Abstract
Objectives This study aimed to review and summarize the studies of nurse-coordinated home-based cardiac rehabilitation for patients with heart failure. Methods The review was performed using Arksey and O'Malley's scoping review framework. A systematic search was conducted across eight databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, EBSCO, China Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, and Chinese Science and Technology Journals (CSTJ) Database, and Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, from inception to 30 April 2023. Articles relevant to the nurse-coordinated home-based cardiac rehabilitation for patients with heart failure were included. Results Eighteen studies were included in this review. These studies showed that nurses primarily focused on patient assessment, home-based cardiac rehabilitation planning and guidance, and follow-up. The studies also reported positive outcomes in patient safety, feasibility, and efficacy of the programs coordinated by nurses. Conclusions Home-based cardiac rehabilitation coordinated by nurses is beneficial to patients with heart failure. Future research will explore the potential of nurses in home-based cardiac rehabilitation for patients with heart failure, determine optimal evaluation criteria, and formulate safe, effective, and economical rehabilitation programs suitable for the patients.

Abstract
Heart transplantation remains the gold standard in the treatment of end-stage heart failure (HF). Heart transplantation patients present lower exercise capacity due to cardiovascular and musculoskeletal alterations leading thus to poor quality of life and reduction in the ability of daily self-service. Impaired vascular function and diastolic dysfunction cause lower cardiac output while decreased skeletal muscle oxidative fibers, enzymes and capillarity cause arteriovenous oxygen difference, leading thus to decreased peak oxygen uptake in heart transplant recipients. Exercise training improves exercise capacity, cardiac and vascular endothelial function in heart transplant recipients. Pre-rehabilitation regular aerobic or combined exercise is beneficial for patients with end-stage HF awaiting heart transplantation in order to maintain a higher fitness level and reduce complications afterwards like intensive care unit acquired weakness or cardiac cachexia. All hospitalized patients after heart transplantation should be referred to early mobilization of skeletal muscles through kinesiotherapy of the upper and lower limbs and respiratory physiotherapy in order to prevent infections of the respiratory system prior to hospital discharge. Moreover, all heart transplant recipients after hospital discharge who have not already participated in an early cardiac rehabilitation program should be referred to a rehabilitation center by their health care provider. Although high intensity interval training seems to have more benefits than moderate intensity continuous training, especially in stable transplant patients, individualized training based on the abilities and needs of each patient still remains the most appropriate approach. Cardiac rehabilitation appears to be safe in heart transplant patients. However, long-term follow-up data is incomplete and, therefore, further high quality and adequately-powered studies are needed to demonstrate the long-term benefits of exercise training in this population.

Abstract
The process of reconstructing damaged skeletal muscles involves degeneration, inflammatory
and immune responses, regeneration and reorganization, which are regulated by
a number of immune-endocrine factors affecting muscle cells and satellite cells (SCs). One of
these molecules is testosterone (T), which binds to the androgen receptor (AR) to initiate the
expression of the muscle isoform of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1Ec). The interaction
between T and IGF-1Ec stimulates the growth and regeneration of skeletal muscles by inhibiting
apoptosis, enhancement of SCs proliferation and myoblasts differentiation. As a result
of sarcopenia, muscle dystrophy or wasting diseases, the SCs population is significantly reduced.
Regular physical exercise attenuates a decrease in SCs count, and thus elevates the
regenerative potential of muscles in both young and elderly people. One of the challenges of
modern medicine is the application of SCs and extracellular matrix scaffolds in regenerative
and molecular medicine, especially in the treatment of degenerative diseases and post-traumatic
muscle reconstruction. The aim of the study is to present current information on the
molecular and cellular mechanisms of skeletal muscle regenera,tion, the role of testosterone
and growth factors in the activation of SCs and the possibility of their therapeutic use in
stimulating the reconstruction of damaged muscle fibers.

