Abstract
We present the effective synthesis and structural characterization of three novel imidazolium-thiohydantoin ligands (IMTHs, 5a–c) and their Mn(iii) complexes (Mn(iii)IMTHs, 6a–c) in this study. The findings of elemental analyses, spectral analyses and magnetic measurements will be used to infer the stoichiometry, coordination styles, and geometrical aspects of Mn(iii)IMTHs. The new compounds were evaluated for their chemotherapeutic potential against ESKAPE pathogens and liver cancer (HepG2). According to the MIC and MBC values, the bactericidal and bacteriostatic activities of IMTHs have been significantly improved following coordination with the Mn(iii) ion. The MTT assay results showed that all Mn(iii)IMTHs had the potential to reduce the viability of liver carcinoma (HepG2) cells in a dose-dependent manner, with the BF4-supported complex (6b) outperforming its counterparts (6a and 6c) as well as a clinical anticancer drug (VBL). Additionally, Mn-IMTH2 (6b) showed the highest level of selectivity (SI = 32.05) for targeting malignant cells (HepG2) over healthy cells (HL7702). We present the effective synthesis and structural characterization of three novel imidazolium-thiohydantoin ligands (IMTHs, 5a–c) and their Mn(iii) complexes (Mn(iii)IMTHs, 6a–c) in this study.![]()

Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) are remarkable chemical compounds with applications in many areas of modern science. They are increasingly recognized as promising compounds to fight microorganisms in both planktonic and biofilm states, contributing to reinvent the antimicrobial pipeline. Biofilm-related infections are particularly challenging given that the scientific community has not yet identified a reliable control strategy. Understanding of the action of ILs in biofilm control is is still in a very early stage. However, given the highly tunable nature and exceptional properties of ILs, they are excellent candidates for biofilm control. Here, we review the major advances in, and challenges tothe use of ILs for effective biofilm control.

Abstract
Coordination compounds of Cr(III), Ru(III), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) ions were synthesized from the furan ligand [5-hydroxymethylfuran-2-yl-methyleneaminoquinolin-2-one] (H-MFMAQ) derived from the condensation of 5-hydroxymethylfuran-2-carbaldehyde and 1-aminoquinolin-2(1H)-one. Elemental analytical data, IR, NMR (1H, 13C, and 15N), EPR, XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, TGA, mass, molar conductance, magnetic moment, and UV-Visible spectra techniques were used to confirm the structure of the synthesized chelates. According to the data obtained, the composition of the 1 : 1 metal ions : furan Schiff base ligand was found to be [M(MFMAQ)Cl2] (M = Cr(III) and Ru(III)) and [M(MFMAQ)Cl(H2O)]·nH2O in which (M = Mn(II); n=1, Co(II); n=0, Ni(II); n=2, Cu(II); n=0 and Zn(II); n=2.5). The measurements of magnetic susceptibility, ligand field parameter, and reflectance spectra suggested an octahedral geometry for the complexes. Central metals ions and furan Schiff base coordinated via O3 and N donor sites which was observed from IR spectra. The cytotoxic activities of all inspected compounds were evaluated towards human breast (MCF-7) and lung cancer (A549) cell lines.

Abstract
A new pyrimidine based Schiff base ligand (HL) and its four complexes of type [MLOAc]·nH2O (Cu(II), 1; Zn(II), 2; Co(II), 3; and Ni(II), 4) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, MS, 1H-NMR, FT-IR, UV-visible, and ESR techniques. The electronic and ESR spectral data suggested that complexes 1–4 possess square planar geometry. Antimicrobial activities of HL and complexes 1–4 were tested against four bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pneumonia, Salmonella enterica typhi, and Haemophilus influenzae) and two fungal strains (Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus niger). These results show that complexes 1–4 have good antimicrobial activity compared to HL. The DNA cleavage activity of HL and complexes 1–4 was monitored by the agarose gel electrophoresis method. The antioxidant property of the prepared compounds was assessed by using 2,2′-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging method. DNA binding properties of HL and complexes 1–4 have been investigated by electronic absorption technique and viscometric measurements.

Abstract
In our endeavor to develop a new class of pharmacological candidates with antimicrobial and anticancer efficacy, a series of biopolymeric chitosan Schiff bases bearing salicylidene ionic liquid (IL-Sal) brushes (ILCSB1-3, poly-(GlcNHAc-GlcNH2-(GlcN-Sal-IL)) was successfully synthesized by adopting efficient synthetic routes. Unfortunately, metalation trials of these biopolymeric Schiff bases afford the corresponding Ag(I)/M(II) complexes (where M=Co, Pd). These designed architectures were structurally characterized and pharmacologically evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial, against common bacterial and fungal pathogens, and anticancer activities against human colon carcinoma (HCT-116) cell line. In conclusion functionalization of chitosan with IL-Sal brushes coupled with metalation of formed ILCSBs were synergistically enhanced its antimicrobial and antitumor properties to a great extent. Noteworthy, Ag-ILCSB2 (IC50=9.13μg/mL) was ca. 5-fold more cytotoxic against HCT-116 cell line than ILCSB2 (IC50=43.30μg/mL).
