Cd(II) complex constructed from dipyridyl imine ligand: Design, synthesis and exploration of its photocatalytic degradation properties

Spectroscopy and visible-light driven photocatalytic properties of a microcrystalline Cu-complex derived from a novel Gabapentin Schiff base

A novel Gabapentin derivative Schiff base Gasa was synthesized by condensing Gabapentin with salicylaldehyde, which was further coordinated with Cu2+ in methanol to give a microcrystalline Cu(II) complex Cu(Gasa)2. The synthesized Gasa and Cu(Gasa)2 were further characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), as well as the FT-IR, Raman, electronic and fluorescence spectra. Cu(Gasa)2 exhibited excellent visible-light driven photocatalytic activities in removal of Congo red (CR) and Methylene blue (MB) dyes from aqueous solution in the presence of H2O2 as oxidant. It was revealed that ∙OH radicals played the most important role in the photodegradation processes of organic dyes, and the photodegradation of CR and MB fitted well with the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. In addition, solid state luminescent properties of Gasa and Cu(Gasa)2 were also studied in detail.

Synthesis, physicochemical studies, fluorescence behavior, and anticancer properties of transition metal complexes with the pyridyl ligand

A novel series of complexes with the formula [MLCl] [M = Co(II) (1), Ni(II) (2), Cu(II) (3), Zn(II) (4)] arising from Pyridyl ligand, N,N’-bis(1-(2-pyridyl)ethylidene)-2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diamine), ligand, L, was synthesized and investigated by elemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR, Powder XRD, and thermal analyses. TGA analysis indicated that all complexes degraded in three different steps, while the PXRD examination showed well-defined sharp crystalline peaks for the complexes, indicating significant crystallinity. The antiproliferative activity of the ligand and its complexes were also evaluated in vitro against the HeLa (Human Cervical Cancer Cells) and HCT116 (Colon Cancer Cells) cell lines. The findings suggested complex 4 to be potential anticancer agent against these cell lines. In addition, ligand and its complexes also exhibited considerable emission properties.

One Luminescent Cadmium Iodide with Free Bifunctional Azole Sites as a Triple Sensor for Cu2+, Fe3+, and Cr2O72- Ions

The exploration of an excellent triple sensor for monitoring Cu²⁺, Fe³⁺, and Cr₂O₇^2- ions is of exceeding significance because of their serious effects on the human body. Herein, optically active 1H-3,5-bis(pyrazinyl)-1,2,4-triazole (Hbpt) with triazolyl and pyrazinyl groups was applied for the construction of a new type of organic hybrid cadmium iodide [Cd₆I₈(bpt)₄(H₂O)₄]·2H₂O (1) incorporating a hitherto-unknown [Cd₃I₄(H₂O)₂]²⁺ trimeric-cationic unit, which shows an orange light emission at 589 nm with a large Stokes shift of 246 nm. In virtue of the existence of free bifunctional azole sites as the receptors, 1 exhibits a highly selective and sensitive sensing property toward Cu²⁺, Fe³⁺, and Cr₂O₇^2- ions in aqueous solution with lower detection limits of 0.70∼4.46 ppm, which offers the sole example of cadmium iodide as an excellent triple sensor for detecting Cu²⁺, Fe³⁺, and Cr₂O₇^2- ions. Moreover, temperature-dependent luminescent determinations also reveal that 1 can be used as the potential luminescent molecular thermometer.

Photocatalytic remediation of methylene blue and antibacterial activity study using Schiff base-Cu complexes

This work describes the design of novel Cu(II) complexes and their application in the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB). The same photocatalyst exhibits antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (gram-negative) and Bacillus circulans (gram-positive). The characterisation of the photocatalysts has been done by several up-to-date physical methods. The rationale behind the photocatalysts' beneficial intervention is discussed in this study. Statistical analysis of the degradation of MB is done using a one-way ANOVA, and the significance of means is determined by a multiple comparison test using Turkey HSD. Also, the degradation of MB follows pseudo first-order kinetics with high correlation coefficient values (R² > 0.95), making them useful as simple and low-cost organic dye degradation agents.

Crystal Structure, Spectroscopy and Photocatalytic Properties of a Co(II) Complex Based on 5-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)pyridine-3-carboxylic Acid

A novel cobalt(II) complex, namely [Co(tpa)2(H2O)4]·2H2O (1) (Htpa = 5-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)pyridine-3-carboxylic acid) has been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 was further characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR spectrum, electronic spectrum, X-ray powder diffraction and thermal gravimetric analysis. Structural analysis shows that complex 1 was stabilized via π···π stacking and hydrogen bonding interactions to give a 3D supramolecular framework. Hirshfeld surface analysis showed that O···H (29.5%), H···H (23.8%), N···H (21.5%) and π···π (8.6%) intermolecular contacts are the most important interactions in the crystal of 1. In addition, the synthesized Co(II) complex showed favorable photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methyl orange (MO) under UV light at room temperature. The degradation process of MO was in accordance with the first-order reaction kinetics, and the t1/2 for the reaction is 27.3 min, and the apparent rate constant is k = 2.54 × 10−2 min−1.
