Abstract
In this study, a naphthalene Schiff-base P which serves as a dual-analyte probe for the quantitative detection of Al3+ and Mg2+ has been designed. The proposed probe showed an ''off-on'' fluorescent response toward Al3+ in ethanol-water solution (1 : 9, v/v, pH 6.3, 20 mM HEPES) over other metal ions and anions, while the detection by the probe could be switched to Mg2+ by regulating the pH from 6.3 to 9.4. The sensing mechanisms of P to Al3+/Mg2+ are attributed to inhibition of the photo-induced electron transfer (PET) process by the formation of 1 : 1 ligand-metal complexes. More importantly, the probe was applied successfully in living cells for the fluorescent cell-imaging of Al3+ and Mg2+.

Abstract
In this work, a new rhodamine chemosensor (P) with excellent photochromic properties upon vis irradiation was designed and synthesized. The fabricated chemosensor P could detect Al3+ via the opening of the spirolactam ring of the rhodamine unit with high selectivity and sensitivity. The spirolactam ring opening was confirmed by NMR and infrared spectroscopy. Upon binding with Al3+, the generated 1 : 1 P-Al3+ complex, confirmed by Job's plot titrations and mass spectrometry analysis, could exhibit a remarkable fluorescence enhancement with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.16 μM. Furthermore, the sensing of P to Al3+ in vivo was also studied quantitatively and qualitatively in detail, and the results showed that the coordination between P with Al3+ was reversible in living cells.

Abstract
A structurally modified quinazoline derivative (L) acts as highly selective chemosensor for Al(3+) ions in DMSO-H2O (1:9, v/v) over the other competitive metal ions. L shows a red shifted fluorescence after the addition of Al(3+) ions and later the further fluorescence enhancement is due to chelation enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) through inhibition of photoinduced electron transfer (PET). This probe (L) detects Al(3+) ions as low as 9nM in DMSO-H2O (1:9, v/v) at biological pH. The non-cytotoxic probe (L) can efficiently detect the intercellular distribution of Al(3+) ions in living cells under a fluorescence microscope to exhibit its sensible applications in the biological systems.

Abstract
A simple and efficient fluorescent chemosensor for Al(3+) is reported in the paper. The chemosensor is obtained by dehydration reaction of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and 2-aminophenol. The chemosensor has high selectivity and sensitivity for Al(3+) and displays fluorescence "off-on" switch signal. The detection limit of the chemosensor for Al(3+) can reach 1.0×10(-7) M in DMSO/H2O (1:9, v/v) solution. The mass spectra and Job's plot analysis confirm the 1:1 stoichiometry between chemosensor and Al(3+). Potential utilization of the probe as an intracellular sensor of Al(3+) in human cancer (HiSa) cells is also examined by confocal fluorescence microscopy.

In this paper, a simple small molecule (L) derived from 4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxy-benzaldehyde and carbohydrazide has been synthesized, and a water-soluble host–guest system from β-cyclodextrin and L was obtained that exhibited characteristic fluorescence behavior toward Al3+.
