Abstract
In this study, a series of benzimidazolium salts were synthesized as asymmetric N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors. Nine novel palladium complexes with the general formula [PdX2(NHC)(pyridine)] were synthesized using benzimidazolium salts in the PEPPSI (Pyridine Enhanced Precatalyst Preparation, Stabilization and Initiation) theme. All synthesized Pd(ii) complexes are stable. The synthesized compounds were thoroughly characterized by respective spectroscopic techniques, such as 1HNMR, 13C NMR, FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography and elemental analysis. The geometric structure of the palladium N-heterocyclic carbene has been optimized in the framework of density functional theory (DFT) using the B3LYP-D3 dispersion functional with LANL2DZ as a basis set. The on/off mechanism of pyridine assisted Pd-NHC complexes made them the best C-H functionalized catalysts for regioselective C-5 arylated products. Five membered heterocyclic compounds such as 2-acetyl furan, furfuryl acetate 2-acetylthiophene and N-methylpyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde were treated with numerous aryl bromides and arylchlorides under optimal catalytic reaction conditions. Interestingly, all the prepared catalysts possessed essential structural features that facilitated the formation of desired coupling products in quantitative yield with excellent selectivity. The arylation reaction of bromoacetophenone was highly catalytically active with only 1 mol% catalyst loading at 150 °C for 2 hours. To check the efficiency of the synthesized complexes, three different five member heterocyclic substrates (2-acetylfuran, 2-acetylthiophen, 2-propylthaizole) were tested with a number of aryl bromides bearing both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups on para position. The data in Tables 2-4. Indicated that electron-donating groups on the para position of aryl halide decreased the catalytic conversion while electron-withdrawing groups increased the catalytic conversion this was due to the high nucleophilicity of the electron-donating substituents.

Abstract
A series of six new, bidentate ligands based on N-(2-(R-sulfonamido)benzyl)R-sulfonamide have been isolated as dianionic or monoanionic chelators via condensation of 2-(aminomethyl)aniline with sulfonyl chloride reagents; R=methyl (1 and 1′), tolyl (2 and 2′), 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl (3), or 2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl (4). Complexes of ligands 2–4 reacted at room temperature with palladium(ii) acetate in the presence of various monodentate N-donor co-ligands to form complexes Pd2(2dmap), Pd2′(OAc.py), Pd3(2acn), Pd3(2py), Pd4(2acn), and Pd4(2py), which were structurally confirmed by three X-ray crystal analyses. Results of catalysis studies in water showed high turnover frequencies and yields of up to 98% within 10min and at 0.2 mol-% palladium catalyst loading. Relative to ligand-free catalysis in the presence of only Pd(OAc)2, the ligand-supported palladium species clearly possess positive catalytic advantage. Furthermore, Suzuki coupling efficiencies by 1:1 ‘Pd(OAc)2+ligand’ yielded notably better outcomes than for the 1:2 ‘Pd(OAc)2+ligand’ insitu catalyst generation, which reveals that coordinative saturation is undesirable. The size of the complementing monodentate co-ligand was observed to influence the catalytic efficiency such that bulkier co-ligands consistently yielded improved turnover frequency values, which leads to the conclusion that steric repulsion between the synthesised ligands and the bulkier co-ligands aided the generation of vacant coordination sites for the more active complexes. Moderate Heck coupling activity was recorded for the complexes and better activities appear to correlate with moderate bulkiness of ligand 3.

Abstract
N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors (2a–i), their pyridine-enhanced precatalyst preparation stabilization and initiation (PEPPSI)-themed palladium N-heterocyclic carbene complexes (3a–i) and palladium N-heterocyclic triphenylphosphines complexes (4a–i) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR, and LC–MS spectroscopic techniques. The (NHC)Pd(II) complexes 3–4 were tested against MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 cancer cells, Escherichia coli, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Candida albicans microorganisms, Leishmania major promastigotes and amastigotes, Toxoplasma gondii parasites, and Vero cells in vitro. The biological assays indicated that all compounds are highly active against cancer cells, with an IC50 < 1.5 µg mL−1. Eight compounds proved antibacterial and antileishmanial activities, while only three compounds had strong antifungal activities against C. albicans. In our conclusion, compounds 3 (b, f, g, and h) and 4b are the most suitable drug candidates for anticancer, antimicrobial, and antiparasitical.

One-Pot Aqueous and Template-Free Synthesis of Mesoporous Polymeric Resins. Catalysts 2019. Abstract
This work explores the novel one-pot aqueous phase synthesis of mesoporous phenolic-hyperbranched polyethyleneimine resins without the use of a template, and their utility as heterogeneous catalysts in batch reactors and continuous microreactors. Catalyst surface areas of up to 432 m2/g were achieved with a uniform Pd distribution and an interconnected, highly porous, network structure, confirmed through Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area measurements, scanning electron microscopes (SEM), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The heterogeneous catalysts achieved a maximum 98.98 ± 1% conversion in batch Suzuki couplings, with conversions being dependent upon reaction conditions, reactant chemistries, Pd loading and catalyst surface area. The catalysts were shown to be recyclable with only a marginal loss in conversion achieved after five runs. Up to 62 ± 5% and 46.5 ± 8% conversions at 0.2 mL/s and 0.4 mL/s flow rates, respectively, were achieved in a continuous microreactor. Understanding the mechanism of action of this mesoporous resin is a future research area, which could help expand the application vistas for this catalyst platform.

Efficient in situ N-heterocyclic carbene palladium(ii) generated from Pd(OAc) 2 catalysts for carbonylative Suzuki coupling reactions of arylboronic acids with 2-bromopyridine under inert conditions leading to unsymmetrical arylpyridine ketones: synthesis, characterization and cytotoxic activities. RSC Adv 2018; 8:40000-40015. Abstract
N,N-Substituted benzimidazole salts were successfully synthesized and characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C {1H} NMR and IR techniques, which support the proposed structures. Catalysts generated in situ were efficiently used for the carbonylative cross-coupling reaction of 2 bromopyridine with various boronic acids. The reaction was carried out in THF at 110 °C in the presence of K2CO3 under inert conditions and yields unsymmetrical arylpyridine ketones. All N,N-substituted benzimidazole salts 2a-i and 4a-i studied in this work were screened for their cytotoxic activities against human cancer cell lines such us MDA-MB-231, MCF-7 and T47D. The N,N-substituted benzimidazoles 2e and 2f exhibited the most cytotoxic effect with promising cytotoxic activity with IC50 values of 4.45 μg mL-1 against MDA-MB-231 and 4.85 μg mL-1 against MCF7 respectively.
