Mono- and dinuclear copper(I) complexes with methyl-substituted pyrimidinethiones

First principle approach to elucidate transport properties through L-glutamic acid-based molecular devices using symmetrical electrodes

Protein-based electronics is one of the emerging technology in which inventive electronic devices are being adduced and developed based on the selective actions of specific proteins. The explicit actions can be predicted if the building blocks of proteins (i.e., amino acids) are studied decorously. We emphasize our work on electronic transport properties of L-glutamic acid (i.e., L-amino acid) stringed to gold, silver, and copper electrodes, respectively, to form three distinct devices. For our calculations, we employ NEGF-DFT approach using self-consistent function. Electronic coupling and tunneling barriers between the molecule and the electrodes have been emphasized with an inception of delocalization of molecular orbitals within the device. We observe strong correlation between tunneling barrier and Mulliken charge transfer between molecule and electrodes. The asymmetrical carbon chain (-CH₂) within the molecule exhibits negative differential resistance (NDR) and rectification ratio. The device using molecule with copper electrodes exhibits the highest peak to valley current ratio of 1.84. The rectification ratio of the device with gold, silver, and copper electrodes is 2.35, 2.25, and 15.62, respectively, at finite bias. These results yield fresh insight on the potential of L-glutamic acid like bio-molecule in the emerging field of proteotronics.

Di-μ-bromido-bis({2-[(4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-2-yl)disulfanyl]-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine-κ2N1,S2}copper(I))

The title dinuclear complex, [Cu₂Br₂(C₁₂H₁₄N₄S₂)₂], is located about an inversion center. The Cu^I ion is coordinated in a distorted tetra­hedral geometry by two bridging Br atoms in addition to an N and an S atom from the 2-[(4,6-dimethyl­pyrimidin-2-yl)disulfan­yl]-4,6-dimethyl­pyrimidine ligand. In the crystal, π–π stacking inter­actions are observed with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.590 (2) Å.

Electronic absorption study on acid-base equilibria for some pyrimidine derivatives containing semi- and thiosemicarbazone moiety

The UV-vis spectra of recently synthesized 5-benzoyl-1-(methylphenylmethyleneamino)-4-phenyl-1H-pyrimidine-2-one, (I), and 5-benzoyl-1-(methylphenylmethyleneamino)-4-phenyl-1H-pyrimidine-2-thione, (II) were studied in aqueous methanol (5%, v/v methanol). The nature of the electronic transitions and the roles of carbonyl oxygen of I and thiocarbonyl sulfur of II on the behavior of UV-vis spectra were discussed. Acid-base equilibria of the compounds against varying pH and pK(a) values related equilibria were determined at an ionic strength of 0.10 M by using the Henderson-Haselbalch equation. The mean acidity constants for the protonated forms of the compounds were determined as pK(a1)=5.121, pK(a2)=7.929 and pK(a3)=11.130 for I and pK(a1)=4.684, pK(a2)=7.245 and pK(a3)=10.630 for II. The preferred dissociation mechanisms were discussed based on UV-vis data and a mechanism was proposed for each compound.
