Study of four new Cd(II) metal-organic frameworks: Syntheses, structures, and highly selective sensing for 4-nitrophenol

Cr(VI) and doxorubicin adsorptive capture by a novel bionanocomposite of Ti-MOF@TiO2 incorporated with watermelon biochar and chitosan hydrogel

Biodegradable polymers, biochars and metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have manifested as top prospects for elimination of harmful pollutants. In the current study, Ti-MOF was synthesized and decorated with TiO2 nanoparticles, then embedded into watermelon peel biochar and functionalized with chitosan hydrogel to produce Ti-MOF@TiO2@WMPB@CTH. Various instruments were employed to assure the effective production of the bionanocomposite. The HR-TEM and SEM studies referred to excellent surface porosity and homogeneity of Ti-MOF@TiO2@WMPB@CTH bionanocomposite, with 51.02-74.23 nm. Based on the BET analysis, the mesoporous structure has a significant surface area of 366.04 m2 g-1 and a considerable total pore volume of 11.38 × 10-2 cm3 g-1, with a mean pore size of 12.434 nm. Removal of doxorubicin (DOX) and hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) was examined under various experimentations. Pseudo-second order kinetic models in addition to Langmuir isotherm offered the best fitting. Thermodynamic experiments of the two contaminants demonstrated spontaneous and endothermic interactions. After five subsequent adsorption and desorption cycles, Ti-MOF@TiO2@WMPB@CTH bionanocomposite demonstrated an exceptional recyclability for the elimination of DOX and Cr(VI) ions, reaching 97.96 % and 95.28 %, respectively. Finally, the newly designed Ti-MOF@TiO2@WMPB@CTH bionanocomposite demonstrated a high removing efficiency of Cr(VI) ions and DOX from samples of real water.

A new two-dimensional cadmium(II) coordination polymer based on Cd6(CHADC)6 clusters (H2CHADC is cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid): synthesis, structure and properties

The highly effective recognition and detection of metal ions and anions in water has attracted much attention with respect to environmental safety. Herein, a novel Cd-based coordination polymer, poly[[4,4'-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)biphenyl]bis(cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylato)dicadmium(II)], [Cd₂(C₈H₁₀O₄)₂(C₂₀H₁₈N₄)]_n or [Cd(CHADC)(4,4'-BMIBP)_0.5]_n, (I), has been synthesized employing cis-cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid (H₂CHADC) and 4,4'-bis(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)biphenyl (4,4'-BMIBP). Single-crystal X-ray analysis reveals that (I) presents a 6-connected hxl two-dimensional layer based on Cd₆(CHADC)₆ clusters with the point symbol (3⁶·4⁶·5³). Furthermore, (I) has been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and fluorescence spectroscopy, and exhibits good stability and excellent photoluminescence properties. Coordination polymer (I) was chosen as a fluorescent probe to sense different target analytes and shows an obvious selective recognition response to Fe³⁺ cations and Cr₂O₇^2-/CrO₄^2- anions through luminescence-quenching effects in aqueous solution. The sensing mechanism was investigated and showed that the detection mechanism was resonance energy transfer between (I) and the Fe³⁺, Cr₂O₇^2- and CrO₄^2- ions.

Extrapolation of hydroxytyrosol and its analogues as potential anti-inflammatory agents

Discovery of potential lead molecule is a challenging, and complex process which require lots of money, patience, and manpower. Human beings are using natural products, predominantly secondary metabolites, for this purpose since ancient time and they are still working on them as a potent source for drug discovery due to their wide structural diversity. Phenolic phytochemicals such as hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol are natural antioxidant and involved in many biological disease cure. Herein, we have carried out the quantum chemical calculations for conformational analysis, geometry optimization and computation of electronic as well as optical properties of hydroxytyrosol and its analogues (1a-1k) in terms of density functional theory by using Gaussian 09 program suite. The eventual charge transfer within the molecules has been confirmed by the analysis of frontier molecular orbitals. The molecular docking studies of 1a-1k with cyclooxygenase-2 showed the noticeable binding affinity as compared to other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs viz. aspirin, naproxen and celecoxib. Computation of pharmacokinetics and pharmacological properties confirmed the lead/drug like potential of these screened molecules. Furthermore, the molecular dynamics simulation of best three docked ligands (1f, 1h and 1k)-receptor complex and their binding free energy calculations reveals that these molecules bind in the catalytic cavity of cyclooxygenase-2 and found stable during the 100 ns of simulation.
