Abstract
Abstract
A new modification of the homometallic silver(I) cluster [Ag4Br4(PPh3)4] has been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, UV/Vis and IR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. The tetramer shows a polycyclic structure with a chair conformation. The bromine atoms adopt μ
2- and μ
3-bridging modes. The shortest Ag–Ag distance in the cluster is 3.159(2) Å, which indicates significant Ag–Ag interactions. A supramolecular structure is arranged by hydrogen bonds (C–H···Br). Cyclic voltammograms of the cluster indicate a quasi-reversible Ag+/Ag couple. The fluorescence properties of the ligand and the Ag(I) cluster were studied in the solid state. The emission peaks of the Ag(I) cluster are attributed to ligand-centered luminescence.

Abstract
A series of P-NHC-type hybrid ligands containing both PR2 and N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) donors on meta-bis-substituted phenylene backbones, L(Cy), L(tBu) and L(Ph) (R = Cy, tBu, Ph, respectively), was accessed through a modular synthesis from a common precursor, and their coordination chemistry with coinage metals was explored and compared. Metallation of L(Ph)·n(HBr) (n = 1, 2) with Ag2O gave the pseudo-cubane [Ag4Br4(L(Ph))2], isostructural to [Ag4Br4(L(R))2] (R = Cy, tBu) (T. Simler, P. Braunstein and A. A. Danopoulos, Angew. Chem., Int. Ed., 2015, 54, 13691), whereas metallation of ·HBF4 (R = Ph, tBu) led to the dinuclear complexes [Ag2(L(R))2](BF4)2 which, in the solid state, feature heteroleptic Ag centres and a 'head-to-tail' (HT) arrangement of the bridging ligands. In solution, interconversion with the homoleptic 'head-to-head' (HH) isomers is facilitated by ligand fluxionality. 'Head-to-tail' [Cu2Br2(L(R))2] (R = Cy, tBu) dinuclear complexes were obtained from L(R)·HBr and [Cu5(Mes)5], Mes = 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl, which also feature bridging ligands and heteroleptic Cu centres. Although the various ligands L(R)l ed to structurally analogous complexes for R = Cy, tBu and Ph, the rates of dynamic processes occurring in solution are dependent on R, with faster rates for R = Ph. Transmetallation of both NHC and P donor groups from [Ag4Br4(L(tBu))2] to AuI by reaction with [AuCl(THT)] (THT = tetrahydrothiophene) led to L(tBu) transfer and to the dinuclear complex [Au2Cl2L(tBu)] with one L(tBu) ligand bridging the two Au centres. Except for the silver pseudo-cubanes, all other complexes do not exhibit metallophilic interactions.

Abstract
The structures of two polymorphs, both monoclinic P21/n [polymorph (I)] and P21/c [polymorph (II)], of di-μ-thiocyanato-κ2
N:S;κ2
S:N-bis[bis(tri-p-fluorophenylphosphine-κP)silver(I)] complexes have been determined at 100 K. In both polymorphs the complex has a dinuclear structure where the silver(I) coordinates to two phosphine ligands and two bridging thiocyanate anions to form complexes with distorted tetrahedral geometry. Polymorph (I) has just one half of the [Ag2(SCN)2{P(4-FC6H4)3}4] molecule at (0, ½, 0) from the origin in the asymmetric unit. Polymorph (II) has one and a half molecules of [Ag2(SCN)2{P(4-FC6H4)3}4] in the asymmetric unit; the half molecule is situated at (0, 1, ½), while the full molecule is located at (1/3, ½, 1/3) from the origin. The Ag—P bond distances range from 2.4437 (4) to 2.4956 (7) Å in both polymorphs. The Ag—S distances are 2.5773 (7) Å in (I) and 2.5457 (5), 2.5576 (5) and 2.5576 (5) Å in (II). The full molecule in polymorph (II) has slightly shorter Ag—N bond distances [2.375 (1) and 2.367 (2) Å] compared with the half molecules in both polymorphs [2.409 (2) Å in (II) and 2.395 (2) Å in (I)]. The two polymorphs are compared using r.m.s. overlay calculations as well as half-normal probability plot analysis.
