Base free N-alkylation of anilines with ArCH 2OH and transfer hydrogenation of aldehydes/ketones catalyzed by the complexes of η 5-Cp*Ir(iii) with chalcogenated Schiff bases of anthracene-9-carbaldehyde. Abstract
The condensation of anthracene-9-carbaldehyde with 2-(phenylthio/seleno)ethylamine results in Schiff bases [PhS(CH2)2C[double bond, length as m-dash]N-9-C14H9](L1) and [PhSe(CH2)2C[double bond, length as m-dash]N-9-C14H9] (L2). On their reaction with [(η5-Cp*)IrCl(μ-Cl)]2 and CH3COONa at 50 °C followed by treatment with NH4PF6, iridacycles, [(η5-Cp*)Ir(L-H)][PF6] (1: L = L1; 2: L = L2), result. The same reaction in the absence of CH3COONa gives complexes [(η5-Cp*)Ir(L)Cl][PF6] (3-4) in which L = L1(3)/L2(4) ligates in a bidentate mode. The ligands and complexes were authenticated with HR-MS and NMR spectra [1H, 13C{1H} and 77Se{1H} (in the case of L2 and its complexes only)]. Single crystal structures of L2 and half sandwich complexes 1-4 were established with X-ray crystallography. Three coordination sites of Ir in each complex are covered with η5-Cp* and on the remaining three, donor atoms present are: N, S/Se and C-/Cl-, resulting in a piano-stool structure. The moisture and air insensitive 1-4 act as efficient catalysts under mild conditions for base free N-alkylation of amines with benzyl alcohols and transfer hydrogenation (TH) of aldehydes/ketones. The optimum loading of 1-4 as a catalyst is 0.1-0.5 mol% for both the activations. The best reaction temperature is 80 °C for transfer hydrogenation and 100 °C for N-alkylation. The mercury poisoning test supports a homogeneous pathway for both the reactions catalyzed by 1-4. The two catalytic processes are most efficient with 3 followed by 4 > 1 > 2. The mechanism proposed on the basis of HR-MS of the reaction mixtures of the two catalytic processes taken after 1-2 h involves the formation of an alkoxy and hydrido species. The real catalytic species proposed in the case of iridacycles results due to the loss of the Cp* ring.

Abstract
In the title mol-ecular salt, C10H15ClNS(+)·Cl(-), the cation is [R'R"NH2](+), where R' is 2-MeS-C6H4CH2- and R" is -CH2CH2Cl, and the anion is Cl(-). In the cation, the N atom is protonated with sp (3)-hybridization and with a tetra-hedral geometry. In the crystal, the anions are connected to the cations through two pairs of N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, generating a four-centred inversion dimer with an R 4 (2)(8) ring motif.

Abstract
PdP2 and Pd4S nanoparticles (NPs) (size: ∼2-6 and 9-15 nm respectively) have been prepared for the first time from a single source precursor complex [Pd(L)Cl2] (1) by its one pot thermolysis at 200 °C in TOP and OA/ODE (1 : 1) respectively. These NPs were stirred with graphene oxide (GO) at room temperature to prepare NP composites, GO-PdP2 and GO-Pd4S. The GO-PdP2 NPs have been synthesized for the first time. The thioether ligand L prepared by reaction of 1,3-dibromo-2-propanol with the in situ generated PhSNa reacts with [PdCl2(CH3CN)2] in CH3CN at 70 °C resulting in 1. The L and 1 have been characterized by (1)H and (13)C{(1)H} NMR and HR-MS. The single crystal structure of 1 determined by X-ray diffraction reveals nearly square planar geometry around the Pd metal centre. The catalytic activities of two palladium nano-phases having phosphorus and sulphur respectively as a co-constituent for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling have been found to be exceptionally different, as PdP2 nanoparticles (NPs) grafted on graphene oxide (GO-PdP2) are significantly more efficient than Pd4S NPs grafted on GO. Without grafting PdP2 and Pd4S both have low efficiency. This is the first report comparing the influence of P and S on the catalytic activity of Pd NPs. TEM, SEM-EDX and powder-XRD have been used to authenticate all NPs. The GO-PdP2 NPs have been found to be efficient catalysts for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions (yield up to 96% in 30 min) at room temperature to 80 °C. Their recyclability has been found up to 6 cycles. In contrast, GO-Pd4S NPs are little active in comparison with GO-PdP2 NPs. The size of NPs and their distribution on GO appear to be key factors affecting the catalytic efficiency of the composite NPs. Leaching of Pd from GO-PdP2 NPs contributes significantly to the catalysis as evidenced by the three phase test, hot-filtration and recycling experiments. The catalysis is almost homogeneous.

Abstract
Novel metal(II) complexes derived from furfurylidene-4-aminoantipyrine and 2-aminobenzothiazole were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic (IR, (1)H NMR, UV-Vis., ESR and DART-MS) and other analytical methods. IR spectral studies indicate the binding sites of the ligand with the metal ion. Molar conductance data and magnetic susceptibility measurements provide evidence for monomeric and neutral nature of the complexes. The X band ESR spectrum of the Cu(II) complex at 300 and 77K was recorded. The electrochemical behaviour of the complexes in MeCN at 298 K was studied. Thermal studies of the ligand and its complexes show the presence of coordinated water in the complexes. The grain size of the complex was calculated by Scherrer formula using powder XRD. The surface morphology of the complexes was studied using SEM. The in vitro biological screening of the ligand and its complexes were tested against bacterial species S. aureus, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. vulgaris and P. aeruginosa and fungal species A. niger, R. stolonifer, A. flavus, R. bataicola and C. albicans. The DNA binding and cleavage activity of the ligand and its complexes were studied. Super oxide dismutase (SOD) activities of the ligand and its complexes have also been measured.
