Abstract
Fossil fuels are the main sources of human energy, but their combustion releases toxic compounds of sulfur oxide. In the oil industry, using the optimal methods to eliminate sulfur compounds from fossil fuels is a very important issue. In this study, the performance of montmorillonite/graphitic carbon nitride (a new hybrid nanostructure) in increasing the biodesulfurization activity of Rhodococcus erythropolis IGTS8 was investigated. X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were used for the characterization of the nanoparticles. The effective factors in this process were determined. Optimum conditions for microorganisms were designed using the Design Expert software. Experiments were performed in a flask. The results indicated that the biodesulfurization activity of a microorganism in the presence of the nanostructure increases by 52%. In addition, in the presence of the nanostructure, the effective factors are: 1. concentration of the nanostructure; 2. concentration of sulfur; 3. cell concentration. In the absence of the nanostructure, the only effective factor is the concentration of sulfur. Through analysis of variance, the proposed models were presented to determine the concentration of the 2-hydroxy biphenyl produced by the microorganisms (biodesulfurization activity) in the presence and absence of the nanostructure. The proposed models were highly acceptable and consistent with experimental data. The results of a Gibbs assay showed that the biodesulfurization efficiency of in the presence of the nanostructure was increased by about 52%, which is a very satisfactory result. The biodesulfurization activity of decorated cells in a bioreactor showed a significant increase compared with nondecorated cells. Almost a two-fold improvement in biodesulfurization activity was obtained for decorated cells compared with free cells.

Abstract
The biodesulfurization activity of bacteria through the 4S pathway in aqueous-oil emulsions is affected by various operational factors. These factors also demonstrate interacting effects that influence the potential for field applications of biodesulfurization technology and can solely be deciphered through multi-variable experiments. In this study, the effects of the influential factors and their interactions on the desulfurizing activity of a newly identified desulfurizing bacterium, Rhodococcus sp, FUM94 were quantitatively investigated. The capacity improvement achieved through optimized values obtained in this study is significant due to its simple implementation to large scale processes. This is the most simple and the most cost-effective way to scale-up a biodesulfurization process.Using response surface methodology (RSM). Optimum values of the factors were identified with the objective of maximizing biodesulfurization activity. Results revealed that the desulfurization activity of the biocatalyst increased from 0.323 ± 0.072 to 46.57 ± 4.556 mmol 2-Hydroxybiphenyl (kg dry cell weight)-1 h-1 at the optimized conditions of 6 h reaction time, 2 g.L-1 biocatalyst concentration, 0.54 mM (100 ppm) dibenzothiophene (DBT) concentration (sulfur source), and 25% oil phase fraction. Desirability analysis proved that the selected conditions are the most desirable combination of factors (desirability value = 0.896) to achieve the highest biodesulfurization activity of the biocatalyst. A comparison between the biodesulfurization capacity achieved in this study and the capacities reported in similar studies published in the past two decades revealed that biodesulfurization under optimized operational conditions outperforms previously proposed techniques.

Abstract
The wide use of fossil fuels and their associated environmental concerns, highlighted the importance of affordable and clean energy (goal 7), as adopted by the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations for 2030. For years now, the detection of sulfur components in liquid fuels is performed mainly for environmental and health purposes in compliance with the respective legislations. Towards this, the aerobic and anaerobic biodesulfurization (BDS) process, which entails the use of microorganisms to limit the sulfur concentration is followed. To ensure effective BDS, several traditional analytical methods are utilized, although they require bench-top, bulky, costly, and time-consuming instruments along with skilled personnel. The currently employed analytical methods are mostly chromatographic techniques (e.g. liquid and gas) coupled with various detectors. To start with, high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detector (HPLC-UV), as well as electrospray ionization-LC-mass spectrometry (ESI-LC-MS) were mostly reported. Additionally, many detectors were coupled to gas chromatography (CG) including atomic emission detector (GC-AED), flame ionization detector (GC-FID), flame photometric detector (GC-FPD), sulfur fluorescence detector (GC-SFD), mass selective detector (GC-MS), etc. The solid-phase microextraction (SPME) technique provides extra capabilities when added to the separation techniques. Towards the continuous interest in oil supercomplex synthesis, other atmospheric and surface desorption ionization techniques, as well as the multidimensional 2D chromatographic systems (GC × GC and LC × LC) were also investigated, due to their unsurpassed resolution power. The current review ends with final remarks per applied methodology and the necessity to respect and protect the human environment and life.

