The Novel 5-Fluorouracil Loaded Ruthenium-based Nanocarriers Enhanced Anticancer and Apoptotic Efficiency while Reducing Multidrug Resistance in Colorectal Cancer Cells. J Fluoresc 2023; 33:1227-1236. Abstract
Recently, nanocarriers have been made to eliminate the disadvantages of chemotherapeutic agents by nanocarriers. Nanocarriers show their efficacy through their targeted and controlled release. In this study, 5-fluorouracil (5FU) was loaded into ruthenium (Ru)-based nanocarrier (5FU-RuNPs) for the first time to eliminate the disadvantages of 5FU, and its cytotoxic and apoptotic effects on HCT116 colorectal cancer cells were compared with free 5FU. 5FU-RuNPs with a size of approximately 100 nm showed a 2.61-fold higher cytotoxic effect compared to free 5FU. Apoptotic cells were detected by Hoechst/propidium iodide double staining, and the expression levels of BAX/Bcl-2 and p53 proteins, in which apoptosis occurred intrinsically, were revealed. In addition, 5FU-RuNPs was also found to reduce multidrug resistance (MDR) according to BCRP/ABCG2 gene expression levels. When all the results were evaluated, the fact that Ru-based nanocarriers alone did not cause cytotoxicity proved that they were ideal nanocarriers. Moreover, 5FU-RuNPs did not show any significant effect on the cell viability of normal human epithelial cell lines BEAS-2B. Consequently, the 5FU-RuNPs synthesized for the first time may be ideal candidates for cancer treatment because they can minimize the potential drawbacks of free 5FU.

Abstract
A new series of cyanido-bridged {FeIIILnIII}2 neutral molecular squares of general formula [Fe{HB(pz)3}(CN)(μ-CN)2Ln(NO3)2(pyim)(Ph3PO)]2·2CH3CN [Ln = Ce (1), Pr (2), Nd (3), Gd (4), Tb (5), Dy (6) and Er (7); {HB(pz)3}- = hydrotris(pyrazolyl)borate, pyim = 2-(1H-imidazol-2-yl)pyridine and Ph3PO = triphenylphosphine oxide] were obtained by reacting the low-spin [Fe{HB(pz)3}(CN)3]- species with the preformed [LnIII(pyim)(NO3)2(pyim)(Ph3PO)]+ complex anions (generated in situ by mixing the nitrate salt of each Ln(III) ion with pyim and Ph3PO molecules). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies show that 1-7 are isostructural compounds that crystallize in the triclinic P1̄ space group. Their crystal structures consist of centrosymmetric cyanido-bridged {FeIIILnIII}2 molecular squares where two [Fe{HB(pz)3}(CN)3]- units adopt bis-monodentate coordination modes towards two [LnIII(pyim)(NO3)2(pyim)(Ph3PO)]+ moieties. The cis-oriented convergent sites from both low-spin FeIII and LnIII fragments form a quasi square-shaped molecule in which the 3d and 4f ions alternatively occupy the corners of the square. Both FeIII ions show a distorted octahedral surrounding (C3v symmetry), whereas the LnIII ions exhibit a distorted muffin-like geometry (Cs symmetry) in 1-7. The intramolecular FeIII⋯LnIII distances across the two cyanido-bridges range from ca. 5.48/5.46 up to ca. 5.58/5.61 Å. The molecular squares in 1-7 are interlinked through hydrogen bonds, weak π⋯π stacking and very weak C-H⋯π type interactions into three-dimensional supramolecular networks. The analysis of the solid-state direct-current (dc) magnetic susceptibility data of 1-7 in the temperature range 1.9-300 K reveals the occurrence of weak intra- and intermolecular antiferromagnetic interactions. The small intramolecular antiferromagnetic couplings in 4 compare well with those previously reported for parent systems. Although the coexistence of the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) of the low-spin iron(III) and lanthanide(III) ions in the remaining compounds together with the ligand field effects mask the visualization and make difficult the evaluation of the possible magnetic interactions in them, we were able to do it through a SOC model applied on exact or effective Hamiltonians. Frequency-dependent alternating current magnetic susceptibility signals in the temperature range 2.0-9.0 K under zero and non-zero static fields were observed for 5-7 which indicate slow magnetic relaxation (SMM) behavior. The usual absence of χ''M maxima moved us to estimate their energy barriers through ln(χ''M/ χ'M) vs. 1/T plots, obtaining values from 25 to 40 cm-1.

Abstract
The reaction of bis(phenanthroline)metal(ii) cations (M = Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+) with bis(oxalato)chromium(iii) anions in a water/ethanol solution gives rise to a series of compounds with oxalate-bridged cations, [{M(phen)2}2(μ-C2O4)][Cr(phen)(C2O4)2]2·4H2O [Mn2Cr2 (1), Co2Cr2 (2), Ni2Cr2 (3), Cu2Cr2 (4) and Zn2Cr2 (5)]. Their structural analysis reveals that all the prepared compounds crystallize in the triclinic system, space group P1[combining macron], having similar unit cell parameters, molecular structures and crystal packing features. All metal centres in 1-5 are octahedrally coordinated: M2+ in homodinuclear cations are coordinated with two phen molecules and one bridging oxalate ligand; Cr3+ in anions is coordinated with one phen ligand and two bidentate oxalate groups. The copper atom in Cu2Cr2 (4) exhibits a Jahn-Teller-distorted octahedral coordination. Owing to the considerable number of pyridyl groups present in 1-5 (from phen ligands) the crystal packing of cations and anions is driven by stacking interactions appearing in offset-face-to-face (OFF) and edge-to-face (EF) orientations. The hydrogen bonds between the anions and water molecules of crystallization form 1D ladder-like motifs. In addition to the single crystal X-ray diffraction studies, the characterization of the new complexes was accomplished by means of IR and UV/Vis spectroscopy and magnetization measurements on a SQUID magnetometer. The temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility reveals different magnetic super exchange interactions taking place in homodinuclear oxalate-bridged cations depending on the transition metal centre (Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and Cu2+). Oxalate ligands mediate the ferromagnetic coupling of Cu2+ metal cations in Cu2Cr2 (4), whereas in Mn2Cr2 (1), Co2Cr2 (2) and Ni2Cr2 (3), antiferromagnetic interactions are observed between Mn2+, Co2+ and Ni2+ cations, respectively. Also, relatively large zero-field splitting parameters for Cr3+ ions (from mononuclear anions), D ≈ 1 cm-1, were observed.

Abstract
In the title compound, [Co(C8H6N3)2(C2H8N2)]NO3·H2O, the CoIII ion is coordinated by four N atoms from two 2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3-imidazol-1-ide ligands and two N atoms of ethylenediamine in a distorted octahedral geometry. In the crystal, classical N—H⋯N(O) and O—H⋯N(O) hydrogen bonds connect all the isolated components together to yield a three-dimensional structure.
