Abstract
The metalation of the DIPPCCC (DIPPCCC = bis(diisopropylphenyl-imidazol-2-ylidene)phenyl) ligand platform with Pd was achieved under mild conditions by reacting [H3(DIPPCCC)]Cl2 with Pd(OAc)2 at room temperature in the presence of 3.1 equiv of LiN(SiMe3)2. The resulting complexes (DIPPCCC)PdX (X = Cl or Br) were oxidized by two-electron oxidants PhICl2, Br2, and BTMABr3. All the complexes were crystallographically characterized, and analysis of structural parameters around the ligand scaffold show no evidence of a ligand-centered radical, rendering the metal center in the oxidized species, (DIPPCCC)PdX3 (X = Cl or Br), a formal PdIV oxidation state. Unlike their NiIV analogues, these PdIV complexes are stable to air and moisture. The addition of styrene to (DIPPCCC)PdBr3 resulted in the clean reduction of PdIV to PdII, along with the formation of the halogenated alkane. The oxidation to PdIV and subsequent return to PdII upon reduction, as opposed to formation of PdIII species, showcases the accessibility of high-valent palladium DIPPCCC complexes.

Abstract
Palladium pincer complexes, containing a monoanionic terdentate ligand composed of an anionic aryl carbon atom and two mutually compatible donor sites, have aroused considerable interest since their first reports in the late 1970s. The high stability of the Pd pincer complexes and particularly their high modularity make these species ideal candidates for catalysis. Furthermore, the nature of the meridional coordination of the pincer ligands, and along with this their ability to enforce a stereo-specific environment around the Pd center, provide a good opportunity for developing chiral Pd pincer catalysts. Thus, a broad variety of chiral Pd pincer complexes have been prepared by the introduction of various stereochemical centers in the pincer skeletons. These chiral Pd pincer complexes have been successfully applied to many asymmetric catalytic reactions such as hydrophosphination reactions, allylation of aldehydes and imines, Michael and aldol reactions, Suzuki-Miyaura reactions as well as reactions of nitrile compounds with imines. This review focuses on the synthetic methods and the applications of chiral Pd pincer complexes in asymmetric catalysis.

Abstract
Conjugate addition of arylboronates to α,β-unsaturated ketones may be catalyzed by chiral binaphthols with enantioselectivities of up to 99:1. Best results were observed with 3,3'-dichloro-BINOL. This chemistry was applied to syntheses of intermediates for syntheses of (+)-indatraline and (+)-tolterodine.

Preparation of the robust air- and moisture-stable PCS-pincer palladium complex 5[X] started from the symmetrical alpha,alpha'-dibromo-meta-xylene and involved the selective substitution of one bromide by PPh(2)(BH(3)), followed by substitution of the second bromide by SPh and subsequent introduction of the palladium. The new PCS complexes (5[X]) were employed as catalysts in two important organic transformations. Firstly, complex 5[Cl] displays high catalytic activity in aldol reactions but enters the catalytic cycle as a precatalyst. Secondly, complex 5[BF(4)] displays tandem catalytic activity in the coupling of allyl chlorides with aldehydes and imines in the presence of hexamethylditin. In these tandem catalytic reactions the first process is the conversion of allyl chlorides into trimethylallyltin (and trimethyltin chloride) with Sn(2)Me(6), which is followed by catalytic allylation of aldehyde and sulfonimine substrates. In addition, we present a new catalytic process for the one-pot allylation of 4-nitrobenzaldehyde with vinyloxirane. The catalytic performance of the novel PCS-pincer palladium complex was compared to those of its symmetrical PCP- and SCS-pincer complex analogues. It was concluded that the unsymmetrical PCS complex advantageously unifies the attractive catalytic features of the corresponding symmetrical pincer complexes including both (pi-) electron-withdrawing (such as phosphorus) or (sigma-) electron-donating (such as sulfur and nitrogen) heteroatoms. Thus, in the aldol reaction the PCS-pincer palladium complex 5[X] provides a high turnover frequency, while in the tandem process both reactions are catalysed with sufficiently high activity.
