Abstract
A tetra-nuclear complex with an open-cubane-like core structure was synthesized from 2-meth-oxy-6-(pyridin-2-yl-hydrazonometh-yl)phenol (HL), namely, cyclo-tetra-kis-(μ-2-meth-oxy-6-{[2-(pyridin-2-yl)hydrazin-1-yl-idene]meth-yl}pheno-lato)tetra-nickel(II) tetra-kis-(perchlorate) aceto-nitrile monosolvate dihydrate, [Ni4(C13H12N3O2)4](ClO4)4·C2H3N·2H2O, and characterized using micro-analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The crystal-structure determination reveals the formation of a distorted Ni4O4 cubane-like core architecture encapsulated by four hydrazone Schiff base (HL) mol-ecules. A open-cube tetra-nuclear architecture is created in which nickel(II) ions of the NiN2O3 unit are connected by μ2-O anions of the phenolate moiety of HL. In this complex, each Ni centre has a slightly distorted square-pyramidal coordination environment. The supra-molecular architectures are stabilized via the presence of various inter-molecular hydrogen bonds and (ar-yl-aryl, ar-yl-chelate and chelate-chelate) stacking inter-actions.

Abstract
Two tetranuclear Ni4 and Co4 complexes were prepared and characterized. Their magnetic properties were thoroughly studied and it was revealed that the Co4 compound behaves as a zero-field single-molecule magnet.

Abstract
The strategic recombination of preformed coordination clusters in the presence of polymodal bridging ligands has successfully led to the characterisation of five new compounds of structural and magnetic interest. Indeed using the dinuclear complex [M2(H2O)(piv)4(Hpiv)4] (M = Co, Ni; Hpiv = pivalic acid) as starting material and reacting it with phenylhydroxamic acid (H2pha) has yielded the four tetrametallic coordination clusters [Co4(Hpha)2(piv)6(Hpiv)4] (1), [Ni4(Hpha)2(piv)6(Hpiv)2(DMF)2] (2), [Co4(Hpha)2(piv)6(EtOH)2(H2O)2] (3), [Ni4(Hpha)2(piv)6(EtOH)2(H2O)2] (4) and the hexanuclear complex [Co6(Hpha)4(piv)8(EtOH)2]·EtOH (5). All the compounds have been structurally characterised revealing a particular binding mode for the hydroxamate ligand. The study of their magnetic properties has been performed and the modelling of these properties has been done using the appropriate hamiltonians for each compound. The experimental data and their modelling show non-zero spin ground states for compounds 4 and 5.
