Abstract
The new ligand 3,3'-bis(((2-(3,6,9-triaza-1(2,6)-pyridinacyclodecaphane-6-yl)ethyl)amino)methyl)-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2,2'-diol (L) has been synthesized and characterized. It contains two pyridinacyclophane macrocycles spaced by a 2,2'-biphenol moiety. The acid-base behaviour of L as well as its binding properties towards Zn2+ ion have been investigated. This work is inserted in the field of fluorescent ditopic receptors, formed by two polyamines spaced by a aromatic fragments. This ligand represents a new example of a peculiar case of polyamine fluorescent receptor in which the interaction with Zn2+ is translated into a deactivation of the emission. Enough data to describe and explain this unusual behaviour was obtained through potentiometric, UV-Vis, fluorescence and NMR titrations as well as theoretical calculations. This studies have shown that the metal cation is indirectly affecting the emission favouring a conformation in which the fluorophore is at stacking distance from the electron poor pyridine moieties. This gives rise to an oxidative photoinduced electron transfer from the excited state of the fluorophore to the electron-poor Zn2+ coordined pyridine.

Abstract
Geometries and binding energies of complexes between a LiF molecule and a model aromatic tetraamide are obtained using various DFT methods. The tetraamide consists of a benzene ring and four amides positioned so that the LiF molecule can bind via Li⋯O=C or N-H⋯F interactions. The complex with both interactions is the most stable one, followed by the complex with only N-H⋯F interactions. Doubling the size of the former resulted in a complex with a LiF dimer sandwiched between the model tetraamides. In turn, doubling the size of the latter resulted in a more stable tetramer with bracelet-like geometry having the two LiF molecules also sandwiched but far apart from each other. Additionally, all methods show that the energy barrier to transition to the more stable tetramer is small. The self-assembly of the bracelet-like complex mediated by the interactions of adjacent LiF molecules is demonstrated by all computational methods employed.

Abstract
Tetrapyrrole derivatives such as porphyrins, phthalocyanines, naphthalocyanines, and porpholactones, are highly stable macrocyclic compounds that play important roles in many phenomena linked to the development of life. Their complexes with lanthanides are known for more than 60 years and present breath-taking properties such as a range of easily accessible redox states leading to photo- and electro-chromism, paramagnetism, large non-linear optical parameters, and remarkable light emission in the visible and near-infrared (NIR) ranges. They are at the centre of many applications with an increasing focus on their ability to generate singlet oxygen for photodynamic therapy coupled with bioimaging and biosensing properties. This review first describes the synthetic paths leading to lanthanide-tetrapyrrole complexes together with their structures. The initial synthetic protocols were plagued by low yields and long reaction times; they have now been replaced with much more efficient and faster routes, thanks to the stunning advances in synthetic organic chemistry, so that quite complex multinuclear edifices are presently routinely obtained. Aspects such as redox properties, sensitization of NIR-emitting lanthanide ions, and non-linear optical properties are then presented. The spectacular improvements in the quantum yield and brightness of YbIII-containing tetrapyrrole complexes achieved in the past five years are representative of the vitality of the field and open welcome opportunities for the bio-applications described in the last section. Perspectives for the field are vast and exciting as new derivatizations of the macrocycles may lead to sensitization of other LnIII NIR-emitting ions with luminescence in the NIR-II and NIR-III biological windows, while conjugation with peptides and aptamers opens the way for lanthanide-tetrapyrrole theranostics.

Abstract
Current approaches to the synthesis of aromatic and heteroaromatic azamacrocycles and their derivatives are summarized and systematized. The relationship between the structure of azacrown compounds and their complexation behaviour towards metal cations is analyzed. The diversity of practical applications of azamacrocyclic derivatives in medicine, biology and analytical and organic chemistry, as well as for the design of molecular devices is demonstrated.

Abstract
The binding properties of HL1, HL2, and HL3 ligands toward Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions, constituted by tetraaza-macrocyclic rings decorated with pyrimidine pendants, were investigated by means of potentiometric and UV spectrophotometric measurements in aqueous solution, with the objective of using the related HL-M(II) (HL = HL1-HL3; M = Cu, Zn) complexes for the preparation of hybrid MWCNT-HL-M(II) materials based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), through an environmentally friendly noncovalent procedure. As shown by the crystal structure of [Cu(HL1)](ClO4)2, metal coordination takes place in the macrocyclic ring, whereas the pyrimidine residue remains available for attachment onto the surface of the MWCNTs via π-π stacking interactions. On the basis of equilibrium data showing the formation of highly stable Cu(II) complexes, the MWCNT-HL1-Cu(II) material was prepared and characterized. This compound proved very stable toward lixiviation processes (release of HL1 and/or Cu(II)); thus, it was used for the preparation of its reduced MWCNT-HL1-Cu(0) derivatives. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy images showed that MWCNT-HL1-Cu(0) contains Cu(0) nanoparticles, of very small (less than 5 nm) and regular size, uniformly distributed over the surface of the MWCNTs. Also, the MWCNT-HL1-Cu(0) material proved very resistant to detachment of its components. Accordingly, both MWCNT-HL1-Cu(II) and MWCNT-HL1-Cu(0) are promising candidates for applications in heterogeneous catalysis.
