Abstract
Phosphoryl podands of neutral type with a flexible ethylene glycol chain and diphenylphosphorylmethyl end groups are known for their complexation properties towards various cations. In this work, the complexation process between 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphoryl)-2-oxapropane (L) and lanthanide ions was studied. Namely, the stability constants of lanthanide complexes with L in acetonitrile were estimated by the method of spectrophotometric titration. It was found that the stability constants of Ln3+ complexes with L increase in the lanthanide series, which is consistent with the extraction and ion-selective properties of L. The extraction ability of L and this ligand in the presence of ionic liquids (ILs) such as methyltrioctylammonium nitrate (MTOAN) and bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium (C4mimTf2N) was studied. It was found that in the presence of ILs, L extracts the elements of the yttrium subgroup of lanthanides much better than those of the cerium subgroup: SFLu/Ce(L-MTOAN) = 2.29; SFLu/Ce(L-C4mimTf2N) = 110.38. The use of the L-C4mimTf2N mixture in the processes of lanthanide separation into subgroups is much more efficient than the use of L without the addition of ILs or the use of the L-MTOAN mixture. The ion-selective properties of L towards Ln3+ ions were studied. Podand L exhibits potentiometric selectivity to Lu3+ ions.

Abstract
Although cyclam-based ligands are among the strongest copper(II) chelators available, they also usually present good affinity for other divalent cations [Zn(II), Ni(II), and Co(II)], with no copper(II)-specific cyclam ligands having been described so far. As such a property is highly desirable in a wide range of applications, we present herein two novel phosphine oxide-appended cyclam ligands that could be efficiently synthesized through Kabachnik-Fields type reactions on protected cyclam precursors. Their copper(II) coordination properties were closely studied by different physicochemical techniques [electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopies, X-ray diffraction, and potentiometry]. The mono(diphenylphosphine oxide)-functionalized ligand demonstrated a copper(II)-specific behavior, unprecedented within the cyclam family of ligands. This was evidenced by UV-vis complexation and competition studies with the parent divalent cations. Density functional theory calculations also confirmed that the particular ligand geometry in the complexes strongly favors copper(II) coordination over that of competing divalent cations, rationalizing the specificity observed experimentally.

Abstract
Within the scope of this study, p(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-tetraacrylic cyclen) (p(HEMA-co-TACYC)) hydrogels were synthesized for the first time in the literature using a tetraacrylic cyclen (TACYC) as both functional monomer and crosslinker. The hydrogels designed especially for Cu2+ ions showed colorimetric sensor behavior selective for Cu2+ ions in all aqueous media (deionized, tap, river and sea water) and in metal ion mixtures. The p(HEMA-co-TACYC) hydrogels forming a stable complex with Cu2+ ions simultaneously showed properties of being a good adsorbent material. The hydrogels have reuse capacity as both sensor and adsorbent material. Changing the amount of TACYC in the hydrogel structure changes the maximum adsorption capacity for Cu2+ ions. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption constants for Cu2+ ion adsorption of the hydrogels, acting as selective adsorbent in all aqueous media and metal ion mixtures, were determined.
