Abstract
Recently, the use of plant-origin materials has become especially important due to the aggravation of environmental problems and the shortage and high cost of synthetic materials. One of the potential candidates among natural organic compounds is polysaccharides, characterized by a number of advantages over synthetic polymers. In recent years, natural polysaccharides have been used to design composite catalysts for various organic syntheses. This review is devoted to the current state of application of polysaccharides (chitosan, starch, pectin, cellulose, and hydroxyethylcellulose) and composites based on their catalysis. The article is divided into four main sections based on the type of polysaccharide: (1) chitosan-based nanocomposites; (2) pectin-based nanocomposites; (3) cellulose (hydroxyethylcellulose)-based nanocomposites; and (4) starch-based nanocomposites. Each section describes and summarizes recent studies on the preparation and application of polysaccharide-containing composites in various chemical transformations. It is shown that by modifying polysaccharides, polymers with special properties can be obtained, thus expanding the range of biocomposites for catalytic applications.

Abstract
In this report, surfactant free solid solution of NiZn with a hierarchical architecture was synthesized via a one-pot colloidal approach. Evidence supporting hierarchical crystal growth and alloying of metals at the atomic level was obtained from field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray data. Lattice sites of face-centered metallic Ni were found to be occupied by Zn as evident from powder X-ray diffraction where a gradual shift in the peak position and increase in the average lattice parameter upon reduction of the Ni content in the alloy samples can be observed. This well-alloyed, magnetically separable, non-noble metal-based solid solution has the potential to replace the palladium-based catalyst in the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of aryl halides (-Cl/-Br) and phenylboronic acid. The nanostructured catalyst was formed through the assembly of a triangular spiked and sheet-like structure and is magnetically well separable that is stable enough under the catalytic reaction condition. The developed heterogeneous catalyst and the designed economical catalytic model are the first ever reported work. The catalytic results outperformed most of the reported state-of-the-art works involving the transition metal-based catalyst.

Abstract
Heterogeneous catalysts comprising noble metals and magnetic materials allow a straightforward separation from a reaction using an external magnet and are recovered easily. In this study, we synthesized magnetic Fe3O4-Pdn hybrid heterogeneous catalysts via a rapid one-pot aqueous-phase method. The synthesized Fe3O4-Pd NPs dispersed well with small size (∼50 nm), maintaining high magnetic responsiveness, and showed high reactivity and reusability for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction between aryl halides and phenylboronic acid. The synthesized Fe3O4-Pd50 catalyst could be recycled at least ten times with no significant loss of catalytic activity by external magnet separation.

Abstract
A rapid, one-pot synthesis of eight benzo[a]furo[2,3-c]phenazine derivatives has been achieved in moderate to good yields in good yields via a multi-component of 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione, arylglyoxal, indole (H, CH3) in the presence of H3PW12O40@Fe3O4-ZnO magnetic core-shell nanoparticles (MCNPs) under solvent-free conditions using microwave irradiation. The catalyst was synthesised and characterised by X-ray diffraction, EDX, TEM, FESEM, TGA, VSM and atomic force microscope. As an application for the synthesised nanocatalyst, degradation of methylene blue as heavy-mass organic pollution was measured. These results showed advantages for synthesis, such as mild reaction conditions, low energy consumption and economically affordable.

Abstract
To conveniently and effectively cure heart valve diseases or defects, combined with transcatheter valve technology, bioprosthetic heart valves (BHVs) originated from the decellularized porcine pericardium (D-PP) have been broadly used in clinics. Unfortunately, most clinically available BHVs crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (GA) were challenged in their long-term tolerance, degenerative structural changes, and even failure, owing to the synergistic impact of multitudinous elements (cytotoxicity, calcification, immune responses, etc.). In this work, dialdehyde pectin (AP) was prepared by oxidizing the o-dihydroxy of pectin with sodium periodate. Hereafter, the AP-fixed PP model was obtained by crosslinking D-PP with AP with high aldehyde content (6.85 mmol g-1), for acquiring excellent mechanical properties and outstanding biocompatibility. To further improve the hemocompatibility of the AP-fixed PP, a natural and specific inhibitor of thrombin (hirudin) was introduced to achieve surface modification of the AP-fixed PP. The feasibility of crosslinking and functionalizing AP-fixed PP, which was a potential leaflet material of BHVs, was exhaustively and systematically evaluated. In vitro studies found that hirudin-loaded and AP-fixed PP (AP + Hirudin-PP) had synchronously achieved effective fixation of collagen, highly effective anticoagulation, and good HUVECs-cytocompatibility. In vivo results revealed that the AP + Hirudin-PP specimens recruited the minimum immune cells in the implantation experiment, and also presented an excellent anti-calcification effect. Overall, AP + Hirudin-PP was endowed with competitive collagen stability (compared with GA-fixed PP), excellent hemocompatibility, good HUVECs-cytocompatibility, low immunogenicity and outstanding anti-calcification, suggesting that AP + Hirudin-PP might be a promising alternative to GA-fixed PP and exhibited a bright prospect in the clinical applications of BHVs.

Abstract
In this study, an eco-friendly and low cost magnetic nanocomposite consisting of chitosan/δ-FeOOH microspheres (CS/δ-FeOOH) was fabricated as a stabilizer by using a simple method. Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) were decorated on the designed CS/δ-FeOOH, and the resulting Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres were employed as a heterogeneous catalyst in the construction of biaryl and benzonitriles. Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres efficiently catalyzed the conversion of aryl iodides and bromides to the desired biaryls within 3 h. Moreover, Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres showed high catalytic potential against synthesis of benzonitriles by providing yields up to of 99% within 4 h. More importantly, it was proved that Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres were able to be easily recycled and reused up to eight runs for both reactions. This study reveals that Pd NPs@CS/δ-FeOOH microspheres are useful and recyclable nanocatalysts, which catalyze the synthesis of biaryl and benzonitriles with good reaction yields.

Abstract
A new family of sterically hindered alkyl(tri-tert-butyl) phosphonium salts (n-CnH2n+1 with n = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20) was synthesized and evaluated as stabilizers for the formation of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs), and the prepared PdNPs, stabilized by a series of phosphonium salts, were applied as catalysts of the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. All investigated phosphonium salts were found to be excellent stabilizers of metal nanoparticles of small catalytically active size with a narrow size distribution. In addition, palladium nanoparticles exhibited exceptional stability: the presence of phosphonium salts prevented agglomeration and precipitation during the catalytic reaction.
