Abstract
Ruthenium(ii) complexes are lately of great scientific interest due to their chemotherapeutic potential as anticancer and antimicrobial agents. Here we present the synthesis of new pyrazole carbothioamide derivatives and their four arene–ruthenium complexes. The title compounds were characterized with the application of IR, NMR, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction. Additionally, for new complexes DFT calculations were done. Their antimicrobial activity (MIC, MBC/MFC) was examined in vitro against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris and Candida albicans. Their cytotoxic effects, using the MTT assay, against three cancer cell lines: HL-60, NALM-6, WM-115 and normal human foreskin fibroblasts (HFF-1) were also investigated. The influence of the new arene–ruthenium(ii) complexes on the DNA structure was also tested. From our results, compound 2d showed higher cytotoxicity against melanoma cell line WM-115 than cisplatin. Strong biostatic and biocidal activity of the tested complexes against Gram-positive bacteria, including S. aureus, S. epidermidis and E. faecalis was demonstrated. The new arene–ruthenium(ii) compounds could not only inhibit proliferation of cancer cells, but also protect patients against malignant wound infections. New arene–ruthenium(ii) complexes with pyrazole derivatives as ligands were synthesized and characterized. This compounds exhibited good cytotoxic effects, and strong biostatic and biocidal activity.![]()

Abstract
The D-glucose-bis pyrazolyl complexes of Cu(II) 1 and Ni(II) 2 were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance measurements and spectroscopic methods. The solution structures of the complex have been assessed to square pyramidal using electronic absorption and electronic paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. The interaction of 1 and 2 with calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) has been carried out by absorption, emission, viscometric and electrochemical methods. The intrinsic binding constant K(b) was determined as 13.4x10(5) M(-1), 4.5x10(5) M(-1) for 1 and 2, respectively suggestive of strong binding of complexes with DNA. Furthermore, higher value of K(b) for 1 implies that this complex interacts more strongly with CT DNA in comparison to 2. The quenching constant "K" of 1 and 2 obtained from emission spectral methods was 1.33, 0.55, respectively. Complex 1 hydrolytically cleaved pBR322 supercoiled DNA in absence of an activating agent. The enhanced cleavage of pBR322 DNA was observed in presence of ascorbic acid as a reducing agent, 1 also displays efficient photonuclease activity through double strand DNA breaks when irradiated at 365 nm through mechanistic pathway involving hydroxyl radicals. In addition to the above binding studies, an in vitro binding study of complex 1 with protein human serum albumin (HSA), tyrptophan and mixtures of HSA, L-tryptophan with CT DNA was carried out. The in vitro "binding study" also supports that 1 shows higher binding affinity towards CT DNA.

Abstract
The synthesis of a novel arylpyrazole-derived ligand, 1,2-bis[(1,3-diphenylpyrazol-4-yl)methyl]diaminoethane (Ph4Pz2mde), and its complexes prepared with CuCl2 [Cu(Ph4Pz2mde)Cl2(MeOH)] 1, CuBr2 [Cu(Ph4Pz2mde)Br2(MeOH)] 2, from MeOH, and [Cu(Ph4Pz2mde)Cl2(DMF)] 3, from a mixture of MeOH and DMF, are described. The complexes are characterized by elemental and thermal analysis and FT-IR spectroscopy, while the 1H and 13C NMR assignments are given for the ligand. The crystal and molecular structure of [Cu(Ph4Pz2mde)Cl2(DMF)] was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In-vitro cytotoxicity of the Ph4Pz2mde ligand and two copper(ii) complexes was obtained using sulforhodamine B (SRB) treatment against three human tumour cell lines: HeLa (epitheloid carcinoma of cervix), MCF-7 (breast adenocarcinoma), and MRC-5 (lung fetal fibroblasts).

Abstract
We have synthesized an octanuclear zinc(II) cluster [L4Zn8(H2O)3] by the complexation of 3-hydroxysalamo (H4L) with zinc(II) acetate. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P, with unit cell parameters a = 18.233(10) A, b = 20.518(11) A, c = 21.366(11) A, alpha = 98.7557(2) degrees, beta = 99.191(11) degrees, gamma = 108.309(10) degrees, and Z = 4. The crystallographic analysis revealed the S4 symmetrical assembling of four ligands and that the tetrameric complex has three water molecules in an unsymmetrical fashion. Spectroscopic analysis of the complex strongly suggests that the octanuclear cluster also exists in solution and maintains a conformation similar to that in the crystal structure, although exchange of the coordinating water molecules presumably takes place. In addition, the formation process of the octanuclear complex is highly cooperative. A high coordinating ability of the [(salamo)Zn] unit as well as the catecholato2- moieties probably stabilizes the octanuclear assembly and makes the complexation process cooperative. The corresponding octanuclear cobalt(II) cluster [L4Co8(EtOH)3] was prepared in a similar manner. Complex [L4Co8(H2O)2X] (X = H2O or EtOH) was obtained by the recrystallization from chloroform/hexane. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P, with unit cell parameters a = 15.2359(10) A, b = 16.9625(12) A, c = 18.9325(13) A, alpha = 101.9710(10) degrees, beta = 105.5410(10) degrees, gamma = 97.1290(10) degrees, and Z = 2. Temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility showed a continuous decrease in the chi(M)T value with decreasing temperature, suggesting antiferromagnetic interaction among cobalt(II) ions. The magnetic susceptibility above 40 K obeys the Curie-Weiss law with a Weiss constant theta of -39 K and a Curie constant C of 19.7 cm(3) K mol(-1).
