, constipation, and anorexia. We calculated the odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the influence of Chinese herbal medicines on cancer-related pressure ulcer wounds, fatigue, constipation, and anorexia using the dichotomous method with a random or fixed-effect model. Chinese herbal medicines had significantly higher effectiveness in treating pressure ulcer wound (OR, 5.94; 95% CI, 3.94-8.95, P < .001), fatigue (OR, 2.81; 95% CI, 1.78-4.41, P < .001), and effectiveness on treating constipation (OR, 2.59; 95% CI, 1.57-4.25, P < .001) compared to control in subjects with cancer-related symptoms. However, Chinese herbal medicines had no significant effect on treating anorexia (OR, 1.69; 95% CI, 0.61-4.66, P = .31) compared to control in subjects with cancer-related symptoms. Chinese herbal medicines had significantly higher effectiveness in treating pressure ulcer wound, treating pressure ulcer wound, fatigue, and constipation compared to control in subjects with cancer-related symptoms. However, Chinese herbal medicines had no significant effect on the effectiveness of treating anorexia compared to control in subjects with cancer-related symptoms. Further studies are required to validate these findings.