Abstract
The sulfur contents of fossil fuels have negative impacts on the environment and human health. The bio-catalytic desulfurization strategies and the biological refinement of fossil fuels are a cost-effective process compared to classical chemistry desulfurization. Rhodococcus erythropolis IGTS8 is able to metabolize the organic sulfur compound by the unique genes cluster (i.e. DszA, B, C and D genes) in the 4S metabolic pathway. The dszD gene codes a key enzyme for sulfur reduction in the gene cluster. In this study, the structure of the DszD enzyme was predicted and then the key residues toward FMN binding were identified which were Thr62, Ser63, Asn77, and Ala79. To investigate the effect of manipulation in key residues on the enzymatic activity of the DszD, different mutations were performed on key residues. The molecular docking simulation showed that A79I and A79N mutants have the lowest binding free energies compared to the wild-type enzyme in binding with FMN substrate. A 50 ns molecular dynamics (MD) simulation performed using GROMACS software. The RMSD and RMSF analysis showed that two mutants are more stable than the wild-type enzyme during MD simulation. The binding free energies between FMN substrate and complexes were calculated and analyzed by the Molecular Mechanics/Poisson-Boltzmann Surface Area (MM-PBSA) method. The experimental results showed that the enzyme activity for the oxidoreductase process toward biodesulfurization increased 1.9 and 2.3 fold for A79I and A79N mutants, respectively.

Abstract
Chemical interactions between metal particles (Ag or Ni) dispersed in a low-cost MCM-41M produced from beach sand amorphous silica and sulfur compounds were evaluated in the deep adsorptive desulfurization process of real diesel fuel. N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and scanning transmission electron microscopy coupled to energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (STEM-EDX) were used for characterizing the adsorbents. HRTEM and XPS confirmed the high dispersion of Ag nanoparticles on the MCM-41 surface, and its chemical interaction with support and sulfur compounds by diverse mechanisms such as π-complexation and oxidation. Thermodynamic tests indicated that the adsorption of sulfur compounds over Ag(I)/MCM-41M is an endothermic process under the studied conditions. The magnitude of ΔH° (42.1 kJ/mol) indicates that chemisorptive mechanisms govern the sulfur removal. The best fit of kinetic and equilibrium data to pseudo-second order (R2 > 0.99) and Langmuir models (R2 > 0.98), respectively, along with the results for intraparticle diffusion and Boyd’s film-diffusion kinetic models, suggest that the chemisorptive interaction between organosulfur compounds and Ag nanosites controls sulfur adsorption, as seen in the XPS results. Its adsorption capacity (qm = 31.25 mgS/g) was 10 times higher than that obtained for pure MCM-41M and double the qm for the Ag(I)/MCM-41C adsorbent from commercial silica. Saturated adsorbents presented a satisfactory regeneration rate after a total of five sulfur adsorption cycles.

Abstract
In the current study, hydroxyapatite (HA)-MgO scaffolds are fabricated with the aid of the space holder technique using NaCl as the spacer type. After that, the fabricated samples are deposited in gelatin (GN) with ibuprofen (IBO) substitution to create GN-IBO thin surface coating. The samples are then synthesized chemically and the associated properties are studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scan electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with the energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The compressive strength, fracture toughness, hardness, porosity, bioactivity, degradation rate, wettability, and roughness of the manufactured HA-MgO bio-nanocomposite scaffolds containing different weight fractions of MgO nanoparticles are predicted. Accordingly, nonlinear mechanical behaviors including nonlinear free vibration and nonlinear vibrations associated with the prebuckling and postbuckling domains of an axially loaded plate-type bone implant made of the HA-MgO bio-nanocomposites coated with the GN-IBO thin layers are investigated analytically via a sandwich plate model. The obtained results reveal that magnesium has no considerable effect on the porosity, however it causes to enhance the compressive strength significantly. The presence of magnesium ions also leads to reduce the crystallinity of HA about 30-100 nm due to entering MgO nanoparticles into the network. The results related to the sample with 10 wt% MgO nanoparticles indicate that the microscopic structure of the fabricated bio-nanocomposite scaffold is three-dimensional with porous architecture. Also, it is shown that the solubility of the HA composed with MgO nanoparticles decreases with higher bioactivity.