Abstract
AIMS Despite published guidelines emphasizing the importance of education in the management of heart failure (HF), the most effective method of education remains unknown. The aim of this study was to test the efficacy of constructivist teaching method (CTM) on the patients with HF. METHODS AND RESULTS This is a single-centre, randomized controlled trial. Patients in the intervention group were educated using the CTM in five phases: orientation, elicitation, restructuring, application, and review. The duration of intervention was 6 months. For the study outcome measures, five questionnaires were used: Atlanta Heart Failure Knowledge Test (AHFK), Minnesota Living with Heart Failure (HMLHFQ), Self-Efficacy for Appropriate Medication Use Scale (SEAMS), European Heart Failure Self-care Behaviour Scale (EHFScBS-9), and Duke Activity Status Index (DASI). A total of 122 adults (83.6% male, mean age ± standard deviation 67.1 ± 12.3 years) were enrolled in the study; 61 in the intervention group and 61 in the control group. At 6 months, the knowledge, the quality of life, the self-efficacy for appropriate medication use, the self-care behaviour, and the activity were improved in both groups but the degree of change was greater in the intervention group as indicated from the results of repeated measurements analysis of variance (P < 0.001). Significantly lower proportion of readmission at hospital at 1 month (8.2% vs. 23%, P = 0.025), and 6 months (13.1% vs. 36.1%, P = 0.003) were found for the intervention group. CONCLUSIONS Training of HF patients through the CTM helps effectively manage the disease while significantly reducing hospital readmissions due to decompensation.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the effects of combined training (CT) versus aerobic training (AT) or versus control on VO2 peak and quadriceps muscle strength in patients with heart failure (HF). MATERIALS AND METHODS Major electronic databases were searched, from inception to November 2020, for randomized clinical trials comparing the effects of CT against AT or control on VO2 peak and/or quadriceps muscle strength in patients with HF. Random effects meta-analyses were conducted, calculating the standardized mean difference (SMD). RESULTS Twenty-eight articles were included. An increase on VO2 peak (SMD = 0.77, 95%CI 0.39-1.14, I2=80.1%) and quadriceps muscle strength (SMD = 0.67, 95%CI 0.18-1.16, I2=0%) was found in CT compared to control. CT increased quadriceps muscle strength, versus AT (SMD = 0.44, 95%CI 0.15-0.74, I2=0%). There were no differences between CT and AT on VO2 peak (SMD=-0.01, 95%CI -0.36 to 0.34, I2=65%). Time of session and training duration moderate the effects of CT over control on VO2 peak. CONCLUSIONS CT promotes increases on quadriceps muscle strength and aerobic capacity over control and provides additional gains on quadriceps muscle strength, having the same effects on VO2 peak compared to AT. A longer time of session is associated with greater benefits to aerobic capacity.Implications for rehabilitationCombining aerobic and strength training increases the functional capacity and quadriceps muscle strength in heart failure patients.Using longer sessions of training has a greater impact on aerobic capacity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Aerobic capacity (AC) is inversely associated with a high risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality as well as all-cause mortality. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) represents the gold standard for assessing exercise capacity based on maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max). The purpose of our study was to provide for the first time CPET-derived normative reference values in a Greek cohort of apparently healthy men and women on a cycle ergometer to evaluate their AC, and to compare our results with similar studies from other countries. METHODS A cohort of 194 apparently healthy subjects (118 males and 76 females, age range, 15-69 years) was submitted to CPET using a cycle ergometer. Mean ± SD values for several exercise parameters, VO2max included, were determined. We compared our results with existing data derived from USA and North Europe cohorts. RESULTS Male subjects achieved significantly higher levels of relative and absolute VO2max (p < 0.001) across all ages compared to female subjects. A decline in relative and absolute VO2max among older participants was observed in both sexes. Greek subjects had lower AC than the North Europe cohort and almost similar to the USA cohort. CONCLUSION We provide the first reference data for AC in apparently healthy Greek subjects based on CPET using cycle ergometer. Our findings will allow for more accurate interpretation of CPET in several groups of healthy subjects or patients with CV diseases. The differences found between our reference values and those reported from the USA and northern European countries, underscore the need for individual countries to develop their own AC reference values.

Abstract
Clinical investigations in chronic heart failure (HF) have been increasingly including endpoints related to functional and exercise capacity. Noninvasive ventilation support (NIVS) constitutes a therapeutic option that could improve several markers of cardiovascular performance and functional capacity along with improvements in HF symptoms such as dyspnea. NIVS with bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) is a therapeutic option that can be better tolerated by patients than continuous positive airway pressure (cPAP) and potentially improve the adherence of patients with HF to NIVS. Future investigations should improve our understanding as to how to select patients with HF most amenable to respond favorably, elucidate the frequency and duration of NIVS session required to maintain the observed short-term beneficial effects for a long period of time, and shed additional light on the mechanisms associated with these benefits. In summary, NIVS appears to be a promising nonpharmacological therapy to improve exercise capacity and quality of life in chronic HF.
