Acute Bite Angle POP- and PSP-Type Ligands and Their Trinuclear Copper(I) Complexes: Synthesis and Photo-Luminescence Properties

In the current work, the rational synthesis of trinuclear copper complexes, incorporating acute bite angle POP- and PSP-type ligands, is reported. The in situ formation of POP (Ph2P-O-PPh2) or PSP (Ph2P-S-PPh2) ligands in the presence of a copper(I) precursor gave access to various trinuclear copper complexes of the form [Cu3(μ3-Hal)2(μ-PXP)3]PF6 [X = O; Hal = Cl (1), Br (2), I (3) and X = S; Hal = Cl (5), Br (6), I (7)]. Related iodide-containing complexes and clusters, such as [Cu4(μ3-I)4(Ph2PI)4] (4) and [Cu3(μ3-I)2(μ-I)(μ-PSP)2] (8), could also be obtained via the variation of the reaction stoichiometry. The investigation of the photo-optical properties by photo-luminescence spectroscopy has demonstrated that the phosphorescence in the visible region can be switched off through the mere change of the heteroatom in the ligand backbone (POP vs PSP ligand scaffold). Theoretical studies have been conducted to complement the experimental photo-optical data with detailed insights into the occurring electronic transitions. Consequently, this systematic study paves the way for tuning the photo-optical properties of transition metal complexes in a more rational way.

A novel luminescent ionic trinuclear Cu3I2 cluster cuprous complex supported by a P^N ligand: synthesis, structure characterization, properties and TD-DFT calculations

Luminescent cuprous complexes are an important class of coordination compounds due to their relative abundance, low cost and ability to display excellent luminescence. The title ionic trinuclear Cu₃I₂ complex, tris[μ₂-diphenyl(pyridin-2-yl)phosphane-κ²P:N]di-μ₃-iodido-tricopper(I)(3 Cu-Cu) hexafluoridophosphate, [Cu₃I₂(C₃₉H₃₂NP)₃]PF₆, conventionally abbreviated as [Cu₃I₂(Ph₂PPy)₃]PF₆, is described. Each Cu^I atom is coordinated by two μ₃-iodide ligands and by a P and an N atom from two Ph₂PPy ligands, giving rise to a CuI₂PN tetrahedral coordination geometry about each Cu^I centre. The electronic absorption and photoluminescence properties of this trinuclear cluster have been studied on as-synthesized samples, which had been examined previously by powder X-ray diffraction. A detailed time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) study was carried out and showed a green emission derived from a halide-to-ligand charge transfer and metal-to-ligand charge transfer ³(X+M)LCT excited state.

Mono- and polynuclear Ag(i) complexes of N-functionalized bis(diphenylphosphino)amine DPPA-type ligands: synthesis, solid-state structures and reactivity

DPPA-type ligands (Ph₂P)₂N(p-Z)C₆H₄ (Z = H, SMe, OMe) led to Ag(i) complexes of various nuclearities and an unexpected influence of the para-substituent Z is observed, including for CH₂Cl₂ activation.
